Give me money and you too can hang some badly drawn rainbow abortions on your wall.
with words written in basic ass fonts, too.
btw, the creator of the kickstarter seems pretty... annoying? full of herself? go and check it for discover that some of the stuff in the tiers are a fanart of her and a cosplay book full of fatties where she's included.

also, how the green one is the one representing bisexual pride?

It doesn't, really. She probably didn't think of adding lgbt flags until after the designs were done.

Or she didn't care that much to make the colors on every character match what they represent.

I'll give her credit for at least making profiles that elaborate on the characters beyond "they're black queer girls" [archive].

Personally... I find the descriptions of the magical girl attacks to be rather morbid given the (attempted) saccharine nature of art and the general positive ~everyone can be magical vibe~ the author is trying to project. It's also unusual that the main characters are 18-20 as opposed to being tweens or younger teens, which would be more relatable to the usual target magical girl demographic. But I guess she's probably trying to sell the book mainly to fellow black queer college-age women. I think this series could be cute if retooled a bit (ex. by toning down the characters' attacks, hiring a good artist, and not treating the characters' race, gender, and sexuality as the main reason to read this comic) but as it stands, it's not much of a step above the other stuff in this thread.

This screams tumblr so much.

I honestly don't get Tumblr's hard-on for magical girls. Like, I know we all grew up with Sailor Moon, but come on. At least spice it up with the occasional robot or harem.

They look kinda like how they draw the humanized MLP characters, except the green one. I'm not sure which is worse, MLP or the pride flag thing.

Harems are sexist cuz "muh male power fantasy" and tumblr would never stop in fighting about how to handle the robots gender.

Because it's girly, sparkly, and paste. Don't forget the messages about girl power. Of course tumblr will be all over that shit.
That's sort of ironic with some tumblrs like BBAD since they'd claim making a cute female is a bad thing. Then again, it wouldn't be far off for there to be hypocrisy.

Would that include harem's that SJW's secretly desire?

i always found the tumblr fondness for magical girls to be really ironic. seeing how it is the staple for stereotypical feminimity and frills and dresses, which is all things tumblrinas hate (bc most of them are dykes who claim to be nonbinary or some shit ) plus there's the fact magical girls are almost always skinny pale girls who aren't hambeasts.

i feel like steven universe is the sjw answer for magical girls. all that sparkly girly shit with 'acceptable' character designs. and some random fat kid.

From what I know, most of them actually didn't watch any magical girl series but Madoka and some Sailor Moon when they was little (and remember very little from it) just like the aesthetic and making it "subversive kawaii" etc. They also at the same time ignore less frilly western shows like Winx, Angel's Friends or Lolirock in their vision of what "magical girls" can be, but at the same time label everything aimed at girls or with female main character "magical girls" (Monster High, Ever After High, Totally Spies, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Disney Princesses...).
"Magical girls" is such a generic term everything with female characters and fantasy elements can be said to be "magical girl show".
And for "girl power" aspect... it's usually not message in those stories. Story is aimed aimed at tween girls so heroes are tween girls.

It's kinda the same relationship they have with Disney princesses. they only watched the movies when they were little one or two times and spend all their adulthood criticizing them (because "sexism damsels in distress" blah blah), but they go nuts over the whole princess and romance aesthetic they have. Kinda explains why they like Frozen and the new princess films so much, though. It has the same sparkly princess shit of old, but it mixes it up with their "strong independent woman who need no man" mentality that they love.

:powerlevel:I was into WITCH when i was a kid.:powerlevel: i'm glad they haven't placed their hands over it, especially considering it has elements that could pander to SJWs (POCs in the main lead, etc)

Do those even count as magical girls, if the characters don't even save the world or are particularly girly (Buffy)?

Now and days they HATE Frozen with a passion saying it was too white. Disney Princesses will never be good enough for them because they are either too white, too thin, to pretty, too straight, written by white people, etc.

Not just 'too white', it's because SAMI ARE POC WHY AREN'T THEY BLACK nevermind that this isn't how minorities work.

I feel like they're drawn to magical girls because they generally have a mostly female cast = more lesbians

That's why I hate the term "people of color". It just turns everything into a white/not white false dichotomy.

Omg i loved witch as a kid too.
It never got as popular as other magical girls shows tho, i cant remember there ever being figurines around.

A lot of tumblrinas are nb or demigirl/boys, so i dont get why theyre drawn to these shows that reek with the girly aesthetic.
I guess deep down they wanna be cute kick-ass girly girls.

it's because they're too insecure to dress like girls so they hide behind tomboy shit and smack a transtrender lable on it.
