They very recently added a search function and an offline mode, to let you know where the store is in terms of features.

No bundles, no gifting, no paypal, no searching by genre (you can search for "Spooky's House of Jumpscares" but not "Horror Games") or tags, no mod support, no workshops, no automatic refunds, no wishlists, no cloud saves, and so on.

It's really really bare-bones and it seems pretty clear that they're putting more effort into the chinese malware side of the software than the actual "usable product" side of it. The launcher (despite only having like a few games) can't even detect if you have a game in your library before trying to sell you add ons (so you can buy addons/DLC for games you don't own).

They also make a really huge deal out of "we take less of a cut than steam, it's better for developers and consumers!" - when in practice all games launch at the same price on all platforms, so you (as a consumer) aren't seeing any benefit. Developers are typically paid a salary and aren't bonused so the people who are actually keeping all the extra money from the EGS are the owners/execs and/or the publishing company. Additionally, just because they offer a lower "take" now, that doesn't mean that they always will.

The store isn't just behind steam in terms of features, it's behind basically every store and launcher in existence. It's not better than GoG, UPLAY, ORIGIN, or even the Nexon Launcher. Those stores have some exclusive titles, also, but those are first party exclusives (Uplay is Ubisoft, so they have all the Assassin Creed games, Origin is EA so they have Madden, Fifa, whatever, and so on) which people don't love, but it makes sense for them to try and keep that profit margin. Epic Games is buying timed exclusives for games they don't manufacture or publish, many of those games previously being advertised on Steam as being for Steam, which is another pain point.

That said, with the piles of cash Epic is throwing around, it's a no-brainier for Randy Pitchford (and company) to take their offer. Randy in particular has been getting ready for this over the last few months on twitter and he is not at all above stealing cash (Secret bonuses and stealing huge cash from Sega) so this is easy for him. It reduces a lot of sales risk for BL3. It's crazy however, for Randy Pitchford, to think that anyone is fooled by him. He is shilling for EGS because they paid him a ton of fucking money and he's out there trying to act like "Sure they paid my company a giant pile of cash and then (allegedly) threw me a pile of cash under the table; but even if they didn't it's still a good product!" and getting mad when people are telling him to eat shit.

Yeah the shilling of the product is really stirring the pot if he came out and said "Hey I did this because my company gets more dosh and you will still see it on Steam in six months!" (And possible hints at launching on Steam at a reduced price to make up for the later release and extra money earned from egs) would help immensely instead he just sits there and keeps telling really transparent lies and knowing him he will release on Steam at a higher/same launch price.

Randy is just a compulsive liar, though. He seems nearly incapable of telling the truth about even the simplest of things.

A new game releasing in a beloved series should be a real easy "slam dunk" in terms of getting positive press. You just need a few good trailers (and BL3 still needs an actual, good gameplay tailers) and to get in front of any controversies (for BL3, the EGS exclusive, the "Mega Ultra Deluxe" edition, the "XP booster" being a thing, the season pass and DLC potiental) and handle them correctly (or eliminate them). It's that last step where Randy has shot his product in the foot and where he's really working to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

I really hope for his sake that BL3 is good, because good lord if it isn't, they've lost their audience.

The thing is how many fucking looter shooters have been released within just the last couple of months with more on the way? And then you're adding yet another looter shooter to the mix where each 'class' was essentially one ability with a bunch of passives, so BL 3 looks pretty much like every other BL game.

Not to mention Randy Pitchford is a huge piece of shit. I'm not interested in buying this at all. Like even a little.

The cuck makes a prediction.

I wanna know what the writing will be like.
Borderlands 2 is famous for its reliance on memes that were old by the time the game was released. However, the game was written by well known joke Anthony Burch (his autistic wedding below) who left the industry. I'm curious who will replace him.

Nobody's jumped on this, so I went ahead and made an account, I'll correct the post if anything's fucked up.
Anyway, Randy clearly thought that enough time had passed since Oblivion came out that he could say there's no microtransactions while still sliding cosmetic DLC into his game. Game Informer corrected him on this, and Randy was NOT happy.

Randy could have taken MORE of your money, yet he chose the benevolent high road! I tell you, gamers are so ungrateful.

This didn't end there
They went back and forth with each other.

I’m just so hurt right now, Andy.

Randy Pitchford: No microtransactions!

Article from a gaming magazine where they seem to have forgotten for a moment they are supposed to be the unofficial advertising arm of game publishers: Borderlands 3 will have cosmetic microtransactions

Randy Pitchford, total professional: Well, yeah but I didn't mean those types of microtransactions!

Just another example of Pitchford lying, often over needless and useless stuff, in this case he said no microtransactions but there actually are so he blames the people reporting it. Just like when he didn't want to pay for Troy Baker to voice a character. Instead of admitting he didn't want to pay he lied and said Baker turned it down, and then when Baker said otherwise he tried to weasel-word his way out by saying "Oh, I HEARD he had turned it down."

Randy is such a sleazeball that I'm surprised anyone in games media takes what he says seriously. Thanks @Water Underground, I've updated the OP with a link to your post.

Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy, oh boy, what do we have here champs? David Eddings steps up to the plate to deliver some stuff about Bitchford.

This is pretty hilarious, but I still want to "trust but verify" this, because it's very easy for someone to just say this without any evidence. It's very likely Randy did this, but even then, he shouldn't be Kavanaugh'd.

True. But, the shitstorm from the resulting fallout will be a sight nonetheless.
