tbh i think that it's a result of the whole self0deprecating humor trend that's taken tumblr and the like by storm recently. they have little confidence in themselves, but instead of seeking effective recovery methods, they just run with the whole "lol im trash" aesthetic cause it makes them "self aware" and "witty."
