Just wanted to make a recommendation. This is a pretty bare Bones arcade style racer. It's a simple game and it's pretty fun in my opinion. The first one's okay too. I prefer the Switch version to the mobile. It also has a pretty good selection of cars.

Must. Damn near perfect arcade racer with solid feel, style, and soundtrack.
Gonna hijack this to gush about OutRunners. It's the last official "2D" entry in the series. The description in this video calls it the limit of what you can do with sprite scaling and I'm inclined to agree. Some of the pseudo-3D effects ore really convincing:

It also has a course layout a little more advanced than a basic triangle (TWO triangles, and they meet on the opposite side of the globe). My favorite thing is that you can see the DNA of OutRun 2/2SP in a lot of these stages. Just in the first course shown, you pass through San Francisco, Easter Island and Egypt, which are all location revisited in 2/2SP.

OutRunners is a really underrated entry in the series IMO.

Spec Racing is fun but I almost wish it had no clip on permanently. Since everyone has rhe exact same car the pack stays close long enough someome is bound to smash you out of the way of a gate and then you're completely fucked.

But when people aren't being assholes online has been great. The elevation/roads/etc all make for fun tracks vs the flat openness of Mexico.

I can definitely see myself fucking about online a lot, its like Mario Kart tier brain off and race.

Annoying that the won't re-release the Outrun games, even if they change the cars to remove the licence. But this is Sega, they have Daytona 2 fully playable in the Like A Dragon games but won't sell it separately.
I recall Homefront: The Revolution doing something similar with a TimeSplitters game hidden inside the game proper. I find that neat. You'd have two games in one.

I'm guessing with licensing issues, somehow someway, Like A Dragon was a loophole exception. Oh, they changed the models of the Ferrari to skirt over that.

The Drift Club missions were fun. Blah blah power of friendship but nobody is dropping random japanese words or jerking off the equivalent of Fire Fest.

The map only having two festival sites is nice. The stunt jumps/speed traps/etc are fun but the fucking drift zones are insane.

My biggest issue right now closing out to legend island and going to full fucking around/online is that you basically NEED to win races to advance and the AI difficulty is either piss easy or literally unbeatable because their cars are reice as quick as you even with a minmaxed tune.

The online races need to ding you with a slow down for missing a gate versus the bullshit go to the back and stopped after 3 seconds nonsense.

Still probably my favorite Horizon, besides the usual issues like 'just let me buy the cars and horns/etc I want, faggots'. Carried by the fact the roads are narrow and twisty enough you can't just hold the trigger down every race. There's even some off camber corners and curves that rise or fall in the middle so you need to control the throttle to not spin out.

the fucking drift zones are insane.
Have shit tires. Manual shifting. 200+torque. Then slam into 3rd and modulate the throttle and be generous with e-brake when needs be.

Tires feel funny in 6, or it may just be me. Otherwise, yea......if you don't AWD Racing V12 swap even your Chonda Civvy then goodbye higher AI difficulties....

they've been mentioned in this thread before, but Redout and Redout 2 are incredible games. they're often compared to Wipeout but I don't think the comparison holds, Redout is much more technical and jesus christ the higher end races will melt your fucking face off. this Joltout guy on YouTube has essentially perfected both games:

Night Runners is apparently nearing completion according to the guy's Patreon. if you're a fan of Japanese street racing games like Tokyo Xtreme Racer, this game is basically fetish porn. the solo dev making it is a Japanese car sicko and it shows. the aura on this game's trailer is insane:

apparently the new Forza is good as well, but I'm waiting for a sale.

the original Horizon Chase was sick, I was ready to buy the sequel day 1 but they decided to make it an Epic store exclusive (:_(

The patreon alpha only has touge, and only a part of the touge map to boot, I wouldn't say it's nearing completion, it has 3 chassis but, the chassis have insane ammounts of customisation, I expect another year and a half but, for what it is right now? Damn good if you only want a touge game, though it needs better customization support.

The dirt ones are fucked and the road ones are either easy to get 3 stars are genuinely retarded for more than 2 even weaving as much as possible on the straights.

It just sucks the difficulties are 'win by 10 seconds in your sleep' or 'fuck you fifth place with 1st 45 seconds ahead of you' and no in between.

Even with the crazy meta cards it just beats your ass with AI you can't keep up with, no idea what the highest difficulties even look like. I'm running a meta build and they're still accelerating faster once I hit top speed in the 260s some races.

Soon as I get legend island I'm sticking to online.

The stunt jumps/speed traps/etc are fun but the fucking drift zones are insane.

The trick with drift zones is to make wide arcs and snake to use as much of the road as you can. Steering angle and speed effect the point modifier, and I've found that slightly slower but wider sweeping drifts give about the same or slightly less points than going through faster with less angle. You are right that some of the zones pretty much require perfection, namely the ones on touge routes.

Have shit tires. Manual shifting. 200+torque. Then slam into 3rd and modulate the throttle and be generous with e-brake when needs be.

I'd also add toeing out the tires to reduce the surface area and increasing air pressure. You can also do some cheeky shit with a limited slip diff to lock in a set drift angle instead of using the usual drift/closed diff. It requires more handbrake usage to get the initial turn in though. I've been having a good run with the drift Ford F-150 Lariet, it's AWD and the way it crab walks when it drifts is more predictable than RWD. It reminds me of the Ken Block (R.I.P.) Hoonicorn Mustang from FH5 in how it handles and how easily it breaks traction.
