Who do you think this director was??
It depends, he claims he was a prominent Oscar winner. That's kind of a short list, that's just like Guillermo Del Toro and Ang Lee. Both of those would fit in the timeframe that I would expect him to even be offered such a role as well. I can't imagine who he could have been in Blade 2, so maybe he was offered the role of Bruce Banner for Hulk?

The only *MCU* director that has an Oscar is that chick who did Eternals I think.

Edit: It could always be Singer and the article just mistook him as being an Oscar winner with all the other awards he has received.

Ryan Coogler has also won an award for best director (albeit after Black Panther). Joe Johnston and Kenneth Branagh have won Oscars, but not for directing (sfx and writing, respectively).

I can't think of any other non-MCU directors that would have won hardware, and couldn't come up with much else.
Edit: removed redundant bit.

Wife wanted to watch Ant-Man 3, couldn't talk her out of it. Man, that was painful to sit through.

Did she laugh at Modoc?
It's hard not to laugh at MODOK. How did they ever think this was a good idea? The only reason it could have worked was in a Gwenpool (I can hope) movie where he wouldn't even be out of place looking like that, being that cringe-inducingly awful.

I fear you have mispronounced "Nextwave movie please."

So just came back from Guardians 3, it's out in the UK already. I will be frank I walked out of this film. I have only walked out 3 films in my life and Pirates of the Caribbean 3 was one of those. The film is awful for a multitude of reasons.

First off this film is a PG-13 in the UK which is basically a PG. I am frankly disturbed at how this is a PG because if I was taking my nephews there, I would have been pissed. The amount of torture of animals in this film is horrific, it's not like Watership Down but for the 1 hour, 30 minutes about 50 minutes is animal torture. It relishes it too, there are burns and wounds and decapitations with cremation throughout. I am rarely if ever disturbed, I grew up on Alien and South Park but it was horrible. The horrible part ironically that got me it kept showing scenes of Rocket incapacitated, gasping/ struggling to breathe, a lot. It was honestly like an entry zoosadist made this film. Polygon actually made a breakdown;

You know - for kids lol

Acting, the acting in this film is BAD like awful the only saving grace really is Chukwudi Iwuji who has to be associated now with animal torture. His agent was pissed because they did not know the extent but so much so he had to have a piece released. Ironically he would have been a great Kang tbh. The others really feel like they don't want to be there and Chris Pratt goes from tough to mopey constantly. The Warlock actor is terrible.

Script - The script for this film is appalling and how this was the final one, is shocking. The dialogue is so wooden and one dimensional. There is nothing to really say, there is a scene where Chris Pratt says fuck, that is just edgy. Class marvel tropes too and it is full of them. They turn Warlock into a himbo.

Finally and this is the greatest sin - editing - The editing is schizophrenic, it keeps going from present to past every 10 minutes. Even during set pieces, there was this moment in a ship where they needed something and it goes into a flashback twice. It abuses songs that just don't need to be there purely for member berries. The CGI in this film is very inconsistent too and in some moments looks like ass. The film is so fucking bloated that it just goes on and on and every 10 minutes you get a lovely animal torture scene. The film itself just isn't fun and is so tonally gone from its predecessors, that it may well be a different film.

The propaganda in this film too is awful, Warlock is pretty much gay and it shoehorns in scenes of faggotory. Mantis has a running joke of forcing men to be "madly in love" with Drax. What is great though Batista is clearly uncomfortable with it, he acts it but it looks a bit too real, the guy is like 400 lbs too so lovely. They don't edit his expression.

The film is a mess but the Marvel shills are in hyperdrive atm

Now that's ironic since Dave Bautista has made a big deal of his mom being a lesbian for progressive points.

I didn't even think it was possible for it to be bad. I guess Gunn is either really petty and sabotaged the whole project or he got bodysnatched by Cronenberg.

Was gonna say this. Sounds more like a deliberate sabotage than anything. Well that, or he's a zoosadist and you will enjoy his fetish.

I am somewhat disappointed but in hindsight, I am not surprised. The thing that surprises me outside of Twitter is the hellscape it is most reviewers are not really digging it. Except of course fucking Grace Randolph, you could take a shit in front of her and she'd be clapping like a seel for hours. Honestly, there are a lot of caged scenes including kids at the end, I have not seen it because I was gone but people have said.

For me though like I said editing and tone, the movie is a slog like when I walked out there was 1 hour left, and at that point they were on the final act. No final act should last one hour, I don't even think ROTK did. That was 45 minutes cinema release but with epilogue.
