My first week of the new semester went really well. Despite having more work to do than in other semesters, I've been keeping up with it so far and doing things ahead of time so I have time to do other important stuff. In the past two days, I've applied for 4 different internships and will find more to apply to. One of them was doing IT work for a bank downtown next summer. I've been taking a break from certification studying but once I get my own equipment to work with, I'll get right back into that too in tangent with more labs and videos.

I did a boxing class with a coworker, my boss, and his wife today. It was really fun and nice to see my skills hadn't atrophied (I kickboxed and did self-defense in my first year of college) but during the cardio portion (running around the gym, sidestepping around the gym, etc) I realized my exercise-induced asthma is less controlled than it used to be. I'm not out of shape but it makes me feel lazy and out of shape when that shit kicks in. It's really only with running and swimming (I take it easy with running because I have arthritis in my knees and I don't swim like I'm on a swim team any more) and thankfully not with weight training but I would fucking love to bike again without seeing stars. As much as I hated my inhaler (think I last used it in high school?) I think I need to see my doctor again. IT's also been a shit year for allergies considering pollen and goddamn wildfires.

I spent this weekend at the annual Light Festival in Toruń, watching its famous videomappings on facades of buildings. And some of them were

JUST

AWESOME

I last attended the festival two years ago. There were similar mappings back then, too, but they do not stop being breathtaking. My problem with the event is there are no studio-quality video recordings taken during it, but... maybe you just had to be there. With the thumping, groundshaking bass, the high resolution visuals and the ability to move around freely and view the spectacle from different angles, it's as if someone opened a portal to another dimension. It was surreal and overwhelming.

I just found out that up until now, I've been pronouncing "Rigel" wrong. It's like "ree-gell," not "rye-jell." ("G" as in "go.")

Night before last I got no sleep 'cause I was trying to make my PC non-loud. I left for work early to buy cable ties but forgot the place wasn't open.

When I got back from work, after feeding the dog/cats/me, I fell asleep at a horribly crooked angle for two hours- I woke up at my normal bedtime and couldn't get back to sleep.

Tl;dr sleep cycle is screwed.

On the plus side my thumb doesn't seem to be a strange colour anymore which is neat, and I found a £1 coin on the floor.

Pretty much had thoughts of possibly dropping a college class I have (the one that requires an internship) since my searches for an internship in CIS (computer info systems) hasn't been good (I can't find one in computer repair) but luckily since I got help from the professor of my internship class, I might have a chance at getting one at the college I attend. Already sent a letter of interest to the person my professor referred me to so now I hope to God I get an internship.

These weekends I can go back to the main island and back to my house with my air conditioning and rocking ABBA music videos on my big screen Tv. :heart-full:

This is the first year I had a huge widescreen Tv in my childhood bedroom.:heart-full:

The past few months have been the most difficult of my life. I have a master's degree and have had to work retail for the past two months, assembling and stocking shelves eight hours a day. I have virtually no money, and live hand to mouth. I am seventy miles away from any of my friends. One of the people I was closest to in the world became sick and passed away. In short, things have sucked.

Hopefully, things seem to at least be leveling out a bit. Also, I'm currently dogsitting, so that's pretty fun.

I'm trying to find a more efficient way to retain information. It was so frustrating to me yesterday how I did all these overly long detailed notes and then took a practice quiz at the end and only got about half of them right. I wrote like 15-20 pages total just for one chapter and I really want to start over fresh with a new notepad to take notes on. My main problem is that I'm spending way too much time trying to copy information from the book verbatim instead of really understanding it and trying to put the most important stuff in my own words. Doing that could probably save myself some time and some relief for my wrist and hand.

I will try that today and try other methods to reinforce the information. The book itself I'm reading makes everything straightforward to understand but there's a lot of information that I need to know to pass this certification I'm still planning to take, so there lies the challenge for me. I also hate how messy my handwriting can get when I take notes and feel like I have to rush through a chapter. I'm looking into using a program like EverNote to help me out or something.

Edit: I went back and reread the first chapter, but this time I made sure my notes were a lot more legible and that I took my time reading through each page and understanding the concepts. Whenever I could, I tried to say something in my own words and used lots of abbreviations and keywords to help me remember what the main point of each section was about. I also decided to do them on cheap copy paper rather than my notebook so I wouldn't have to worry too much about line constraints. I reviewed my notes before doing the practice questions and looked at them along the way and I've done dramatically better on not only the written labs but the practice questions too. I've gone from retaining less than 50% of what I was reading to more than 80% and I reduced the number of note pages I took by around 7 or so.

It amazed me how much of a big difference doing it this way made compared to what I was doing before. I now have a strategy to where I think I'm gonna do really well if I keep reviewing old notes everyday and so forth and do at least two chapters a day if I can. And my hand isn't so irritated either. I'm going to try to apply this method to all the notes I take for my classes because I think it can help me get more As in the classes. I'm doing fine right now as an A/B student, but I can do even better.

I was bringing in the laundry today, and I tripped over the step in our backyard, spilling the bucket of clothespins, scraping up my ankle, and cutting my toe, right along the nail. On the plus side, I didn't spill the laundry (cuz then I'd have to wash it all over again)

Today has been much better than two days ago. I not only feel much better from whatever stomach ache and head ache I had, I also managed to finish whatever most of the work I had assigned for one my classes this week. (just have to finish the reading, already finished the quiz which got me a little over a 100% but it is a very basic English quiz for Business English). Only downside is that apparently, some work is due today except it appears off by a year. Not much of a problem for me so much as for my peers though I'm sure the professor of that class will resolve it. Still no internship that is close to home that is related to the field I'm pursuing.

Anxiety is still here. It's… a tiny bit more tolerable, I guess? But it still sucks hardcore and makes me feel drained all the time. Maybe I'm depressed too.

Going to take at least two more classes at my community college because why not. The downside is that I have to register myself again, and I apparently waited too long to act, since classes officially start tomorrow and the process isn't finished yet. So I'll be starting a bit later than everyone else, it seems. But oh well.

Also, slightly NSFW
I plan on losing my virginity soon. Scared about going to the gynecologist for the first time, though, and it's going to be extremely awkward when I ask my mom for permission to go on the pill afterwards. But I feel like I'm more or less ready.

Got a shitload to do tomorrow. I want to really get this internship interview out of the way tomorrow and do the best I can to market and position myself so I can get some help desk experience as soon as possible. I also have a bunch of group projects and assignments I'm doing on top of everything else I've been working on. It's been a great test of my own time management skills and at times stressful but worth it in the long run even though it means less time that I can spend on the Farms.

Anyone have any tips about cleaning up after someone busts in your passenger side window? I shop-vac'd most of the glass I could see, but I'm worried about small slivers and dust.

Fuckhead threw a rock the size of a basketball through the window.

A lint roller could probably help get all the little particles you can't see (and it should work regardless of what your seats are made of). Just wear gloves when you do it and be careful when peeling the paper off so you don't cut yourself on accident. I'd try to do a thorough vacuuming in-between seats, too.

Thanks. Luckily, my car is mostly leather inside, so the tape treatment worked well enough for the driver's seat. Just the carpeted footwells.

Ayyyyy, I got a job today.

Network security role, happy the hunt is over for now.

It's a later evening almost graveyard hour shift, so hopefully some paid Kiwi time. Wow that's sad I'm thinking about that as a factor.
Anyway yeah, get wrecked real life corporate world, Glaive owns you.
