Mama Sweet must be so proud that her son graduated was kicked out of college about 20 years ago and he still lives with her she [still] lives with him while he has been simmering in grudges the whole time.

Also, it's odd how among animals, children normally leave the nest as soon as they're ready (and if they stay, they normally work - like bees or ants), but among humans, many kids never leave the nest and pretty much do nothing.
It's also worth noting that Mama Sweets is in her 60s and had a heart attack a few years back, but she's still gone back to work part-time. Either she loves her work, or somebody needs to bring money into the house...

Having a thing and being able to draw a thing are not necessarily linked for Mr. Sweet.

Case in point: he has hands.

Are we sure? I don't recall ever seeing a photo of his hands; just his ugly face.

There's no evidence that he isn't drawing this comics with his feet.

Back in the thread, when someKiwi first called Sweet Bro on one of his hilarious cartoon manglehands, he attempted to rebut the criticism by posting a picture of one of his hands, contorted into roughly the same picture as in the cartoon.

So we know he's got at least one hand...

Ok, see this right here makes me pissed off. An elderly woman with serious health issues is forced to work because her able-bodied son can't act like a semi-civilized person enough to hold down a menial job and bring some money into the house. Nice one Jon.

Yep, that's true. And even if he fulfilled his fantasy of going back to ASU, what about his mom? College journalism doesn't pay that much (if anything...) his piddling part time Herald money isn't going to help her very much at all, assuming he doesn't just keep all of it anyway.

I wasn't aware of Mama Sweet having a heart attack.

Also, I seem to recall @He Sets Me On Fire saying that the Sweet yard is a mess . The house is probably trashed on the inside as well, if the comics are any indication. Which means that even around the house, Sweet apparently doesn't really help out.

his piddling part time Herald money
IIRC, the gig at the Herald wasn't really a paid position - it was more like a volunteer student thing.

I thought I remembered him saying somewhere he made a little money at it. I was surprised because I didn't think campus newspapers paid.
I like how he keeps complaining that the Herald incident has got him blacklisted from other newspapers. I guess nobody has told him that a lot of online publications don't care who you are and let you write under a pseudonym. For example, I don't think Cracked gives a shit and they wouldn't look you up even if they wanted your real name anyway. I know because I've looked into writing for a few places, and only want to write anonymously. It's never seemed like an issue. I wonder how he explains that?
Oh, there's absolutely no question in my mind the house is trashed. The cat buffet picture shows the floor is absolute shit.

I wasn't aware of Mama Sweet having a heart attack.

He mentions it on AJM now and then. I distinctly recall him mentioning that he started cooking low-sodium meals for his mother after the heart attack, which is at least something. He would have done well to stick to such a diet himself.

I'm pretty sure there's copies of some of the relevant posts in the Belch Archive, but I couldn't find it with a brief skim. If I stumble upon any mentions I'll post them.

Dr. Merkwürdichliebe said the newspaper "pay" was $40 a semester or something, I think.

Also, every one of those "Do you speak {language}?" are wrong. It should be "Parlez-vous français?", "Habla usted español?", and "Sprechen Sie Deutsch?"
inb4 Sweetven King claims that it's eye dialect and he's reflecting how a non-native speaker would pronounce things.

So his mom has to work despite being old and having a heart attack because Sweets is an asshat. He then proceeds to make her a villain in his comic over, what I can only assume, is some dumb ass shit.

I knew he was a shitty person but god damn. Not even ValenBirthday (or whatever) can make up for this awful behavior.

That raises an interesting point: assuming Jonnyboy was allowed to return to AS(S)U, how does he intend to pay for it? Surely even he realizes that people have to pay to go to college, unless he believes that he's entitled to free admittance because of the severe rectal damage he received at half-past 1997.* I sincerely doubt he's smart enough to try to figure out the FAFSA or any other way of acquiring financial aid, and we know he won't work. Maybe he expects Mommy to foot the bill?
*I know, with Sweetums it's a given that he believes he's entitled to everything he wants.

And fwiw, I was on the student paper and yearbook at my college and wasn't paid anything for either of them, but maybe it varies from college to college.

Sweet Bro, we know you lurk this thread, so if you visit between now and your deadline of midnight tomorrow...please can we finally get the second part of Derivative Detectives? I really want to see more of the ape sidekick which looks so much like you.

EDIT: below is the image with Sweet Ape, for easy reference. Also, check out the bottom-left panel...dat hand tho. Maybe in the future, people will be diagnosed with Sweet Syndrome if they're pathologically incapable of drawing hands?

Also, add "rudimentary German" to the list of things Sweet Bro is not good at. Sprechen Sie deutsch, mein Herr - nicht "Spreichen".

And finally, from the same misspelled German panel - further evidence that every female character Sweet draws looks very masculine. Strong chin - very alpha.

Please tell me I'm not the only one that got a headache trying to read that comic.

a headache trying to read that comic
I think I almost got one. I can usually read through a scientific study fairly quickly and pretty much understand what they're saying. But when it comes to Sweetish, I have to read much slower to get what's going on because Sweet's handwriting (which I assume he thinks is "juuust fine") is hard to read.

I can't even read his crap, mainly because his linework and shoving so much stuff in one panel (plus an awful decision to write the textboxes and the general muddiness of his comic) makes my brain go "fuggit" and slip back to normal texts. He really should show some curiosity in drawing comics.
