We don’t have a lot of readily identifiable symbols (other than the flag), certainly none that say ‘ally’ rather than getting you assumed to be trans yourself.
I think you should get something from a fandom you currently enjoy, replacing an old love with a new one. It’s highly unlikely anyone will see a tattoo and think ‘ally’ so you are better off finding something that’s meaningful to you - find something new that brings you joy <3
I mean I think the gender symbol
️ could signify ally ship, but I don’t think it’d a great coverup
Personally if I saw just that symbol on a person, I'd think they were trans/gender nonconforming themselves
There is a trans ally flag. Black and white stripes with a trans colored up chevron. Not sure how official or widespread this is though so not sure if it can be recommended.
The flags are getting out of hand
Perhaps a Blåhaj!
collars and leashes and bones for the puppygirls (which i think is a good chunk)
The idea of getting tattoos of leashes, bones, and/or collars as a show of solidarity for trans people would be a buck wild choice.
Like most trans women aren’t puppygirls, and a very large portion of trans people aren't trans women. And I'm also not sure puppygirls are even majority trans. It would be such a confusing thing to explain.
And I hope this isn't coming across like attacking. This is just the funniest idea to me.
umm arf idk >x< i just unm.. im just critter, thats what i would have on me, i dont care about surface level i want the essence. what i personally experienced is mostly my transition into more critter self basically became a new person. I was not only held back in gender, but my true self whos emotions burst out as critter sounds

what.. why do other trans people hate me. why do humsns hate me i dont fucking get it. cant even fucking let one girl enjoy the things she enjoys without being disliked
girl, there's just a time and a place for that kinda thing, and this isn't it. if you wanna get that stuff tattooed, go for it! you're just making this thread all about you, and that's why you're getting downvoted
Very much a case of “your experience, though valid, is not universal”. You’ve expressed that you feel a particular way, but your original comment assumes most trans people feel the same, which demonstrably isn’t true. Others telling you that how you feel is not how they also feel is not them hating you.
yea i dont really see anything wrong with what i said, i never said to just put those im saying if they want trans related things that isnt the flag. waving the trans flag around doeent do much for me other than show surface level support and knowledge. if i got a tattoo i would like to acknowledge different parts of the community, although i dont thinj i ever can get a tattoo wayy too risky
Nobody hates you, silly!

You’re just quite unusual and a bit of a character so people are bewildered by that I think.
Anyway, don’t let the downvotes discourage you from being you.

I know someone who had a similar tattoo cover up, and they chose to go with some mushrooms. Partially as it was cool to them, partially as they thought it was funny that the mushrooms were decomposing the book reference.
But the main reason was they knew a trans tattoo artist, who drew awesome mushrooms.
I love the idea of the ally symbol - but whether you go with that or not, I think getting anything to cover up a Potter tattoo done by a trans artist, directly supports trans people and shows that allyship.
Good luck finding something you love to cover it up!
The mushrooms are genius. And getting the tattoo from a trans artist feels like a must. Mahalo nui loa.
Also because mushrooms have thousands of sexes. So it's also a covert "fuck you" to the gender binary.

This is a common cover up. One of the top posts on sick ass panthers is a HP cover up of a panther head.
I’m a tattoo girlie so I can give you some advice. If you want a true coverup without getting it lasered first, it will need to be about 30% larger and way darker. If you are willing to do a blast over where it shows, you can go for color, otherwise you need laser.
I only have traditional tattoos, so my suggestions seem boring. I just looked up the logo you have and I would start with laser. I don’t think it makes sense to get an ally tattoo, but you do you. You could always just put a dagger going through it with a trans flag in the handle, but that’s all I have for you from my brain.
Check cover up subreddits or search for what you have + cover up on IG to get suggestions. But it’s probably going to be big and black or it will show through. Laser sucks, so I prefer to just blast over old work. But you used Hawaiian words, if you’re down for tribal or sailor Jerry style stuff, you can definitely get that thing covered.
I also just want to say that I am so sorry you have a tattoo that you hate the meaning of. I would never see a HP tattoo and think the person supported JK Rowling. I would not recommend getting a meaningful tattoo as this is the number one reason people get tattoos removed. People are fine with shitty tattoos, they hate even good ones that remind them of a past relationship.
Check the cover up community and see what they say. Also, I recommend finding an artist you like and asking their opinion. That’s better than internet strangers. All that being said, thanks for being an ally. We need it and I appreciate you.
Oh, the knife is a good idea. So is the tribal idea. A friend irl suggested an animal. I could go with a tribal manō with "Trans rights or I bites".
If you do belong to group where "tribal" tattoos are a cultural practice, obviously ignore this.
But, if you don't, they generally are a closed cultural practice that has been appropriated and westernized, and covering up one problematic tattoo with another is maybe not the best idea...?
There is a huge difference in appreciation and appropriation. I would find a kanaka to design something if I were to get something tribal.

What about finding a trans artist and working with them to design something?
As other commenters have said, there isn't really a symbol that shows allyhood so just covering it up with something designed by one of us would be your next best option.

