i feel like these people on the other hand, they wanna act like gender exists on its own as just an assortment of cute names and aesthetics, and has no affect on a person whatsoever

Side note, they didn't "make Thor a chick"- Thor and Lady Thor are two seperate people. Lady Thor was a human woman named Jane who was granted the powers of an Asgardian goddess, and also one of Thor's love interests. When Thor's abilities waned, his hammer temporarily chose a new person to wield it. He bestowed his title on Jane after that.

As One Man Bland pointed out, it all comes down to sales. Which experimental ideas they keep is determined by book and merchandise sales.

A good chunk of the dislike I would say came down to the execution of Lady Thor leaving a bad taste in everyone's mouths, since her initial introduction kind of took a big fat shit on the established canon of Thor and Asgard.

Odin was turned into a raging misogynistic lunatic who has it out for Lady Thor because "ewww girl cooties" when in previous instances of someone other than Thor being able to lift the hammer he simply would've commissioned a custom hammer tailored to that person. There's constant pushes to tell the reader that Lady Thor is so much better at being a Thor than the actual person named Thor - with Thor losing his arm in a rather blatant metaphor for castration, and Thor's own mother calling said arm loss a necessary evil because "girl power." All while heavily implying that the whole reason Lady Thor is more worthy of the hammer is because only she knows what "true" sacrifice is (even though Thor lost his arm trying to protect the Earth and risked his life multiple times before) by bravely turning down a cure for her cancer because she doesn't want to use magic to fix her problems... while still using the magic of the hammer to keep herself alive. Plus constantly trying to push her name as being "Thor" even after it was obvious no one was ever going to call her that got on everyone's nerves, as did the straw man pages with Absorbing Man and Titania that have been passed around the Internet ad naseum.

That and the writer is a total cuck who pulls a 2017 Ghostbusters and cries misogyny whenever someone brings up any of this to him. So that didn't exactly do anything to endear her to anyone.

In canon, his female counterpart (Jyushiko) is a gyaru (think "valley girl", but more provocative), which makes sense because they're both energetic:

At first I was thinking that it's probably the only way Tumblrinas know how visually indicate that someone is trans/gay without drawing them as a stereotype. However, I've seen Tumblr give characters flag/pronoun tee shirts in addition to making them stereotypes, so that might not be the case. Maybe they're just being unfashionable and creatively bankrupt, as usual.

I once sold movie tickets to a gay couple and one of them was wearing a bear pride shirt. Then again, the bear pride flag is a lot less obscure than the gay pride rainbow flag.

Some people do it, but it's pretty rare.
