You know I feel bad for Falcon as a character. No, seriously.
Sam Wilson is a good character! First black American superhero, insists and is accepted fully by Cap as an equal partner, and outside the occasional shit retcon or dramatic plot twist is treated with respect by writers and treats others in-universe the same way. He's had good storylines and bits and his Falcon identity he not only made his own, not only has led to using the powers creatively, but even his costume has gotten some slick redesigns while keeping the classic iconography. Yeah, if he became Captain America in... any other period of time? I don't think comics fans or culture war retards alike would bitch. The dude legitimately earned the right to be Steve's successor and yes, I think his Cap uniform is actually pretty snazzy looking. And knowing because "comics!" Steve'll come back eventually, FalCap would be no worse a stint or concept like Iron Man Rhodes, Thunderstrike, Ben Reilly Spidey, and the like. And those are all characters who no one has an issue with taking up their mantles in case the actual mantle-holder is MIA or out of commission for a while.
The problem, then? He became Cap in the DEI Era. Like, it actually sucks seeing the character get forced into stupid shit like Falcon and the Winter Soldier and his lines being such obvious mouthpieces, or this current Cap movie coming up that's an obvious disaster in the making shoving in so much Hulk stuff and Captain Israel and failing to deal with the worst villain of all, Disney meddling. Falcon's a great character in the Cap mythos and him as Cap really should've been perfectly workable! And yet....
