Major update:

TLDR his psycho attorneys are going full tilt into blaming the victim and are now playing the race card too. Disney allegedly just trying to wait for all this to blow over lest he sues them?
Hopefully he sues and gets a billion dollar out of Disney, who did an extra draconian contract without thinking it can backfire.

Wasn't the whole hook for GotG 3 is that Thor is part of the team and then Thor 4 fucked it up?
Deadline.com has reported that GotG 3 is tracking for a $130 million opening. This would have to improve if Marvel can step up marketing, which to date has just been "see these beloved characters like uh, the tree...one last time."

It's not even the bones of a story, it's just "hey, kids, superheroes!" Of all the Marvel franchises this one may be the most generic, practically a CBS sitcom sandwiched by layers of FX. Gunn has the "uh, so that happened" writerspeak disease even worse than OGs like Whedon, etc. He's awfully fond of having a big dramatic moment and then immediately undercutting it with some "zany" lines.

Between with what's happening with this and with Majors Marvel can't catch a break, and if Guardians 3 does worse than its last outing, it will be a long, torturous (for Marvel) wait until Marvels with it's three incredibly unlikable main characters is released to be the next probable disaster.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 was the last MCU film I watched, and I'd say I got off the train before it derailed. I would be surprised if this third GotG film didn't do well financially or critically considering that it's the only group left in the franchise that has the original actors and characters people like.
I dipped out after Thanos killed half the cast. That was a satisfying and sensical ending. For Gotg3 all the ads say "written and directed by James Gunn!!!" maybe because he's in the news for DC. It's sad how people still have this MCU shit on their menu--yet when they keep ordering more servings, who is to blame for the cooks churning it out?

People only know of and believe they like Gunn because of the Guardians movies. As much as Warner Bros. is trying to astroturf his alleged popularity, his only DC project to date was a massive flop.

Don’t know why they think this is the best idea in this day and age. Marvel and Disney have garnered a fan base that would screech and be turned off if anyone who is merely accused of sexual harassment is casted.

I found it insane he called his movie The Suicide Squad. All it did was get people to confuse it with Suicide Squad when Task Force X is a perfectly acceptable alternate title.

People take for granted how much the original MCU cast made the films, who, at best, have serviceable plot and action.

@Chaotic Pizzaparty

"I think too there is no star power in this film which may make it a bomb, star power still makes money and this film does not really have any."

That's all on them then. Chris Pratt definitely has the presence to be a proper star. But ever since he's made it clear he's not ashamed of being Christian they have constantly tried to sideline him while choking every last sheckle they can out of him.

No, Suicide Squad is a recognizable brand, people would just scratch their heads at Task Force X. That'd be like calling an X-Men movie, "Charles Xavier's School For Gifted Youngsters".

I agree that calling it The Suicide Squad was retarded though, should have called Suicide Squad: Back For More or some other "funny" subtitle. Same thing with The Batman.
Love and Thunder was the most underwhelming Marvel flick I've watched in years. You could tell only a few people involved actually gave a fuck. If this is the last we see of Taika then good riddance IMO.
I dunno why people only started seeing Waititi as a hack after Love and Thunder, Thor: Ragnarok was also total fucking garbage and was where all semblance of trying to make Thor anything other than a joke went out of the window.

Thank you, when I was still a faggot invested in this, Ragnarok was constantly taking me out of the movie by undermining every single moment as constantly as it could. That a scene can never left to just run it's course without jamming in "witty" dialogue is one of the bigger scenes from the medium.

I knew I'm not the only one who felt this. It has very few good moments, & almost no re-watch potential after maybe twice. Mind you, I saw this shit in theaters & felt that.

I hated Ragnarok more than any MCU film (that I watched). Previous Thor films weren't very good, but were pretty unique in design and took themselves somewhat seriously. Ragnarok was like the film version of a Ubisoft game - uninspired and enjoyable only due to appealing to the lowest common denominator.
I think the thing that most annoyed me is how the event of Ragnarok is glossed over despite being the most critical thing in any depiction of Norse myth. "LOL just be refugees", like fuck you you rootless cosmopolitan.

It has its moments and I think Hela is a better/more entertaining antagonist than Gorr (thanks for that, Taika) but yeah it gets less and less engaging with each viewing. You can only lean so hard into the comedic angle without diluting the dramatic bits and Ragnarok definitely didn't manage its tone correctly. Guardians 2 almost fell into this trap, but unlike Ragnarok the only crime it's guilty of is loving some of its own jokes too much. The emotional core of the movie is rock solid regardless of the somewhat overbearing comedy.

Hela is yet another shitty villain who uses an army of zombie mooks when she could’ve been a lot more compelling. Like they literally set up the idea that Hela was sealed away by Odin for wanting to continue Asgardian conquest, as opposed to him settling for just the nine realms. Instead of yet another mindless army, Hela should have instigated a full-on Asgardian civil war between Odin loyalists and those who wanted to return to the good ol’ days of planetary conquest.
