We just had some 4.0 earthquakes also
I dunno what the benchmark would be to actively start worrying about the mountain sliding into the ocean and a fuck huge wave, but considering Mount Saint Helens went off at a 5.1, and these quakes seem to be getting stronger as they go?

Yeah all of a sudden I'm glad I live way the fuck away from the ocean. Sure, any waves crossing the Atlantic will probably lose a lot of potential deadliness, but if the quakes keep getting stronger, I'd say gtfo and don't look back.

The trend is not your friend, yes they are getting stronger and I am still waiting that faultline for a new volcano. The earthquakes are all south of the current volcano

This chicks reaction and impressions are interesting. Apparently she is a "Volcano hunter" traveling around photographing active volcanos. So she's seen a number of erruptions. This one freaks her out. Most interesting is when she starts talking about the noise. Bushcraft Bear has been saying similar things. The noises are what is really freaking people out.

sorry phone kept pasting wrong url

I'm loving the rumours that Facebook and whatsapp was taken down because there's a mega-event predicted to happen and nobody wants the plebs to know/panic.

It's a load of old bollox, but it's funny.

You know how i know thats bullshit?

The stream's are still up.

Facebook is down because all the competent people who built it left a decade ago and likely nobody knows how to actually get it back up. Give a few weeks and im sure some outside consultant will restore it for tens of millions of dollars

Employee's cant even get in the building or log on to their computers because the badge is linked to their facebook profile accounts lmao

like they built a massive empire on sand and didn't bother pouring concrete

We could only be so lucky if old tech's demise was because the subpar techies ran out of rubber bands and chewing gum. Alas, I'm pretty sure the AI that pulls Zuckerberg's draw string will adapt out of this and any situation.

In an era where adding useless things like thousands of emoji's to a messenging platform got you a six figure job, nobody bothered to upgrade the infrastructure.

Why are there people there? At the first sign of activity, I would've noped the fuck out.
"It won't happen to me." When it comes to potential massive disasters the tendency is to favor nothing happening, because generally that's a safe bet. Last time this volcano erupted was something like 50 years ago and besides property damage people survived and life continued on the island relatively unabated.

Fleeing is a hassle and no one wants to feel like they spent a fuckton of money or time running from what eventually amounted to a nothing burger.

as for lack of nuclear disaster prep possibly being a bong thing: this might have to do with the history of anti-nuclear protests in the UK, which were either immediately infiltrated or originally created by the Communist Party of Britain, which was under direct Soviet control. Either way the anti-nuclear protests were directly run from Moscow as part of the USSR's very effective strategy of co-opting antiwar socialists for international revolution and undermining the West. One of the purposes British antinuclear activists were used for was smearing the concept of preparation for nuclear war and this got associated with nuclear power plants.

it's instructive to compare the situation in France, where the national CP retained significantly more independence from Moscow during the Cold War, and where the concept of nuclear power is deeply integrated into how French kids are taught to be French. I don't know anything about how people living around French nuclear power plants are prepared for disasters but if we have any frogs who know I am really curious.

also it's not suprising that Spanish officials are telling people to go to the Canaries and party because Spanish people are stupid.

Interesting take.

I remember reading an article about why The Stranglers would not play Glastonbury festival and it was because they supported or were sponsored by CND. Remember CND? Yeah you do!

Anyway, it turn out that CND is actually some commie funded russian subversion scheme to get the UK to get rid of all its nukes (unitlateral multilateral) so the ruskies can get stronger.

Not sure if it's true, but there you go.

My step dad is a real trot and he goes fucking ballistic at the talk of even considering nuclear for power.

We are all indoctrinated differently it would seem.

Nuclear is ok. It's probably even necessary at some point. Just make sure it's safe. Thorium and all that. Fusion, yeah, that might be nice!

The difference between me and them is I know I don't know what the fuck I'm talking about, but they, they are fucking experts in it all.

Interesting aside: JJ Burnel who is the head man of The Stranglers is a fucking Frog!

Jean Jacques kind of gives the game away. Don't fuck with him though - he's a 7th Dan in Karate!

He runs his own Dojo in London, when he's not growing his own grapes in the South of France.

I kind of like him.

Listen to me you little shit-fucker. You haven't heard anything yet.

They've been erasing all the Stranglers videos off of youtube, because muh sexism. But I found 'em!

What a fucking shit lord!

But never mind all that. This is where it's at!

I may have gone ever so slightly off thread, granted, and for that I apologize.

yeah other than hurricanes is there a natural disaster that people regularly evacute for? I prematurely evacuated for a wildfire recently that was very close to my city but did not torch it and I got epic quantities of shit for doing so. I still think everyone who stayed in town was crazy and I'll still fuck off and have an enforced vacation rather than risk dying in a firestorm on the highway but most people don't think like that
