La Palma is rumbling - What are the implications of a 40 foot Tsunami along the east coast?

You just know some woonatics are going to get on that bandwagon. “We only eat volcano-infused bananas from the island of La Palma!” Oh well, at least the farmers will make money.

It looks like the new lava flow is actually hitting the land created by the 1949 eruption. Interesting.

There have been 92 earthquakes in the past 24 hours, the largest was 4.3M represented by the largest red circle on the right.
(Yellow: current eruption. Blue: 1949 eruption)

I’m not sure if this dude is a crazy earthquake obsessed autist, or actually knowledgeable in the field. From his delivery it’s a little hard to judge. But he seems to postulate that the big 4.3 is no volcano related, but the expected chaining/fluid action following the deep earthquake near Greece a few days ago.

Thanks @T0oCoolFool @BoobWhiskers

Really amazing screenshots from the live (it doesn’t even look real!)

He appears to have created his own 3d earthquake viewer. Between that and this post on his site about 'hotspots' showing up on near infrared satellites around the New Madrid Fault before an earthquake yesterday, I'm going with nuttier than squirrel shit.

@RodgerDodger Thank you for introducing me to Bushcraft, I'm going to have to binge watch more of him later on. Hope he's taking precautions; I imagine inhaling air sprinkled with volcanic ash isn't good for your lungs...

Here's hoping La Palma gets out of this relatively unscathed and bounces back. I'd love to try their volcano-infused bananas.

Tfw Baltimore gets wiped out, but so does Ocean City (and the rest of Fenwick island). That place doesn't stand a chance with it being less than 10ft above sea level.

IIRC, the only way in and out is MD-50; I can't imagine how fucked everyone would be if this happened at the peak of tourist season and everything went tits-up with the worst case scenario.
He's looking a little rougher and more stressed tonight. I think it's getting to him. Have any of the residents had a good nights sleep in weeks?

Dutch is an amatuer but he can be pretty knowledgeable at times but at the end of the day he is no different than frankie and wrong most of the time

Atleast frankie has action figures

I'm pretty sure Volcanos' are one of those things that you are never ever really prepared for. I spent a substantial portion of my life involved in County and Regional Disaster Planning for a Coastal region in Hurricane Alley, with a Nuclear Power Plant and a Government Mad Scientist Dr Manhattan type Nuclear Research Facility with breeder reactors and cyclotrons and shit. Oh and just to add to the potential for horror, We had Plumb Island sitting within rowboat range. So we literally planned for everything up to and including an actual radioactive anthrax fueled zombie apocalypse. You could plan around Zombies. But Volcanos? On an Island? "Yep! We're Fucked!" We had a fun game of looking at News stories and speculating a plan in our neck of the woods. We tried to map table Montserrat. My buddy was a NOA Oceanographer who's research ship was the last boat to evacuate people off the island. I got some of the photos and footage he took of the end. The only viable plan we had was to "bend down, grab your ankles and turn your asshole to face the volcano."

This is rather alarming. It looks like it has breached the cone and has a wide lake of laval flowing down someplace

It's ace how the smoke obscures the view and you can still see the Lava as if you're watching in predator vision
Yeah, these lava flows really made clear how much they pump up the exposure for visibility; was just a solid yellow mass kind of blown out at the edges for a while there. Wierd stuff.

That volcano has gotten really big in just 3 weeks. It literally started off as a swimming pool size ditch now its easily 50 stories high judging by the cedar trees..tho ill admit the angle maybe an illusion its grown impressively

Autist. He's a tree trimmer by day but has been working on his EQ flow theories for a decade+ and is more accurate regarding general location and magnitude than not. He is not a volcano guy and will tell you that. I find him interesting and entertaining, but always take him with several grains of salt.

Did someone dump some Pop Rocks in the volcano? It seems extra sassy tonight.
New lava stream is really moving on along.

It looks very computer gamey. Like a panoramic shot of the last boss' lair

The lava stream running down the cone that forms a /|\ pattern, looks like an arrow pointing to the entrance of the super secret volcano hide-out. very cool.

02:38 Am: I don't know what just happened but lava has started pissing down the hill at a good rate, it looks like there are two vents and a hole in the side of the cone that has started a new lava stream.

Yes there are two vents, you can see them popping off at different times. Lava spewing down the cone now at an incredible rate (02:40am)

Man, it really is just going every which way now, isn't it? Where it started pouring out of doesn't look anywhere near where it's been venting, which assumedly means it punched a new hole through one of the walls... and given that it was two overflows last night and all of this tonight, it sure does seem like the structural integrity of the thing is kind of weakening. I know it's all a big pile of earth vomit to begin with and isn't exactly built to contain the lava or anything, but kind of makes you wonder if it'll all just crumple in sooner or later. It's not like there's really any forces on it cooling it solid other than just the fact that literally anything is cooler than what's inside it.
