La Palma is rumbling - What are the implications of a 40 foot Tsunami along the east coast?

Last night (Canary Islands local time) the volcano was extremely active, according to local residents from Los Llanos de Aridane. S/A

They say the buildings have vibrated throughout the night and they complain about the lack of information.

arent their dozens of things that could happen that could kill us all within the next 10,000 years. increasing the chance for at least one of those to happen?

Thats ridiculous, a mass of area the size of that flank would absolutely make big problems for us on the east coast. You are talking about an area half the size of rhode island falling into the ocean at 200mph. Its unlikely but that doesn't mean impossible...as its happened many many times since the islands emerged. anything over a 6 foot wave would cause immense damage to low lying area's of Florida and along the chesapeake. It only needs to 6 foot or so to be history. It would likely be 15 or 20 feet.

Nobody is losing any sleep over it except maybe the /pol who is jizzing on lava rocks and making anime idols but it bears monitering. Imagine thinking we don't live in wierd times after 2016

The lava has dug itself a little channel now, so i'm guessing that will be flowing very fast, or faster than it has been going.

Not sure what's happened but it's just ramped up how much it is squirting out. Lava flow seems to be glowing more as well. This could be another fun night.

He deserves the attention in my opinion. He's definitely somebody that I would listen to when it comes to anything just for his demeanor and way of speaking. Other than him, I've been getting La Palma updates from Geology Hub.
 
Bushcraft Bear’s latest. Which is a bit depressing. Also check the comments. He said they got hit with a 4.3 just as he uploaded it.
 
I've been watching the TV Canarias live stream which is incredible. The live chat is nearly as incredible with a mix of religious fanatics and euphoric atheists.
