Its not a dog replacement, its a drone with a camera on legs. And worst comes to worst, you can strap explosives on it and blow a cornered shooter up.

I guess part of having these things do those trials is to look what kind of application they might be useful for. Walking set of eyes with a very small and narrow profile might be handy in certain situations, but obviously not all situations. Maybe they find out there is no situation where the robodogs serve so well that they really need to adopt them, maybe they find one thing that they are so good at, that it's worthwhile to stock up on a few robodogs here and there. It's not so much about getting robodogs for a certaion purpose and more of a general test of how viable they are.
