*little off-topic but linked to tumblr view on "magical girls"*
The whole point of making a magical girl is that they're costumes are supposed to be outlandish and frilly. It's a staple of the genre that honestly makes it stand out from a typical superheroe show.
Only Japanese ones. Western shows considered magical girls rarely have frilly outfits, Lolirock is the only one I can think of that fits it.
Tbh, being a fan of girly stuff and all, I think idea of "magical girl" genre is becoming... well, too wide. Every media with female protagonist and magic/sci-fi stuff can be considered one. Or every media/doll line aimed for girls. And tumblr loves to label everything as magical girls - lately web cartoon Emara-Emirates Hero that is clearly more of classic superhero show (no magic, no transformation, protagonist in 19-20). You know, in the west having female hero is now "trendy" and often this have nothing to do with that japanese "genre".
Here is list of lists of all things tumblr people consider Magical Girls:

Freakin' Cybersix is here.
And I get Steven Universe is visually inspired by shoujo shows (not really magical girls only, just shojo), but... there is literally no teenage girl that use magic in this show (Steven i a boy and gems are adults).
And they love to label Utena as magical girl, because one of Sailor Moon directors worked on this show, but... it's not.

Tumblr also loves to use that "genre" (mostly aimed for little girls and teenagers that made it uncomfortable) as their political tube. Because they think it's about wearing pink and smashing patriarhy (so ~subversive~), while in most of those shows they use not-very-violent magic and empathy to defeat or heal enemies.

Because service dogs ~ttly existed~ in fairy tale times, Mother Gothel would TTLY allow Rapunzel to physically and emotionally relay on ANYONE but Gothel herself and Tiana would TTLY be able to work herself ragged like she does in canon if she was as ~severely autistic~ as you "imagined" her, Janice.

The art style isn't terrible and I can get trying to raise awareness about service dogs, but it's best to make sure it's at least a little believable and all.

I actually really like the art for this, but yeah the disney princess + service dog combination seems a bit random.

I got into MHA in July...
Most recent redesigns make the athletic superheroes large asf and randomly black.

Also, most descriptions and tags on redesigns say "Horikoshi is a coward" and most people say anti-Horikoshi...over outfits.

Yeesh.

tumblr_pbxmb3wRzE1wtx952o3_250.png

Also, these people make black edits and redesigns for Camie...cause "oversexualized and racism"...
Because making the lit meme loving slang girl with the titties and curves and ass black is totally a better solution than "coward Horikoshi" and not stereotyping

Also...why do these people think that Japan is filled with black communities? They say that "there's dark skinned Japanese and we're just adding them in!!!!"...but then they change the hair to have black kinky hair textures too. And most people who do this are white teens. Lovely.

raising awarness for service dogs is a pretty great thing, but i dont get why so many people use disney princesses to raise awarness for ANYTHING

its always disney princesses

is it cause theyre so well known and generic at this point?

honestly tho if this was directed at kids (which i doubt it because of the language, but possible) this would be pretty good

I think those shows such as Winx Club and Lolirock could be considered magical girl-inspired as there is still a pretty big market for Japanese animation in Europe. Now I don't think everything with a girl and some wand is a magical girl show, but I do think having some similarities to those shows can be a sign of the creators being inspired from them. I wouldn't say that it's too wide considering that with anime the lines are constantly being blurred. Many differing anime style (though still distinct) are anime, but they aren't any less just because they don't have the standard look.

What I'm trying to say is not every magical girl show needs the staples of the genre (Madoka Magica only really has the cute outfits for the show really. The rest is more of a deconstruction.) but some of those staples can be applied to other genres so I'm not entirely upset on why tumblr or other sites would compare them. It's just easier to do.

That being said, I really dislike how people on Tumblr (and elsewhere) are hypocritical with these types of shows. Having frills and wearing pink is bad apparently in any other genre as a woman, but when a character is a magical girl suddenly it's okay? All that talk about pink and big puffy outfits being "sexist" just goes out the window. And many times magical girls use kindness/empathy as a form of healing/defeating enemies as part of theme, but then these people go and bastardize them by making Sailor Moon crush the patriarchy or a really sweet romance becomes a lesbian orgy. Because apparently if two girls are close to one another they HAVE to be gay.

To be fair, people will ship characters no matter what. It's just a problem when they treat it like LGBT representation or a political statement and not just shipping. One of the other sexist aspects common in these shows is downplaying intimacy between girls by treating it as if it's just a stepping stone to having relationships with men and/or being yuri fuel for male fans to masturbate to anyways.

To my knowledge (don't quote me on this), that's sort of the traditional attitude toward relationships between young girls; it was a normal development as well as preparation for the role of wife and mother later in life. I would say that gay men have been exceedingly more hated and reviled throughout history than is the case for women.

No, you're actually right on that. It's just more acceptable in modern (it really depends which part of the world you are in) for girls to have closer friendships. In these fandoms I feel that it's more acceptable to turn girls with close friendships gay because it's more seen as a taboo thing so by doing the opposite in these people's minds it's not as bad.

Not that gay men don't get shit, but I feel that girls having a close relationship is more accepted than guys having a bromance. And when sexuality gets involved it gets even worse for both parties. Especially for men considering they're more socialized to be more emotionally restrictive.

That's what really gets to me with these "SJW arts" and their fetishes though. I understand what @Tigerwatch mentions about shipping always being a thing. But when it starts to affect real life people like the Supernatural lead actors and Edsworld that's taking it too far. It comes to a point in which they aren't doing for fun or "representation", it's because they see the characters are something they OWN and that they can do whatever they want with them even if they're real life people.

Zuko is 4 years older than Aang...
So this can be a 16 year old kissing a 12 year old
or, at worst, an 18 year old kissing a 14 year old (:_(

i feel like 16/12 is a tad worse

large age gaps in characters that are both underage is only pedo when its straight

I feel like the people who ship real people is a whole different thing. People love to ship YouTubers and draw porn of them and give them trans headcanons (no joke) even though they're real people. Worst is the true crime community that does the same shit with serial killers and school shooters and whatnot. I'll get to posting art of Ted Bundy as a cute anime guy.

Here's the blog QueerTCC which is exactly what you think it is. They act as if every criticism of them wanting Richard Ramirez to fuck their boypussy is transphobia and not about them wanting to fuck a serial killer. I know we have a thread on the TCC but here's a little taste of these maniacs.
