In my opinion it sounds like he's planning to reward people for toxic positivity.
I thought the exact same thing when I read that. It's not the worst idea in theory but he's going to fuck it up as usual. There are many possible ways to define what a "positive community member" is, but it sounds like their version of it is just going to be a literal yes-man that gives every single game a positive review, which isn't helpful at all. If a game is bad, you should be able to say it's bad without worrying about it affecting your account.

The moment you start adding monetary/resource incentives for stuff like reviews, it introduces problems. Valve already figured this out, which is why they disconnected Steam points from the clown awards. They want reviews to be about whether the game is good or not, not just trying to guess what the general consensus will be in order to post the opposite opinion and farm awards. I'm amazed Garry doesn't see the parallels between this system and that one.
Everything I hear about this game is just extremely fake, from the community with financial interests in it playing unpaid, armchair lawyers to devs themselves encouraging fake engagement with carrots on sticks.
It's because Garry cannot take criticism. That's why. If you want to stick around in the community and not get banned you either can't say anything or you have to agree with every single decision they make. To be fair, it's not like this is super uncommon in modern gaming, but it's particularly bad with S&box.

I don't think he understands that most people who don't like the sausage models or don't like the game's clear lack of identity aren't complaining about those things because they hate Garry and they're evil and just want to troll him. While there are some people with bad intentions, it is not the majority of critics. Even the regular posters on this thread haven't expressed anything like that, we're just laughing at the dumb shit he constantly does.

Garry has been in need of an ego check for a years. But I dont think he'll learn anything from it.

It seems like s&box is now dropping free cosmetics.
Some of the free drops are being listed in the hundreds.

EDIT: The Scientist Respirator got sold for 100 dollars, lol.

Speaking of this, s&box game devs aren’t happy about their game receiving negative reviews.
On part 2 of the review system:

It seems like the fake positive reviews for drops are already happening after Garry dropped Update 26.05.20 blog.

Garry should both read and tell these guys to read Valve's article about Steam reviews. Specifically these parts:

1779395299311.png
1779395321611.png

While it obviously sucks to be given a bad/off-topic review, it's the internet bro. Shit happens. Censoring and in some cases attempting to retaliate against people for writing reviews is even worse. A screenshot in a previous post had a game developer saying he was going to personally ban someone who left a negative review from his game. Just that. No other reason. It's bad enough to do that in a free game, can you imagine if that happened to you after you paid $60 for it?

Consider the long-term. Once you export your game and put it on Steam, the training wheels are off, and people can say pretty much whatever they want about your game. This is why I brought up Valve; although they're not perfect either, they're much more reasonable with their rules and aren't going to ban you just for saying "this game sucks" or whatever.

Or god forbid, people can just talk about your game on other sites. Maybe a certain forum will even make a thread about it if the game gets big enough. What are you going to do then? Tell them they have to delete it? I don't think so.

But since Garry himself spends way too much time obsessing about Steam reviews, I guess it would be unreasonable to expect him to teach new developers any good practices.

It's been very fun following this trainwreck of a launch. Never knew Garry was this much of an ego driven dick.
Gunna to throw my own 2 cents into this pile. Whoever is designing for this game needs to learn how to tie a noose. Not only because of the sausage people but the rest aswell, like the new gravity gun.

I get this is supposed to be a homemade looking thing but there's WAY too much clutter of small random shit making this thing incomprehensible. Just because you can make shit super high poly and detailed doesn't mean you should. The only thing keeping this design together is the general shape of the original grav gun.
scrap gun.png
I get autistic about optimization and poly counts in games so I decompiled the model to check how it's made. (s&box has a convoluted ass file structure.) 42.7K Verts. That's almost 5 times more detail than a whole ass L4D2 survivor. What confused me was the big parts such as the iron or the bottle look fine but its the very small stuff that has a fuck load of unnecessary detail. And those pipes...
It effectively has 4 2048x2048 materials (+2 for fx) with diffuse and normalmaps which isn't bad.
scrap gun wireframe.png

Voices of the void is an indie game that leans into the HL1 look and source game references. Imo they designed a way better grav gun but I might be bias.

I had dev access in march and the sandbox was broke as fuck. Notably the streamed workshop shit. You are being streamed random workshop slop into the spawn list constantly. In the 1st 14 minute's I've messed around with it my game size jumped by around 15GB from all the shit being downloaded from their workshop. And this realistic art style is making the bar of entry very high if you wanna make addons/assets for stock stuff.

He appears to be a decent programmer, but someone that does not understand business or public relations at all. Or maybe he did before and magically forgot everything after releasing Rust. I feel kind of bad for him but at the same time he's had plenty of time and chances to improve and it's pretty obvious he doesn't want to.

And worst of all, he's been more or less encouraging his employees and community to be the exact same way.

My posts got mentioned in a s&box (((investors))) Discord server, lol.
I never got the inclination to IMMEDIATELY check someone's message history, profile, community groups and other details when coming across someone saying something I disagree with. (Usually, that's just a tell saying you are looking for info to dox people.)

