After I found out that Meredith McClaren was going to be taking over for art duties for the Jem and the Holograms comic, I went to check her work out.

i do greatly prefer the art of the old artist behind that comic. it was very well done.
this artist does everything pretty similar. and it's quite bland?

Jem cartoon will always be more iconic and full of charm with it's 80s glory.
I googled comics and older ones are really well-drawn (I'm not a fan of modernized clothing and hairstyles, but artwork is decent), but new ones seem similar to those infamous squirell girl comics.

Of course she likes to do female superhero redesigns and you realize this woman has a bit of a breast-phobia. Her women are either flat or a-cups and their figures are kept hidden unless they're Sailor Moon characters or have rather muscular figures. Of course, the artist loves to draw shirtless, sexy and sometimes nude men. When you think out it, these kind of artists in the game, tabletop and comic industries treat breasts and curves as if they are shameful secrets that must be kept hidden. (Especially the later of the two.) Almost like a fundamentalist religion.

No modern femenism hasn't made her ashamed of female characteristics. They've just awakened her to how breasts must be inherently evil because evil cis het white men love them. The panacea of social justice is a placebo at best or just a new name for an older prescription at worst. When I see things like this I don't see the product of a free and unashamed society I see the product of a society that has only transplanted the hate they have of themselves unto others but the roots of their hate are still firmly planted in their low self esteem and lunatic desire to change themselves into anyone but themselves.

You can find them, but you have to look really hard. Even still, they're hard to look at. Most of them are drawn like they were meant to be offensive.

A lot of them tend to be Disney redesigns. Like Latina Snow White, Chinese Mulan, Islander Pochantas, etc.

I actually asked her on her tumblr why her women tend to either be a-cups or breastless and this was the answer...

"Mmmehhh? Sometimes it’s that their clothes make distinguishing their cup size difficult. Sometimes they’re wearing sports bras. I usually find a real life model of the body type I’m looking for (whichever sport I feel is an appropriate approximation.) And work off of that."

Now that Shantae: 1/2 Genie Hero is getting closer to being released, BBAD is starting to sink their claws into her again. I wonder how much spergetory there will be once the game comes out. I don't think it will be the same level they did with Quiet, but maybe Overwatch level. Personally, I find Shantae's design adorable.

You wanna learn something funny? Shantae's design was made by Matt Bozon's wife, Erin. When he asked her what kind of protagonist she would like to make for a game of her own. And he doesn't seem to have influenced it much.

They really should show her more respect.

I think it's just ignorance, not outright racism.
Hell, I know jack shit about my own race's history outside the stuff that was briefly covered in history classes, so I can see some (for example) American-born Japanese person being a weeaboo, or being otherwise mystified by some weird conception of Japan.

Isn't Fred supposed to be this pretty white guy too? Like, one of his traits was that he was the "handsome guy" (then again, philosophising about frikken Scooby Doo characters is probably stupid by default.)
I could accept Daphne as a black lady, if she was at least fashionable, because she was the "pretty girl" of the group. And Shaggy should look way more lanky... I mean, sheesh, these characters had, even though really bland, their personallity traits set.
It seems that they only really kept Velma the same. Probs because she was the "chubby nerd" and that is all tumblr wants to see.

Well they failed at that, they didn't even draw her chubby (for tumblr standards, anyway)

And Shaggy looks like one of those white British actors they all love to rag on and Fred looks like the most generic Asian male imaginable. I know they're supposed to be wearing modern clothing and nobody wears fucking ascots anymore, but the artist couldn't have given him more recognizable clothes, at least?

I mean a few of them are recognizable... but if it weren't for the dog I honestly wouldn't have guessed.

It's not bad...But it doesn't look like Scooby Doo. It's more like some Daria rip-off.

Also anyone notice how it's always the canon "prettiest" female characters the ones that are mostly racebended/added weight/uglified over the plainer girls in these drawings?

They want to bring down anyone prettier than they are, even if it's just fiction. They want the pretty ones to be just as miserable as they are. Really, it's just petty and sad.

I don't see why the artist couldn't at least give Daphne her signature hairband. There are plenty of black women with straight hair (some that could be natural) and/or dye it a different color. So why ignore them?
