How long before think pieces like the Mary Sue start writing articles about this film and how it enables toxic right-wing behavior or something like that?

EDITED: Ninja'd. It's still funny tho, considering the Joker attacks everyone by equal. Where they get the idea that he only kills brown muslim trannies or something like that?

The trailer is awesome. Completely exceeded my expectations.

I like that DC is going for something entirely different. I don't need DC to be the MCU. I just want some good fuckin' movies, and some variety. I love how "small" this movie feels so far. It ain't about the end of the world; it's about a single man's descent into madness.

Even if this movie turns out to be a failure, it'll be an admirable failure. Hopefully DC's risk of doing a movie like this is going to pay off.

Looks cool as fuck, I was one of the people pretty psyched for this when they announced it and it looks even better than I imagined it would. "Serious" without being edgy, a unique Joker without just biting off the Ledger portrayal.

I'd be very surprised if this was ended up sucking.

Also Paperboi and Van from Atlanta are in it, so bonus points.

If it sucks, then at least it has the right to say that it tried. It looks unique and refreshing and I dig the 70's vibes from it.

Exactly. I don't mind things getting a little dark. There's a difference between dark and "Zack Snyder Edgelord" dark.

Ultimately, the movie has to be interesting. People have been mocking the DCEU's "darkness" over the past handful of years because the "darkness" was all aesthetic and zero substance. The same people who have mocked Zack Snyder (myself included) over the years are praising this trailer.

Whoever came up with the "Snyder thinks of scenes he wants to do and works stories around getting there" nailed it.

Interesting, for sure, but prepare yourselves for we face at least six months of tedious hot takes like this

I wonder what they would say if the Black Adam movie, with Dwayne Johnson as the titular character, is ever made.

I'm going to love this film to pieces, especially if it pisses off the Disney Dollar Drones and NPC's who never actually watch anything resembling a 'movie' or 'television show'. Joaquin Phoenix is going to have plenty of notable unscripted events throughout the whole act, I bet. It'll be glorious.

I think I'm going to end up pretending this is the only Batman-related film that has come out since the Dark Knight Rises.

Damn they nailed it with that trailer, i'm actually felling hype for something about a character i have been burned out of seeing him so often, hopefully it will be as good as it looks so far

Some people don't deserve to either have an opinion or at least to shut the hell up if they are going to be reeetarded (yeah i admit i got mad on the internet but i was feeling good then they say shit like that then it's hard to say calm when they spoil the good mood i just started to have). Seriously i have huge hopes that Shazam and Joker are good, it could then potentially finally pull DC from Hack Snyder empty style.
And related to the post about when Jack Napier first came up it's wrong, Tim Burton's batman was '89 yet the Killing Joke was '88

The beauty of well written Joker stories is that it's hinted at that he has different origins, so honestly any of them used for any adaptation can be valid. Basing him slightly on John Wayne Gacy also makes a crapload of sense, since he unfortunately popularized the killer clown thing. (Which, I mean, yeah, they're going for the R rating here.)

I think anything can work as long as they keep it as a stand-alone film and don't push more Easter eggs/cinematic universe nonsense.

I dunno, is this false hope? I just want something else besides "quirky one-liners and woke messages" in my capeshit.

The Keaton movie showed us a Joker origin but it was hokey. This looks like it could be the catalyst for more villain origin movies. That Black Adam movie seems to be the next one up if it ever gets made.