Either they are right, wrong, trolling, stupid, etc... but I would just deal with it in kind.

Calling you both irrelevant and then proceeding to bitch, complain and launch an investigation into you tells me more about them. Especially since the posts they are offended about is you "Reposting" with no additional context news on the game itself that is publically shared. If they had a real grievance or proof of you/the thread was wrong, they didn't share that and instead bitched about "motive and imagined fee fees being hurt". These behaviors all reek of "Toxic positivity".

But this is the community Gary created in his closed gardens, both in his forums and his discords. And you can see how well that is going.

Garry & co. have been banned from the Facepunch/Knockout Forums because... they're not liberal enough for them or something. I don't know.

Sorry, Garry. Hard to feel bad for you when you do the exact same shit.

They were all beefing with a guy named ducc who I don't know much about but I know is banned from the S&box site.
1779487386182.png

He was in multiple organizations that published content and apparently had over 5,000 hours in the game, so he was likely pissed when he got banned for whatever reason. He later posted this review, which I agree with parts of, but he also dissed Kiwi Farms for some reason so fuck you ducc.
s&box is a game engine, so this review is mostly from a game development perspective.

The good aspects of the engine are dragged down by Garry's insistence on neglecting to properly moderate the community for which he is responsible.

First of all, if you are developing a game for s&box, you must immerse yourself in an environment where "locker room talk" is the norm. The documentation isn't good, so you'll need to involve yourself with the community if you want to learn the engine. However, the s&box community is laden with all the bad parts of an "old internet" irreverence that caters to men who grew up on 4chan and Something Awful, then forgot to grow up further.

Having been steeped in such a backwards, hostile developer community for three years, my creative energy and passion for game development has eroded away. It's hard to make games when I am perpetually stun-locked by the apparent inability for Garry to provide an environment that adheres to the barest minimum standard of professional courtesy. You won't find a code of conduct here, and if that appeals to you, then feel free to minimize your Redot and Kiwi Farms windows and hop on s&box, because you're gonna fit right in.

Second, the platform itself is overrun with low effort, AI-generated games and exploitative giveaways. It is the position of the s&box development leads that no intervention is needed on this matter, and that the cream will naturally rise to the top. Agree to disagree.

The laissez-faire abdication of duty to trust and safety is the underlying theme in both of my criticisms. I cannot in good conscience endorse a Roblox competitor that is even less concerned with safety than - and let me repeat this for emphasis - Roblox.

As a game developer, you owe yourself the experience of working in an environment that won't test your resilience to childish cyberbullying.
If this gets more complicated after this, I might consider making a dedicated "S&box Community" thread to keep track of Garry and the annoying discord/reddit mods; I understand that this specifically has very little to do with the game itself, but still thought it was interesting and worth posting about.

Pattern recognition speaking or not, but I keep noticing people who either have duck/ducks as their profile picture, spam animated dancing duck with a cap from Twitter, or base their whole personality around ducks are often obnoxious niggers. I wouldn't be shocked if he caused this to himself.

Today in lil' sampersandbox quirks I wish I didn't learn about, I had a "wait a moment" today and went back to look at something from that update with the attempt at game jamming disguised as news:

Audio Experiments

By Lorenz
Until now, s&box's environmental audio has been pretty bare-bones. The two existing features are:
  • DSP volumes placed in the map that trigger preset effects like "small concrete room"
  • Basic occlusion where a wall between you and a sound source would drop volume by 80%
So what they're implying here is they gutted the Source 2 audio system so hard they reduced it to the capabilities of Source 1, and now other people not from Facepunch have to fix it for everyone.

Real time audio tracing is expensive and there is a reason Steam Audio is baked for the most part. What possible reason can Garry actually have for removing it? This is sounding like DSP zones aren't even automatic like they were in Source 1.

I wouldn't be shocked if he caused this to himself.
You may be correct. Like I said before, I'm not really sure why he's banned. According to him, it was because he posted this on the S&box forums, which provoked Facepunch developer Matt Stevens (who is a huge faggot as well.)
1779512598401.png

From what I saw earlier, he seemed like someone that was genuinely interested in using the engine to make video games and got burned by Garry doing the same shit he always does. I do agree with a lot of the criticisms he and others on Knockout made. It really isn't appropriate to be posting inflammatory political shit in a discord server that's supposed to be providing info and support for a game engine.

Unfortunately, he seems to be taking it a little too far, making "demands" of Facepunch and threatening to contact people that "Garry must answer to," which is cringe and isn't going to work.

If this guy ends up reading this thread, and I think there's a decent chance he will, I do feel bad for you, but I think you need to drop the idea that you have any control over this situation. Garry is not a guy you can reason with. He doesn't care about you. You should just laugh at the dumb shit he does, maybe take a screenshot here or there, and move on with your day.

Here is his Knockout account if you'd like to keep an eye on him.
