I dont get why so many hate anime?

I just absolutely do not like the style of anime, the art or how the stories are laid out. I despise the voice acting, shrill childish voices or the overly masculine, growling powertripping machospeak. I couldn’t care less about the weebs or nerds but it always makes me question if a person is worth getting to know if they say they live and breathe for anime. I have tried many times to just open my mind and try to watch some but I just can’t, it is just so stupid and brainrotting.

Im the "I was born in the wrong generation" of anime. Do I count? I hate modern weebtrash but 80s and 90s weebtrash are peak kino. Honneamize, akira, memories, nadia, evangelion, angel cop *mwah*.

Nah you sound like a dude who recognizes quality. Anime in the 80s and 90s was better than anime now.

Every once in awhile something good comes along (one of the few modern shows I enjoyed was The Apothecary Diaries, which is basically a medical mystery series set in a land modeled after ancient China), but for the most part, all the good stuff was before 2012. That's true of everything tho.

When I was younger I preferred English dubs because my reading wasn't as good, but as an adult I'll 99% of the time prefer subs.
Older anime, I'd say probably right up until 2010 or so, had a much wider variety of voice acting and less 'rules' about what 'an anime voice' should sound like as well.

You watch a retro anime and the voice actors are bringing their own kind of style and naturality to the roles, sometimes at the expense of the original script, but at least it isn't totally fucking cringe.

You watch a modern dub and you can clearly tell they're all using the same intonation, inflections, making the obnoxious sound-filling "anime grunt" noise. It's fucking annoying and makes every performance sound the same, even when they aren't using the same six VAs over and over.

Because it's garbage OP, and it's too popular now with all the negatives that go along with that.

I miss all the old 80s/90s and even some of the 00s dubs. Now normalfags pretend that they prefer the subs as if they were original nerds/geeks/otaku.

OG EVA dub and the Sonic OVA movie dub are ones where I think the voices mostly fit the characters' personalities really well. Robotnik had enough of an impact that you now have a guy who got popular making meme videos where he does an impersonation of that specific voice (and even got invited to several sega press events due to it!)
EDIT: actually, speaking of sonic stuff specifically effected by "normalfags pretending to prefer subs as if they were the original nerds" Is really infesting the talk about the games now that youtube people deemed them "good" again. SA2's english dub s a near 1 to 1 of the JP script and that used to be framed as bad for being close despite it being pretty much perfect save for audio cutoffs that actually enhanced natural flow in some spots, but now it's framed as bad because they had the interruptions during heated conversation moments in the english one. So they ether play the game in JP or they mod it so the script flows slower and weirder and then they say the english one s bad because of that. Unironcally just the same "sonic was never good" shit in a more current year trendy flavor.

Kinda already brought this up in the Oneyplays thread, When I was a kid I fucking hated how weird the english voice acting for a game I really liked was, looking back it's infinitely better and more soulful compared to shit from the last 10 years. Less nostalgia talking here and more "I appreciate the effort even f stuff came out odd at points".
This upload of the opening cutscene's title sums up the general feeling I have towards the voice acting of this and a lot of other things that have kinda shit at times but not samey voiceover work. Voice for the main villain was great but weirdly paced to fit with cutscene animations.

Don't dub haters want the dub actors to sound familiar to the japanese cause they can't handle dub va's sounding 30% more different to the sub?

There's no sexual content in Lucky Star.
Late, but there absolutely is. I remember watching Lucky Star as a young teen the blue haired MC was playing a perverted game, trying to pull the swimsuit/under wear off the woman in said game.

This seems like an old thread, but I can't blame people for hating or disliking anime. It got mainstream, the sex pests and coomers started clinging to it and being obnoxious about their perversion.

I enjoy the occasional anime. I'm extremely picky though. I was kind of one of those cringe but harmless weebs as a kid. Obsessed with Yu-Gi-Oh, Sailor Moon, DBZ and the like. But I rarely dip my toes into new anime despite loving the art, storytelling and music.
Mostly because all the big name animes are just over hyped or straight up coomer garbage.
I liked Azumanga Daioh but I'm tired of the millionth "cute girls doing cute things with lesbian bait mixed in" anime.

Anime fans really ruin everything. They don't care about the storytelling. They only care about their waifus and who/what makes them coom and that has actively affected the industry.

And frankly, I'm so very sick of it.

Watching soap operas for old fat soccerdads like Sopranos or Breaking Bad is infinitely worse than hating even the trashiest of seasonal anime.
I'm a weeb and even I think this is retarded.

This is, again, not unique to niptoons. The otaku/weeaboo crowd are definitely the most culpable but they're far from the only type of fan that's ruined their own favored medium.

Not liking something sounding too off from the original is something of a common criticism that applies to pretty much dubbed media from any country, and t goes both ways. Some western stuff flopped in japan due to them not liking the voiceover the last few years from what remember.

I personally really appreciate it when they try making stuff sound similar enough, JP king of the hill is a pretty good example of dub voices sounding similar to the original one.

Modern english dubs are exclusively the same clique of actors sounding nothing like the characters most of the time. You end up with with situations like a mildly obnoxious adult character who sounds like a female equivalent to angry trumpet guy esque goblin in every dub aside from english one, where it of course is just sounding like monica rial's bulma voice for the 50th time but with reddit/twitter post type shit jammed into the script nobody asked for

Isn't one of that characters traits that they're a bit of a creep at times? I mean aside from the main one of them being an overall turbosperg about shit?
Also this just reminded me of how many games like that existed on flash game websites during the 2000s. Like that was actually stuff that was all over the internet back then brought up n a lot of comedy media of the times because of how fucking bizarre it was.

I never really got into Lucky Star but I've seen a few episodes. I always figured Konata's (I think that's her name) gimmick was that she was a stereotypical otaku, only as a cutesy schoolgirl instead of an out-of-shape Japanese man. An otaku gijinka, if you will.

I mean there are female otaku too, in japan otaku literally is just "nerd" type so I wouldn't call it a "gijinka" or whatever. Just "a fucking sperg"

Sure but I meant in that she was like a male otaku portrayed as a female character.
Though now that I think about it fujos aren't far off from that...

She was literally called a fujo in one of the bios I remember glancing over many moons ago when someone compared me to the character back in the day.
For additional context, I am not a fujo, nor am I a blue hared anime character. Hoping this clears things up.
