to re-state:
diversity isn’t bad. what is bad is how diversity is presented. if you have a cast of characters in a show, game, book, or movie whos only characteristic is to be a label or mascot (IE “heres our BLACK character! theyre BLACK! they like [
insert a bunch of racial stereotypes here]!”) then it strips the characters in question of any substance and, surprise, does nothing of value for the minority being represented.
shit from the 80s was notorious for this kind of BS and youll notice how this trend of having “diverse” characters has come back in swing. can any of you guys name anything of any particular substance to these characters (even if they have literal labels next to the character telling you what their interests are?)
if your descriptions for these characters all kind of sound the same “oh uhh Quami was the nice guy, and uhh, lingo was the nice guy, and uhhh–” then congratulations, you’re reaching for substance where their is none. these dopes were created to appeal to a broad audience to sell you fuckin’ burgers and toys.
want some more modern examples of this sort of shallow nonsense? ok.
heres generation zed. youd think its creation would be to shed some light on minority representation. it instead serves as a publicity stunt for the red-headed chick who has been trying to make it as a comedian, and failing miserably.
