Just some thoughts over the past few pages...

Fetish art is notoriously bad, as the object is titillation and not much else. As long as it gets the job done of jerking off the artist or viewer, that's about as much effort as they are willing to put into it. I don't think that the fact of both genders being actively involved in it makes it any better, but it is what it is. I'd say the vast, vast majority of Fetish artists tend to be autistic in one way or another, and many are lolcows in their own right.

Which means that if you're triggered by these degenerates, it says a lot about your insecurity. I do find it amusing that the mere thought of boobs larger than a B cup sends these women over the moon. "Realistic" women have to be drab and dull as possible because they are incredibly drab and dull, which they assume is so how normal. Aren't average breast sizes in the Western world getting larger, anyway? I digress.

I never see men react this way to unrealistic depictions of the male physique in anime and other media. I'd say most men would like to have the body of, say an Alex Louis Armstrong (a character created by a woman, btw), but most don't bitch about it on public forums or act like they are under attack or being objectified. It goes back to modern Western society saying that men can't have standards of what they find attractive, whether it be big boobs or anything else.

I'm not going to defend pornography, but I'm not going to defend actively looking up pornography only to bitch about pornography being pornography.

You could apply that reasoning to 99% of the supposedly SFW images in the SJW art thread. Most of the stuff there is bad, low-effort, and made explicitly to cater to the artist's tastes. The amount of detail put into, say, cellulitis or body hair on those "realistic" characters they like to draw, compared to the generally extremely simple faces and anatomy, is downright pornographic.

Is there such a thing as a non-sexual fetish?

Very late reply but

This is just not true, plenty of men drool over hyper muscular men. If you've ever been to /fit/ you might have seen a 'fictional ideal body thread' where spergs post their fav anime heroes they want to look like even tho it's almost impossible.
These people don't know what Pillar Men are & it shows.

Uh. This is my Samus drawing, haha. No Joke.

the funny thing is, I didn’t intend for it to necessarily be more realistic Or go for an SJW angle. I just Personally like the idea of buffer Samus because of an old Super Metroid thing that said she was like, 180 lbs and 6’3”

I even based her off of a really hot gymnast, lol.

edit:: added another sketch.

I won't say it's bad, but there's this weird sense of mediocrity. Could be just me tho.

She looks cute in the first and second pic but why is her hair green?

I'm perfectly fine with beefy Samus since she still looks like a woman (that's more that can be said for a lot of "let's beef up a female character!"). But her hair color and style have been some of her most easily identifiable characteristics outside of the suit since Super Metroid and you changed both. She's not even wearing anything even remotely like her Zero suit that her outfit is meant to be a redesign of.

How was anyone supposed to know that was Samus and not just some random green-haired chick staring at the unfortunate love-child of the Flying Spaghetti Monster and a jellyfish? I like the art, but you're supposed to retain the most identifiable characteristics of a character in a redesign, even if you tweak them around. The only things she's retained from the original Samus design are that she's a woman and she has light skin.

That sucks how your art was used for some retarded circlejerk. Regardless, you should really retain some of the core design elements from the original. I wouldn’t have known it was Samus if it wasn’t for the fact that the person who posted it on the sub said so. And that should be an easy fix because it’s just a matter of coloring.

Oh hey, that’s the same artist who draws the Ramia comic. The comic about a thicc, buff, heavily scarred heroine.

Anyway, lots of people made jokes about her necklace looking like boobs. I kinda had a double take myself. But personally I find it weirder that her dress is see through with only that necklace and whatever that is on the front of her dress being the only things covering her.

EDIT: I know this is late but this is my first time on this thread so yeah.

I get what you mean, though this was specifically a ‘ground-up’ redesign of the first game, hence her green hair, and the purple undergarments (the little boomerang shape on her top was something that consistently appeared in art from the first game). So, while it’s definitely niche, I still tried to retain some recognizable elements of her specific OG design. Context matters too— this isn’t her zero-suit, it’s literally just underwear, and it was alongside other pieces. Don’t want to derail this topic too much, but here’s what it was paired with.

This all said, I’m just surprised that this reddit (full of whiny losers) liked it, considering she’s wearing less clothes than the official version, haha.

Don't get me wrong, it's very well made. But it's just, very non-Samus like. TBH, I would've thought it was a female OC at first, if you wouldn't have mentioned that it was a Samus Redraw.

Seriously tho, if you're doing a recreation of your version, then try to make it more Samus like, so at least if one confuses it, they could say that it remotely reminds them of Samus, even if it's just a little bit.

So... basically, you did the equivalent of stating you were redesigning Princess Peach, but redesigning Pauline instead. That's... okay? I think you'd be better served just calling that one an OC based on a very, very old version of Samus Aran. The design is separated from what people know as Samus by so many steps she might as well be her own thing. And who knows, it could be a neat story in and of itself. And I'm not going to complain either way, as I said I like the art.

I think that's because you went with a fairly standard underwear. There's this weird gradient in complaints as you go up in skin coverage, it goes like this:
Nude (bad) → skimpy underwear (bad) → normal/practical underwear (good) → lingerie (bad) → skinsuit/speedsuit (good) → full-body catsuit (bad).

You landed right on "practical underwear" with that look.

I get your criticism, and it is valid. Generally though, my approach to redesigns are to usually use the source material merely as a launching off point To mostly reject canon. My followers knew it was Samus because of the context of the project at large, and I wanted to see how different I could make it while still retaining at least a few recognizable elements from the original ‘86 game, which they all caught onto.

So... basically, you did the equivalent of stating you were redesigning Princess Peach, but redesigning Pauline instead.

I suppose that's one way of looking at it, though to be fair, I've built an audience that expects an old-school, niche sense of redesigning. I tend to go 'back to the first source' when doing this kind of thing, and I've done a handful of large projects in this vein-- did the same thing for the first Legend of Zelda and Doom, where a lot of the designs were big departures from their current incarnations, but again, context matters.

Hope I'm not coming across as too defensive, haha. Not to say that you guys *don't* like it, but if anyone doesn't, I'm not offended.

Hey, at least the criticism in here's constructive. Or at least more so than the usual on the internet. Really, as long as you don't go full Dobson with citing the "original" sources you'll be fine.

That being said, you shouldn't be overly keen to create a connection between your presence on this site and whatever one you use to post art.

Also, is it just me or are a large percentage of the people in the subreddit just closeted musclegirl fetishists?

That must be a very spacious (and transparent) closet. One of the best ways to get positive attention there is to draw girls who are at least 20% whey protein by volume.

Send this to Neil Druckmann so next time he designs a muscular woman she can still look like an actual woman. Or more likely he'll give her a Hulk Hogan body out of spite, which would at least be good for a laugh.
