So, how quickly does everyone think Marvel & Disney will shit the bed on this one? My vote is for the second episode... (I know, I know -- I'm giving these idiots too much credit that they'll be at least semi-competent in the first episode...)
They will do the classic "Put every interesting scene in the trailer and hope people stick around for the rest of the 90% slop" like the original Suicide Squad movie.

Thing is for the first 18 episodes there are 13 writers (including Feige credited for one, I'm assuming the opener). None of the others have done anything decent. 5 are women.

The showrunner is at least constant for the initial run, and it's a guy who's been in the business for a while.

The directors are great - it's the pair of guys who did Resolution, There's Something in the Dirt, and The Endless. But they've also worked for Disney (Moon Knight et al) and have done just soulless slop. So they're not going to put their own spin on this or anything, they will just be competent pushovers. I, for one, would LOVE to see their brand of trippy psych horror applied to Daredevil, but that's not what we're going to get. At all.

I suspect this will be just competent, twpid slop AT BEST. And that's my optimistic take. An inoffensive Daredevil where he doesn't get cucked TOO much, and is actually in the show (as opposed to his black niece who is, coincidentally, an even BETTER Daredevil!). I mean I wasn't the biggest fan of the Netflix series either, but I just highly doubt that this crew has the capability or desire to make anything interesting.

However, I suspect the lack of in your face DEI shit and a somewhat more action oriented show will have the vast majority soy-shrieking that Marvel is so back.

Honestly I don't know what's worse. A shitty DEI Daredevil that no one watches, or a tepid, boring, ball-less Daredevil that everyone holds up as the chalice of awesomeness.

They also just deaged him in the comics. Don't know what keeps Frank Castle so young since he's a Vietnam vet. Hate?

marvel finally realised that tying a characters backstory to an actual historical event makes issues when your universe actually moves forward with the real world times.

so hes no longer a vietnam veteran hes a veteran of a made up conflict called the sin-cong conflict.

The sliding time scale has been a thing since at least the '80s, I think. As for Castle, yeah, the war that shaped him is now some made up conflict but in the MAX series he was definitely still a Vietnam vet, which put him in his late 50s throughout most of that series. In the origin mini, Born, it's suggested he struck a bargain with the devil but whether that was something that actually happened or not is left up to the reader.

Marvel finally realized creating grounded realistic characters who's motivations and personality are informed by the circuimstances and often controvertial events of the our world makes it hard to milk them for the lowest common denominator for the rest of eternity.

Marvel had known
creating grounded realistic characters who's motivations and personality are informed by the circumstances and often controvertial events of the our world
but during the mid 90ies to the 00ies it became lost knowledge to them. FFS they made Frank Castle a grounded realistic character when he guest-starred in few issues of Marvel's The 'Nam comic. Which had been completely segregated from the rest of Marvel universe up to that point.

43 minutes.

My Counter-Strike rotten brain parsed this as "they just shot Magneto with a Desert Eagle"

yes but the issue becomes how do you have the punisher who was a special forces dude in vietnam also still be killing drug dealers in current day new york city and interacting with the other street level super heroes marvel has since that would make him what 70? so youd constantly have to come up with new excuses why he still looks like hes 30-40, which is an issue that they have with magneto, but magneto interacts with reality shapers all the time (hell his own daughter is one) and he once was de aged to a baby and then reaged back up to be younger.

are we going to have to have baby frank?

so instead you simply make up a fake conflict that is vietnam in everything but name and that happened a decade ago.

you get all the grounding without having to also come up with non grounded reasons why a guy who just murders child molesters and gang members is also hanging out with a wizard whos making him younger or whatever hack reason they come up with

Yep. DC did the whole "Crisis on Infinite Earths" thing in the 80's to try and explain why their biggest cash cows had been around since the 50's and were very different now.

ETA: So I guess Marvel's Earth-666 vs. Earth-420-69 bullshit is a very late rip-off of the Distinguished Competition...

Simpsons did it!.png

Or you just make the character a period piece. Not everything has be modern fucking day.
but you cant, the punisher exists in the marvel universe, he teams up with daredevil, spiderman deadpool and moon knight

how can you square the circle that frank served in vietnam but also is going after the king pin with daredevil and spiderman without resorting to magic or just making him 70.

besides of course just inventing a conflict that is in all cases just the vietnam war again but happened about 10 years ago.

Simple: Don't have him team up with anachronistic colorful retards.

I cant find the comic thread, so Im putting it here.

But apparently marvel rivals is making people read comics, and apparently comic shops are being cleaned out.

if this fuckin game makes disney stop abusing marvel, and it rises from the ashes, and DC follows suit, I dont know what I will do with my life

Daredevil: Born Again trailer is out.

Looks great honestly and it's good to see the original casts are back together again. I don't see it in the trailer but I hope they don't sneak in the other MCU bullshit into this show. I want Daredevil, Punisher, and the rest of those TV shows from Netflix to be as detached as possible from the rest of the MCU.

If they are reading only the modern issues, they are going to be disappointed.

This same thing happened at the beginning of the Avengers movie arc. It was very short-lived as none of the movie heroes had analogs in comics at the time. Iron Man, Thor and Hawkeye were all women (or worse), Captain America was a Hydra agent, and I can't remember what was going on with Hulk, but ot wasn't good. Anyway, there were lots of stories from Nazi chud comic store owners of people coming in and asking for shit, and then leaving without buying anything when they found out what was going on in the comics.

Yeah, Marvel's terrible at capitalizing on surges of popularity like this. Instead of putting out quality comics on classic characters that people want, they'll just push Gay Nigger Man and Angry Lesbian Woman even harder.
