To be fair Lady Thor's death was teased since the beginning on accounts of her being riddled with cancer that she stupidly refused a magic cure from Thor for under the guise of that being "noble" and a flash-forward sequence where Thor has his hammer again and hints she's dead, so it's not that surprising that they're finally pulling the trigger on that - especially when a new Thor movie recently came out. Probably more a sign that her novelty has worn off and Marvel's decided the sales no longer make up for the cost of the book.

I'm looking forward to the inevitabile REEEEEing and accusations of fridging from The Mary Sue and SJWs that don't read the comics if/when it happens though.

Every single time. The people who obsess over how genderbends literally do something worse than trans people, and that is invalidate all the tumblr trender kids, always latch on to anime characters. But if you look over at Japanese artists they love drawing their anime characters as pretty people of the opposite gender.
 
Yes, the odd proportions, the trans headcanons, the brownwashing of Japanese characters, the added 120lb and the acne/vitiligo/too much body hair/whatever are bad, but you know what's even worse?
The hilariously ugly clothes. With the badly inserted textures/images found on google. Jesus.

I can not for the life of me figure out which doctors they're supposed to be. I think the far left one is the 2nd doctor.

I think they're meant to be from left to right; Adric, Nyssa, The Fifth Doctor, and Tegan. They were going for a Classic TARDIS team, and personally I don't think being a snowflake could possibly make Adric any more insufferable.

I never really understood why people got so upset about Lady Thor. Comics do goofy, experimental shit like that all the time. They also made Loki a little kid who sides with the good guys. At least Lady Thor is competently drawn by people who deserve to be comic book artists, unlike Squirrel Girl.

Side note, they didn't "make Thor a chick"- Thor and Lady Thor are two seperate people. Lady Thor was a human woman named Jane who was granted the powers of an Asgardian goddess, and also one of Thor's love interests. When Thor's abilities waned, his hammer temporarily chose a new person to wield it. He bestowed his title on Jane after that.

As One Man Bland pointed out, it all comes down to sales. Which experimental ideas they keep is determined by book and merchandise sales.

genderbending is just changing a character's gender, and its been used as a tool for writers/artists to explore interesting possibilities
also it p much goes w/out saying that a canon trans man would be turned into a trans woman, and vise versa, doesnt it?

That's how i see it too. People tend to do gendbend just for fun. I always roll my eyes whenever i see someone crying about gendbend...I just hope tumblrinas didn't discover Ranma 1/2 or else they'll tear it into shred for how "transphobic" it is.
