IDK who did this but the black actress whose playing Ariel uploaded this fan art to her twitter. It is really funny that people were complaining that the actress playing Jasmine was light skinned and half Indian but these same people will defend black Ariel:

I love Stone Ocean to piece and Jolyne is my all time favorite Jojo. Unfortunately, Tumblr likes to bastardize everything about Jojo, especially parts 3-6. I've decided my first post on this site would be some recent eye gougers I found:

tbh that fanart looks good... Until i saw the body. It was very weird proportions.
Also, it shouldn't surprise you that they behave like this. I remember some time ago that in a movie they casted a gay actor to play as a gay man and these suckers complained that he wasn't "gay enough" for the role. If it's casting a black person as a canonically white person, they will laude it as the second coming of Jesus, but when it's about a black/brown person playing a canonically black/brown person they will nitpick at everything and flip their shit.

The second one is particularly fucked up due to the face structure. Are these supposed to be women? Because the last two look more masculine than a full bearded lumberjack.

The art’s actually good, but it’s a bit spiked by the fact that you mentioned that the people who made it likely got pissy when an Arab wasn't played by an Arab. I say if they can pull the role off and don’t stick out like a sore thumb (i.e. using a black guy to play a Japanese character and still saying they’re ethnically Japanese or something) I see no issue with it. It’s a new interpretation of the story, not a part for part remake. Things can change, especially since Disney have all these stories happy endings they didn’t have originally.

The lead actor (Mena Moussad) and director stated that they weren't trying to be "cultural/nationality specific" when they made Aladdin. The 1992 version even had some "inspiration" from the Taj Mahal.

Both Jasmine and Ariel take place in fictional kingdoms with no exact specific location given and draw inspiration from a mishmash of various different countries. But the "ethnically/racially wrong" argument seems to only held as "valid" (to a degree) for Jasmine but not for Ariel. I really don't care in the end. I'll probably stream it online for free to see if its as bad as I assume it will be but the reactions to this casting are very telling imo.
 
I apologize if I'm posting too much too quick, the combined with my experience in the Jojo, Steven Universe, Homestuck and Yokai Watch fandoms, I have a lot of crap to unpack.

Wait, Yokai Watch? All the important characters are just little monsters. I'm morbidly curious to see how tumblr artists could fuck up something so simple. Unless there's someone out there drawing fat trans Nate in a hijab, lol.
