Nah, its just as true in Japan. There's this business, called "Luxury" (here's the website; NSFW probably), located in Kawasaki, Tokyo which is basically a luxury whorehouse. i think it goes by the asian massage parlor rules, that fee is for the house but the tip which is usually 1-3x the fee is what the girls get.

sort of like more warped version of a nail salon or hair salon. I remember one bit from a radio show taking that latina's nail bit and swapping it with massage parlor references but that was super early youtube no way in hell we can find it now

Mostly just a way of maintaining some privacy. Only the paying customers get to see them in all their glory. We get just enough to know they're cute to entice us.

For the girls, most of the money is made in the tips, gifts, and bonuses they receive, just like with hostesses and the like. With the top clients who are repeat customers, a girl could probably make at least three times that, easy. The general expectation is that these girls will get multiple grand for a job well done, and will get that customer's continued patronage in the future, ensuring a recurring source of income. Plus, being porn stars, many get to, of course, hock their next big releases to discerning customers.
