Marine Le Pen was today facing up to three years in prison after being charged with tweeting 'monstrous' Islamic State images including one of the terrorist group beheading an American journalist.
The 49-year-old leader of France's far-Right National Front has denied any wrongdoing, but now faces trial in the Paris suburb of Nanterre.
Beyond the three-years in prison, prosecutors can also demand a maximum fine equivalent to £67,000.
It's pretty obvious that this is meant to shut her down politically, but it's factually wrong to say she is put to trial for criticising ISIS, no matter how you twist or turn it.
I happen to know you get a harsher sentence in Austria for denying the Holocaust than you get for rape, so I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case in France as well.
If that's the case, I wonder how their media are constantly getting away with calling ISIS terrorists.
It's political assassination that uses tweets with gory images as an excuse.
Le Pen could have been accused of jaywalking for all it matters.
I think this is really what @RomanesEuntDomus is trying to say. They're trying to torpedo Le Pen's career because we don't dare criticize poor muslims. You're only allowed to comment about Isis if you've got Mahmoud's dick in your mouth while you do it to prove your progressivism.
Their motivations are "removing popular populist from being an eligible presidential candidate." Politicians don't give a shit about anything else than getting votes and hindering the competition. It's literally the same bullshit as Russian collusion, FBI papers, birth certificate, "swift boat veterans for truth" and so forth.

Showing terrorism is different than merely talking about it. You can nominally complain about terrorism, just to seem like you're covering all angles. Actually showing the effects of it brings the discussion to center stage though.
No, but it is to protect the narrative of Islamic extremism as not being a big deal. Whatever the motivations, that's its intended effect. It's coddling Islam, the one religion in the world that needs it least.
I'm sure the French will think this is a wonderful idea until she ends up dictating a book about her struggles that becomes a best seller while she's in prison.
