He was the flamboyant man responsible for the Sweatin' to the Oldies tapes in the 80s.

Also the butt of a lot of jokes about homosexuality. Apparently he had some weird incident with David Letterman?

He was a fitness legend active from the 70s until the 2000s. He made people feel good and encouraged a generation to have fun while working out. He also endorsed the legendary Snackwells Fat-Free Devil's Food Cakes from the 90s. His endorsement alone was enough to make them the must-have snack for years and they struggled to keep up with demand. He made fitness fun, healthy food cool, and was genuinely nice.

Those things were fucking foul, imo. I didn't know Mr. Simmons endorsed them.

He was a recluse for much of his life after he busted his knee and needed to get it replaced. Didn't want the public to see the state he was in.

The most telling evidence on Simmons' sexuality is trying to sue some tabloid claiming he did a sex change and he reacted by suing for libel.

My leading theory is that he wasn't actually gay but knew no one would believe him if he denied it. My second close competing theory is that he was gay after all but was completely disgusted with the LGBT movement and wanted nothing to do with them.

I think he was but just kept his private life very private and I respect him for that. IIRC Liberace did the same thing.
