I like how hilariously out of touch the author is in thinking that black people are the only ones who ever have to think before they talk lest people misunderstand. No, that's called tact. Most people exercise it.Saw this comic on Tumblr, thought I might post it in the thread. The art style has a bit of that Tumblr ugliness going on, particular in the central black character, but I'm more interested in what our black Kiwis make of the message of it.
To me, it feels full of this bitterness and resentment that I feel could be avoided with this guys "friends" if he just talks to them about it like a rational adult. I find a lot of interpersonal problems can be solved just with open, earnest discussion, instead of just bottling up these feelings and blaming others when they remain clueless as to why you're pissed off. How can you possibly know that they'll turn on you like you're afraid they will until you speak up? Isn't that what activism is? Promoting genuine understanding with words?
Then again, this is not the full comic, so perhaps things turn out differently in the full version.
