Society is pillared by groups, organizations, industries, and the like - man is a social creature, and the needs and outputs of the Whole are generally more significant than those of the Individual. This gives way to groups that make an effort to downplay situations if one of their members may happen to be quite terrible as an individual; it could be to save face, it could be because that member otherwise holds enough merit that outweighs the severity of whatever deed has been done, or it could simply be that every other piece of the group has their own skeletons they want to keep hidden. The only time you ever really see apathy towards the act and its practice is when people are covering up for it in a given community, usually for keeping other people in certain positions of authority or relevance, and I'm sure there's a whole finer, psychological aspect that goes a little bit beyond "People are fucking retarded" to explain that trend, but I'm not qualified or knowledgeable enough to elaborate further in that respect.
You can see it whenever the US military has some tragic accident or murder and tries to downplay it, like with Pat Tillman, or countless other incidents that happened across bases. It can be seen with police officers and all their associated unions that tend to minimize any punishment they ought to get after the millionth police brutality incident. And on a more relevant note, it can be seen furthermore within people like Epstein or Diddy, who were vile fucking scum to have done as much as they did, but because of how embedded they were in a greater network and the patronage they offered, they were turned a blind eye to for far longer than they should have, even during initial investigations. Certainly, there are a great many more examples, but this conveys the idea.
That which is above is like that which is below, and that which is below is like that which is above - such as it is, these scattered instances of worthless online fucks that want to cover their tracks and cry about how they're not actually pedos are merely smaller reflections of grander circles across society, systems that might not ever personally intersect yet remain analogous with each other. That complicitness with evil is thus the answer of an Individual to the question of how much they are willing to compromise in personal virtue and morality so as to continue associating with or contributing toward any given group - or, what manner of wrong one is willing to overlook. Perhaps some are blind to that kind of inner judgement, and are only able to measure it based off of what, to them, is beneficial and detrimental.
It is admirable of any group, then, to be vigilant and swift in cleaning out its own trash. It might be true that everyone is a sinner, but God knows there are some that are far more drenched in sin than the rest, and verily, might as well be considered Evil.
