So at this point I don't think he cares about pandering to China anymore. Same with Hollywood it seems like there's been less China pandering in general ever since 2021, I think.
Disney failed at it so miserably with Shang Chi, Mulan, and Star Wars that in general everyone has given up. It helps that China has had some big ass blockbusters of their own the last few years that while still not Hollywood level the gap is much smaller than it was during the 2010s. with shit like Wolf Warrior, Wandering Earth, Creation of Gods and now Twilight of the Warriors they're getting their own big shit these days and are fine waiting for the next Fast and Furious and another Avatar movie. they like Marvel movies and shit but just like everyone in the west the ones they've gotten the last few years have either sucked or had poor action so outside of even the pandering they don't care. they'll probably go nuts for Venom 3 this month though. Idk the numbers but I doubt they liked the last few transformers movies without the Bayisms because that's what attracted them.

It's very odd how China seems not to matter anymore when Hollywood was polishing that Beijing knob something fierce just a couple years ago. Doesn't China still own most of the theaters and movie studios here?

Anyway, as much as I hated the pandering, China was the only reason everything wasn't packed to the brim with trannies and interracial couples. Now that they're out of the picture I worry we're going to see an upswing in all that shit thanks to BlackedRock.

We all knew this was coming.

iirc by around 2010 or so Hollywood started noticed that it's hard to cash out from China, and that a hundred years of Hollywood Accounting was no match for three thousand years of Chinese Accounting

IIRC right before covid China changed some laws and now its both A. harder to get western films into china and B. the money isn't usually worth it. much like the silicon valley joke, china has way more freedoms than california does, especially when it comes to mocking shitty diverse films, and because of their free speech the people in charge of china make sure they don't have to experience another dogshit western superhero film. like i noticed back in 2019/2020 you could get a lot of china box office info and it showed their film industry was doing a lot better than ours, and now we don't allow china box office info because their film industry is still doing better than ours. like i think last year and honestly most of the 2020s china has had a majority of the highest grossing films in the world. their blockbusters routinely make more money than ours. like way more of their films last year grossed over 2 billion yuan than american films have.

If i had to guess, the hacks at Disney desperately wanted to have the new Blade movie be about him being an old miserable fuck that has to step down so a new unlikable girl would take the spotlight, but not even the most pozzed audiences wanted to see that, let alone Wesley Snipes.

No he's allowed to keep existing because he's black, just like Falcon and Nick Fury and War Machine. Only white men are problematic.

It would have been a Spike Lee movie.

iirc, that's supposedly one of the directions they tried to take the project, having it be more about Blade's daughter than Blade, but apparently Mahershala Ali went "lol no"

At this point they should just do a Midnight Sons movie. Have it feature Black Knight, Blade, Moon Knight, Werewolf by Night, and maybe Ghost Rider, then do a spin off for whatever characters the audience actually liked.

ngl he at least had the balls to acknowledge Taiwan as a country and distinct culture. Years ago I thought he was a Mainland simp or even an outright Chicom but this legit shocked me. Sort of big name actor just outright says 'Taiwan'.

Then again Shang-Chi didn't do so well at the Box Office in China and I think even Mainlanders called him ugly lmaoooo

As others have stated, China is effectively a closed market because of the CCP and on this issue, both the regular people and the government agree woke media like TLJ is garbage. Thus, most of Hollywood can't propagandize there because their market has spoken harder on woke propaganda. They let someone like Roland Emmerich or Michael Bay in because they make harmless, semi-pandering movies, but something like The Marvels? Just not in the Chinese market at all.* Also, Westerners tend to forget that China is an ancient civilization with its own cultural arts and thus, doesn't need Hollywood in the way America needs Hollywood.

*If I were a Chinese censor, I'd ban The Marvels because it's just a bad movie, and by extension most of Phase 4 and 5.

I think it's a bit unfair, it looks to me like black actors have even more stringent limitations than white actors. A good black father figure is virtually extinct in media, all blacks on cinema have the same approved body build and must support buck breaking.

Werewolf by Night is the most overlooked and best MCU spin-off. Think most people don't even remember it exists.

Mind you, being so obscure and easy to miss is probably what let the director get away with it being so weird in the first place.

the thing about China is a lot of their movie numbers are inflated as fuck, but because people are incentivized to go see Chinese made movies. I'm a huge fan of Chinese movies particularly Hong Kong and China destroyed their film industry because everything they make is overly censored CCP propaganda during the late 2000s early 2010s.

because of that during the 2010s with HK dead in the water China went ape shit for American imports over the current output of HK and mainland films. particularly Avatar, Transformers, Fast and Furious and superhero/Marvel movies. this is for multiple reasons, A) spectacle and Hollywood effects, B) it wasn't the same shit they've been getting shoved up their ass about the evils of the japanese and west/glory of the CCP/the heroes are aliens or people not rehases of their cultural mythology that survived the cultural revolution again and again and C) the mainland didn't make science fiction films. Literally at all.

essentially Hong Kong was the place for Chinese made cinema since the 1960s until somewhere around 2008/9 when the CCP restrictions got totally gay and then people went fuck this, they don't make good movies anymore, but these American movies kick ass. So for about a decade most of the money made off of our blockbusters came from China which they have more people so it makes sense. Hollywood took note and pandered but they're too stupid to do this right.

