Octopath Traveler got a lot of hype before it launched, which I figure came from it being the Switch's first true exclusive (at the time) RPG, and something of a throwback to PS1-era RPGs, considering it looks like one, but with post-processing effects. The music is either bland or pleasant, the battle theme is very good, and the idea of picking one of eight characters to start with was really cool. But then again, most of those characters are incredibly boring and cookie cutter, and I restarted the game a couple of times before settling on Primrose the dancer, considering the thief and item shop girl's intros were very boring.

and then I recruited maybe half of the cast before just shelving the game, declaring it "ok", but now looking back and remembering how I can barely remember a thing about the game. It's all incredibly bland, and everything runs together. The writing is incredibly boring, bland, safe, and just soulless. Battles, even random common ones, go on way too long, and bosses are tests of endurance, considering EVERYTHING is a damage sponge.

It's not an awful game, but it's definitely like a 4/10. It's a comfort food kind of game for a certain kind of person, but it definitely did not deserve the hype it got. And come to think of it, it's nuts that it got so much more attention than Dragon Quest 11.
I absolutely do not trust Triangle Strategy after the mess that was Octopath Traveler. Square is totally fucked in the head when it comes to making games.

Also BOTW was full of Asians what the fuck was that guy saying?

Nice to see that Square is still losing their touch.

East Asia's a pretty broad place, and aren't Asian people notably proud of their home countries? Seems like every Azn dude I come across, the first thing I learn about is what home country their family comes from. This nigga glowin', I swear.

Yeah, he replied to that guy, but not another doesn't want a serious answer, he just wants an inlet to whine about those dang dirty Whites. He sure replied to that guy, but not the top-rated comment that recommended Yakuza. Or another with Sleeping Dogs. Both excellent answers.

A lot of his post history is just him REE'ing at white people in different ways, too. Plus, plenty of funny random shit like these:

u/BlueKnightoftheCross, even Reddit finds you insufferable.
Well I doubt if shit like Genshin Impact or Azure Lane will appeal to him, considering how those turned out to be mostly "white" Asians.

Seriously man, Triangle Strategy is more of visual novel than an actual game, going by my experience with the two demos. You'll be better off switching consoles, at this rate.
Also BOTW was full of Asians what the fuck was that guy saying?
It's the same old racial diversity argument that we've all seen before. Only reason why I posted it is because people were taking the bait.

lol, blaming those darn dirty pirates on Nintendo's steep prices, as if they haven't always been like that. Hacks for Nintendo platforms always happen during its mid-late life, when the majority of big games have already sold well. And even then, the hacks always start out really user unfriendly, sometimes asking you to do crazy shit like short a wire while installing something (Switch jigs, also iirc early DS flashcards needed this), and only when the console is all but dead do they get user friendly enough that anyone can do it. Early 3DS hacks took ages to install and were a freaking nightmare.

It's funny because Iwata said outright why Nintendo doesn't sell cheap. it creates the expectation that a game will be steeply discounted eventually, so people are less likely to buy titles new.

Also, like, one of the more contemptible things about Reddit is how often they whine about capitalism and shit, but then in these kinds of situations, they always blame the pirates, not the actual company for selling games at a premium. As if Nintendo is some hapless little local business just barely scraping by. While the Redditors also cheer for actual small businesses getting destroyed by BLM or the Canadian government or whatever.

Seriously! Build your own bingbingwahoo.

Behold, the latest diversity title for the Switch.

Ok, it's an cross-platform release, but it's lacking the wow factor, in my opinion.

The praise of octopath has always been off to me. They just made a fugly pseudo-realistic 3d world, slapped 2d sprites with shadows in, added a fuck ton of god rays, DoF, then called it a day. Doesn't help the story and gameplay are top generic RPG. I do agree that Pokemon needs a different style, but this is not it.
Never thought sprite art could get butt uglier after "HD filters" but Octopath found a way. Simply unpleasant to look at.

The best part of octopath was just running up to every NPC as the thief guy and stealing shit, otherwise I can't really remember much of my playthrough besides having fun with that and ending up quitting my playthrough because I was just tired of every boss being a damage sponge.

Any fanbase okay with being sold literal cardboard deserves the soyboy moniker. Only Nintendo would have the balls to do that shit with a straight face and somehow get away with it.

People had an aneurysm today about the switch not getting the new Shin Megami Tensei game but every other platform is.

The hardcore Nintendo fans couldn't give a shit because Atlus stuff just isn't on their radar(and that also upset them) but the hardcore switch weebs have even started to alienate themselves from normal weebs by acting like Resetera and proving horseshoe theory right again.

They had nearly every weeb site's staff pulling double duty deleting spam.

You're the massive sony fanboy who has an aneurysm every single time Sony gets criticized with your insane delusions everywhere in the game forum. Pipe that down first before being allowed to mock other fanboys.

The fact the game is made by the Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE team, and looks like more a Caligula game than an actual gritty & sleazy 90s cyberpunk Souls Hackers, is kinda a red flag. Would have been fine this Atlus game project had an entirely different name attached to it.

It's also a Playstation exclusive in Japan which is an expedite way to send the game to die over there. Might not be a big loss though

Octopath Traveler was made in partnership with Acquire while Triangle Strategy was reported to be co-developed with Artdink. So the latter may turn out to be better in the end but I don't blame you for being cautious

Dude people named Gematsu's users for being the grievance faggots right off the bat.

The fact that Gemetsu's users can be that predictable just as much as Resetera says lots. That and they have an absentee owner too ( well before Resetera's sold the site to Swedish boys)

One could say it's programmable at this point. Like pushing buttons on a controller.

Octopath blew up because 1) nostalgiashit 2) a switch game that isn't a sequel or spinoff. Mediocre at best, but for your nintendo consoomer that's like a Classic For The Ages.

They dropped it once the PC Port was announced.

It cribbed way too much from old school RPGs while making the whole ordeal tedious. At least square is using the stuff they made from Octopath ro remake actual old school RPGs now like Dragon Quest 3 and Live A Live.

And that artstyle looks like shit IMO. I prefer even the pixel remasters.

Exactly. I don't know why they're acting surprised when the 3/2DS hasn't received a major game for so long.

The biggest plus from this is the fact that I can just hack my 3DS and get as much out of it as I want now.
One of the best things about the 3DS is the fact that it's natively compatible with DS games. All you have to do is load up the SD card with them, install some custom firmware (which is a pain in the dick, but it's worth it), and you're playing DS games on real hardware, not emulated, and you have access to the 3DS library.