I got this Dark Mark tattoo on my forearm almost 10 years ago because I was a Harry Potter fan. It used to bring me joy. Now it feels like a symbol of hateful bigotry.
I mean..
. even in the world of HP, the Dark Mark was always a symbol of hateful bigotry. Now it's become a symbol of multiple hateful bigotries.
I dont get why people would get that tattoo in the first place, the death eaters are like wizard nazis.
[–]Zinokk
I'm sorry but that specific tattoo always represented bigotry/hatred imo
I liked Harry Potter growing up too, and
seeing people tattoo the sign of the worst, most evil, group in the book, always made me raise an eyebrow, even before we knew about the authors unfortunate ways.
That being said, kudos to you for getting it covered. I think you should pick something meaningful to you. Personally I vote for the sick ass panther.
I thought the same thing. Getting a tattoo of the murderous bigoted baddies from a fictional world is certainly a choice.
Eh, I know several people with 40k Inquisition or Sororitas tattoos and those guys make the KKK look wholesome.

Turn it into a blahaj
[–]RedshiftSinger
I think any cover up of a HP tattoo shows that you’re committed to being an ally, even if it’s not visually obvious. Anyone who knows, knows. And to anyone who doesn’t know that you had a different tattoo before, it removes the question of whether you’re a bigot, clueless/uncaring, or do care but haven’t been able to afford or otherwise access removal/cover-up yet.
It’s hard to suggest symbols that would overtly show allyship even to people who don’t realize it’s a cover-up, because
most of the overt trans symbols are things that would more likely cause people to assume that you’re trans. So I’d lean subtle (a shark for blahaj, perhaps?) or just choose a design you like that’ll cover the existing tattoo effectively.
[–]goodgodboy
I mean a butterfly its not uncommon for Trans folks, but its a tattoo to simbolize a metamorphosis not allyship,
maybe a tattoo of a series, movie, book by a Trans author that you like? The Matrix is preety popular
[–]FullPruneNight
Covering it up is really enough of a commitment to allyship, and I think getting a trans specific tattoo isn’t a particularly effective form of allyship. I can see some trans people thinking you are also trans from that and being confused. I’m honestly not sure how I would feel if I met a cis person with a trans tattoo tbh.
But you could always get something more broad but still “supportive”:
something symbolizing living authentically, or resistance, or growth or rebirth.
[–]bubblepipemedia
I’d go with “protect trans youth”
I feel like right now that is one of the bigger fights. We aren’t just fighting for our right to exist but the rights of those coming up in this madness. I know too many kids now (coincidentally) that cannot get the help they need
[–]Only_Fig_8147
Hey even if you ignore the Transphobia,
why in the world would you get the mark of the wizard nazis as a tattoo.
[–]EmeraldUsagi
..how about a mongoose attacking the snake? Or a can of TERF-b-gone spraying it in the face? I think it makes a stronger statement to subvert the existing symbolism than to try to erase it, or adopt something that might be interpreted the wrong way.
[–]laserwolf99
I dont know what a dark mark is, but
is there a way you can alter it so that current harry potter fans will feel stupid when they see it? Some way to clown on them?
Like they go "oh thats a cool tattoo!" and then they look harder and think "oh nm, im a tool"
IIRC it's a snake winding through a skull. Not terribly creative of JoRo if you ask me, but it is what it is.
ty, shes really subtle with the snake thing!
I'd give it trans colors and call it a trans mark. Only the coolest wizards have 1
Someone else mentioned a mongoose and I approve of this. If I had better drawing skills I would sketch a flag-colored mongoose lol
[–]PEKKACHUNREAL_II
Wasn’t that the wizard swastika even before Rowling started her tweeting?
[–]Oddish_Femboy
The Ikea shark.
[–]Jenny_Show
Perhaps a phoenix. I don't know if other people aside from me associate them with being trans but the idea of rebirth and renewal they embody personally resonates with me.
[–]iSmellLikeFartz
r/JKRegerts is a whole subreddit devoted to this
[–]irisheye37
You shouldn't get a tattoo for someone else's sake, if it makes you happy go for it, but there are more effective ways to show that you're an ally
But covering up the wizard Nazi tattoo from the transphobe book is maybe a good idea.
Always felt that Dark Mark tattoos were a wild choice for this reason lol. I also have a HP tattoo, but it’s the Deathly Hallows symbol
Yeah, any Harry Potter tattoo is questionable in 2026, but the Dark Mark feels like a way more urgent cover up than something like the Deathly Hallows symbol.
Yeahhhh, I’ve considered getting mine covered up, but I also don’t want to let Rowling take away something that was a huge part of my childhood. A lot of my family read it and was fairly into it, so it’s definitely more to me than just a fandom, especially now that I’m cutting off a lot of my family :/
Yeah i almost got the Gryffindor Lion, i never understood people who got the dark mark
If they do it for their own sake then sure, but it wouldn't make them a better ally
I don't think a trans flag tattoo makes someone a better ally but I do think covering a transphobic tattoo does. And if you're going to cover it you might as well use a trans-positive design
The tattoo isn't for others sake. It's for me. It will be replaced with a pro trans tattoo even if no one else weighs in. I was just asking for ideas on what to put there.