China took note of this and decided to step up mainland film production big time around 2016 by getting actual big budgets for their movies for the first time. they started campaigning to get people to see these instead and made it harder to get foreign films in at all even with their insane censorship practices.

you can see the difference over time in just looks by comparing 2016's League of Gods (their answer to Avengers) that looked like shit and the Chinese scoffed at, to last years Creation of Gods Part 1 which although totally different in tone and style is based on the same shit and looks pretty damn good for a Chinese movie. they stepped it up.

so now Hong Kong is still neutered and is never coming back to be the amazing film place it was, mainland China has pulled any of that talent still there to them to make propaganda films but with a real budget, and about things the Chinese audiences actually have interest in like sci fi, campaign to get them to watch them and so they do and essentially closed out the slots that used to be reserved for Hollywood films. Artistically China is still just pumping out propaganda garbage and no movies about anything, but for the first time in the mainland's history they're WELL MADE .

So now they have no need to screen any Hollywood shit they don't want to. Hollywood got the memo in 2020 when China told Disney to fuck itself with Shang Chi and Mulan (2 films made exclusively for their markets) so now they don't bother, and just wait for China to ask for what they want to get and censor and release there. The bad part of this is DEI shit will get pushed harder in blockbusters because with China no longer needing as many from Hollywood, they no longer will just keep doing the bare minimum so they can cut 2 minutes and release it there and that shit will continue to become more in the forefront until the dam breaks in the west and people really turn on it here.

On the subject of the Marvels a Chinese pirate site I get their movies on sometimes I looked at the comments on the Marvels when people subbed it in Mandarin a couple years ago and Google translated a comment and it said "disgusting little ugly woman type film" and I never forgot that because I cracked the fuck up at it.

to round out my chinaposting I'm not saying there have never been and they don't make some good mainland Chinese movies, but their censorship is so insane and the CCP is so dick deep into the process that most movies made there straight up are just about fighting the japs or the west, and it's all patriotic CHINA IS THE BEST! shit so a lot of it is extremely repetitive you've seen one you've seen it all movies, and they can't have sex or a lot of blood/gore (with exceptions humorously enough if the gore is Japanese people they usually let it go. they'll accept Hollywood R rated WW2 movies with little cuts if it's japs getting blown up lol) so their movies have this weird shallow/fakeness to them.

contrast this with the Hong Kong films of the 60s - Late 90s/Early 00s when it was a British colony they could do whatever they wanted, and also had Chinese esque labor laws so they could pump shit out and make them dangerously as fuck and they came out as a totally unique type of movie and were allowed to be about political things or whatever else. After the handover in 99 the CCP essentially laid off of the HK film industry for a long time and they had about a decade to keep doing what they did.

all of those years, mainlanders basically waited to see when HK films got censored and released because they knew their film industry sucked balls. then their government got involved with the HK side of things and started meddling and making the same garbage over there.

I watched this happen in real time because I used to regular a mall kiosk with bootleg Asian movies back in the day and after Taiwan came swinging with Crouching Tiger we had a good few years of cool artsy Wuxia out of Hong Kong after the new wave of the 90s. Stuff like hero, curse of the golden flower, whatever. then around 2010 I started to notice we stopped getting stuff like that, or ultraviolent cops vs triad movies and we started getting these CGI fuck fests of Jet Li with giant snakes or dragons and shit with no actual sets and the cop and gangster movies stopped having gore and at the time I remember thinking like why do all these new Chinese movies suck now?

and the CGI was ATROCIOUS it was like 2011 and I was seeing shit that made Tron and Last Star Fighter look like Avatar. the few good movies that slipped through like Donnie Yens first two Ip Man movies signaled to me the beginning of the 'every villain is western or Japanese' trend and that's continued ever since. then all of the actors and directors I liked from HK started going over to the mainland and making total shit. I was like what the fuck is going on? eventually over time it started to make sense to me the more I looked into it and by 2012/13 with the rare exception I pretty much wrote off the Chinese film industry.

That being said the last 3/4 years they still have those problems but the production values have went way the fuck up and they're improving. because they have no artistic freedom they're never going to be what they used to but at least the mainland studio system finally figured out how to make watchable entertainment, and learned to venture outside their comfort zone in genre so there is finally some variety coming out of there, and that's why their box office is going to keep rising it's all new to those people.

I want to see an Old Man Blade movie with Snipes and a vampire apocalypse setting, but we all know that's too cool and badass to actually happen.
An actually cool movie featuring Blade, no what they probably wanted was something like: "We need to stuff as much unnecessary multiverse garbage and boring unnecessary additions to this film as possible. We need to add a young hero character to this film that the audience won’t care for and will be the real main character while Blade waves from the back.”

I hear part of the reason it's was held up was that Marvel was planning on turning Blade into Marvel's Buffy, focusing Blade's daughter for cryin' out loud. It's been implied however that Mahershala Ali was insistent the film focus on Blade, you know the title character.
