Mad Catz, a company known for it's gaming peripherals since 1989 has closed it's doors effective March 30th 2017.

Many gamers may remember them from the 90's with poor quality controllers but would later make a comeback (at least somewhat) with gaming mice and with the acquisition of Saitek, keyboards and flightsticks in the mid 2000's before Saitek was sold to Logitech in 2016. Today they're mostly known for their gaming mice (problems with the R.A.T series having disconnecting problems due to either faulty USB cords or a bad laser are common place with older customer reviews) and their fight sticks which often used some of the best components for the joystick itself and the buttons and are a common place in fighting game tournaments.

It's too bad the quality of their arcade sticks never translated over to the rest of their products. (Probably because they were just boxes filled with Sanwa parts, but still.) I'm a Hori guy but you have to respect the impact the TE had on the fighting game scene making sticks with arcade-quality parts reasonably affordable.

That's a shame. My PS3 TE Stick is a dream to play fighters with, but it is basically just arcade parts in a fancy box. Their fightpads weren't too bad if you're into that kind of thing either.

I guess this means I'll need to look at the HRAP for when I finally decide to get a PS4 stick.

I had a Mad Katz steering wheel for the N64 when I was a kid. I had no idea (or reason to assume) that company survived past the 90's, damn.

Seems that their bid to enter the non-cheap controller market with this $300 abomination didn't work. They deserve it though.

To be honest, I only used their shit half the time because I have long fucking fingers. Their PS2 controllers were always so fucking big.

I had a R.A.T5 MMO Gaming mouse from them. Had good weight to it and it was hard to get sweaty palms while long gaming sessions with it, but like many people I had disconnecting problems with the mouse.

Their peripherals were flimsy pieces of shit anyways, good riddance.

Not all of them. Their arcade sticks were some of the best ones out there. The rest...Well you had to pray you got something that wasn't trash after three months.

Chances are good they outsourced all of their parts to India because they couldn't afford China or Mexico manufactures.

I had (probably still have somewhere in storage at my parents') their FPS stick/trackball pile for the Dreamcast. I got it when DC was dead and everything was a couple of bucks at the most.

I only used it for the Gundam game on there but it allowed move and aim at the same time which the amazingly shit DC standard controller didn't.
