The packaging is similar. The pallette itself is different. The colours aren't similar.

Also, that particular alien head shape was a very popular design element during the 90s, so it’s completely possible that two different companies riding a 90s nostalgia wave could use it, independent of one another.

JS announced this morning that he received a privacy complaint for this video:

The timing of the video given in the YouTube complaint apparently corresponds to a time point in which JS shows a screenshots of a public comment of a user basically calling him a gross faggot

Normally I hate when YouTubers read "hate" comments cause they never pick the actual hard hitting comments or it's just a sympathy train but I can accept it here for the idiot who just realised someone might read their online comments. Gasp, what a novel concept

Jeffree Star/Morphe collaboration that took 3 years to make:

This at best coincidence isn't a very good look as Morphe had been dodging rumours that they private label all their products to begin with (they at the very least used to and likely still do for the rest of their brushes through crown brushes). I'm curious to see if anyone reviews Jeffree's compared with the private labeling brand that creates diamond brushes

The Morphe brushes are made of animal hair, something I don't care about, but Jeffree and Morphe were both cruelty free brands until now and it's really weird as a business choice to turn away your vegan and people strongly against animal cruelty. Also Jeffree himself shit only Kylie Cosmetics for her animal hair brushes and talked down about animal brushes in the review (while creating these brushes). My guess with Morphe is they're gearing up to sell to China where they'll lose their cruelty-free status anyways but still, a bit odd.

Oh, the kicker? This three year development supposedly has only lead to a limited release. I'm guessing this is a lie to get more idiots to buy it because who the fuck spends three years to make a product only on the shelves for a limited amount of time? Unless the creation stalled and they gave up, private labeled some pink diamond brushes, didn't even consistently colour them, and shoved them out for a limit release to recoup the costs. Oh, there's also pink Morphe sponges that even according to Jeffree are just the regular sponges dyed pink
No news yet on the charity these are supposed to be supporting like Jeffree was saying. He originally claimed his entire cut was going to charity like with his Jouer collaboration but no mention of it at launch. Maybe closer to the release date it will come out, or it's being mentioned on one of Jeffree's other million social media accounts

Word is that it's going to be a mix of synthetic and natural fibers for the brushes. Interestingly enough, companies can still maintain a cruelty-free status while manufacturing natural fiber brushes as long as they're not testing on animals. However, the brushes would definitely not be vegan.

Part of me is surprised by JS using the natural fibers for these brushes since since they would have undoubtedly come from the fur industry. Until now he's been very staunchly vegan with his products, everything fake fur and carefully formulated. He's even talked about how hard it is to make vegan purple eyeshadow shades. Another part of me wonders if this wasn't some quality issue, where after multiple years of trying they couldn't get the brush texture he wanted without using animal fur.

As for gearing up to do trade in China, I'm not sure about that given the current political climate. It would be a really out there move.

Youtuber Pretty Pastel Please recently did a video comparing the Aliexpress brushes to Jeffree's.
Can't link the video atm but if you search for it she's easy to find.

Decent video but like most people she didn't link to the seller so we don't know if she actually got the originals or some cheap recreation of the original when it got popular (there are hundreds of sellers with this style of brush, some better than others). It's like finding fake Makeup Revolution makeup and doing a review on that compared with the people MUR copied instead of comparing with the actual MUR dupe. It's actually how many YouTubers will make it seem like all fakes of their makeup are beyond terrible, they'll buy a knockoff from a seller who is known for having really terrible quality instead of comparing it to a seller with good reviews
All we got is her pretty much saying that if you buy AliExpress brushes you'll probably get decent enough ones for someone who doesn't need super high quality brushes which I think most people know and those who don't buy Morphe for almost the same quality at a higher price
Either way I'm pretty sure no one thinks Morphe is actually selling those brushes, just that they copied them. Jeffree has been on AliExpress and Wish before so there's no way he's never seen them. I think Morphe had also stopped doing private labeling (and crown brushes don't sell that kind of brush regardless) but I could be wrong or potentially they private label through someone else now

I'm a filthy carnist and I prefer to use brushes with animal hair (goat or horse hair), because
even the most high-end of "vegan" brushes were really hard for my face.

Also, I'd prefer to buy the aliexpress version. As I said before, Jeffree took his idea for the celestial highlighters from aliexpress. So...

Edit: I found some similar brushes on Ali

It's all cheap plastic crap that is absurdly overpriced. No synthetic can compare to animal hair brushes and as a MUA I'm sure he knows this. This brush set is just garbage, cult of personality is the real product here

Small powerlevel, but I went to IBS NY (a trade show for licensed cosmetologists) and Crown Brushes and Morphe were both there. Can confirm 100% that a lot of Morphe brushes are eerily similar to Crown Brushes, but they did have a few brushes that weren't blatantly the same.

I will say this, I hate a majority of the morphe brushes I do own. The R12 and the M43 shed to no end and feel so massively cheap. I would've been massively pissed if I paid full price. I get that Jeffree sells his makeup through Morphe so he's almost kinda obligated to collab with them, but to go with them for a brush collab?? Only a few months ago Jaclyn's brush collab was an absolute disaster. Maybe Linda loves Jeff more, idk.

Honestly when I heard of this new Jeffree Star drama I just expected it to be the typical shit about him "exposing people." Half of all the drama in the beauty community is, or it's just "this person talked about me behind my back!!!" or screenshots of them saying nigger/being racist a few years ago, or them lying for money, being catty etc. It's funny but usually nothing new

This time it's some pretty interesting stuff. Maybe someday there will be a thread on the person who stole 2.5 million dollars worth of makeup and was dumb enough to give the pictures out to people who post pictures of it online.... to their facebook...

What if in a few months it turns out the whole thing was staged to create more drama and bring more attention to him and his brand and he gets "exposed." People show proof the whole thing was a fake scandal to give his brand more attention.

OR in reality someone who hates him or competes with him will try to prove it's fake and people will be divided on if it's all a lie or not because they will fabricate a bunch of evidence. More than likely a random on Twitter or someone like Thomas Halbert.

Either way it'll be a shitshow.

But it's a crime to make false reports to the police. Insurance fraud is also illegal (assuming it was insured and he collects). If this is some kind of stunt, it's an incredibly stupid one.

Agreed, while it is possible he could stage an event for publicity, it’s very unlikely he would get law enforcement involved. If it was a stunt he could have easily claimed something like test samples were stolen, and pursing the theives wouldn’t be worth it since the product stolen wouldn’t equal the final launch.

I can't see him staging this to get attention, he can (and does) get plenty of attention from other things.
He also strikes me as being a bit smarter than many of the other BGs out there; he knows not to pull something so stupid.

I'd imagine so, given how he's managed to stay relevant after getting his start back on MySpace.

Yeah, I highly doubt Jeffree had anything to do with this burglary.

He claimed to involve the FBI and also he's right, this same thing has happened to other big brands like ABH, not to mention it wouldn't make sense to talk about a girl sitting in jail for having something to with the black market trade if it weren't true in a video. Also the fact that the concealer did leak gives legitimacy to his story. I'm hoping something comes from this, tbh I'm super interested by the whole makeup black market.
Once someone accidentally bought me a fake Lime Crime lip topper and it had the exact same issues with it that the real ones had. After that out of curiosity I bought two more Lime Crime products from that seller and both acted identical to each other but only one lipstick had the right packaging. I'm no makeup pro but they swatched identical to each other and one verified as real lipstick. I dunno but this is really interesting to me. How profitable is this market and how are they able to do so? Sure some are shitty fakes but clearly identical makeup can be found on places like Wish and AliExpress. And who knows, maybe some do sell the real stuff but stolen
