I think that positive media representation helps this sort of thing. Like with racial minorities and queer folk, the more often you see something, the more you realize that it's not actually scary/bad/weird/whatever. I wouldn't mind seeing more short men as leading stars on TV and in movies.

...which is totally not a transparent hope that Robert Carlyle (5'6) and Louis Ferreira (5'8) will star in more things, even though goddamn, their talent is wasted on TV these days. Wasted, I say!

Just a friendly reminder, our much beloved resident neo nazi Tyce is nearly a whole head taller than jace (who is around 6 feet tall give or take), and the only girls who will hook up woth him are in special ed.
 
We'll show 'em, manlets... let's all cosplay as the Dwarves from The Hobbit, then rent some sports cars.

Is this an American thing? You get a lot more different ethnic groups here, with a much wider variance in height.

This really is just making excuses for not getting laid -some women are totally insistent on dating taller men, and short dudes will latch onto that like a storm-tossed man to a wooden beam.

What the ever loving hell?, I thought one or two of those guy's where over Six foot tall particularly Depp an Clooney. Pacino has such a big presance on screen in every film I have seen him in I always though he was much taller.

Welcome to the mass media.
It's all about the camera angles.
You know why Hitler always wanted his speeches to be recorded at slightly low angle. This camera trick would Make Hitler seem taller and give a bigger sense of height and presence in the mind of the viewer.
you could also do tricks like what they did in LOTR to make the hobbits look like.... hobbits.

But I wonder why so many popular actors are so short, I mean that isn't a reasonable or natural display of heights but those guy's get some major screen time. I mean Statham I have stood next too twice and he seemed to be taller than that, hell I have met Vinny Jones quite a few times and he is about 6ft one of the times I have sttem Statham he seemed the same height as him, maybe it's some optical illusion of me being so tall.

Brazilian beloved dictator getulio vargas( he is loved as napoleon is as a national hero here) was also very short.
Short people changed the world.
Also in a russia you cant be taller than 1.65m to fit in a tank.
Their tanks have minimal space for crew to fit in the biggest gun,armor and engine available in the smallest form possible,to avoid being hit.
Sadly retards like saddam hussein decided to make crap knock offs made of iron and poor quality steel,firing training rounds with a scope taped to the cannon vs The most expensive and modern US tanks.
Also short make good pilots and astronauts (can bail out through tiny hatches easier,are smaller targets,etc)

Depends what kind of planets. To live on a heavy gravity planet, greater than Earth's, you'd probably want to be relatively shy on mass (although you would "weigh" more on the planet's surface). Or alternately, very muscular to carry around high gravity weight.

And muscle power becomes proportionally greater as mass decreases. That's (partly) why insects are so stronk.

Hollywood has always been run by manlets, and probably always will be because they seem to work better on set. You can throw an apple box down to make a short guy taller, but it takes a lot more effort to make a tall guy seem shorter. Put a 6'2 guy on a set designed for guys in the 5'8 range, and there will be some problems.

Short people have plenty of representation in the media. There just isn't as much contrast between heights, for aforementioned reasons. If you saw Tom Cruise IRL you would say, "damn, he's short" but you wouldn't notice it on screen. What's the solution?
Make movies where women are taller than men? That's not exactly realistic, and it won't make women want to date men shorter than them either. Maybe it's not "fair", but sexual attraction has never been about fairness.

I'm used to being the tallest person in a group, but one time I had a security escort who was almost 7'. It was definitely a noticeable feeling to be so much shorter than someone, especially trying to hold a conversation with him. I can see how guys could build up a complex after being exposed to that for years, but I also think it's a somewhat natural reaction.

Strength is largely a function of area coupled with how much the muscle needs to work to lift anything. This is why humans, as we are built, have an upwards size limit of maybe 3-4 meters at most. Any larger than that and they'd be unable to move. You'd think there would be no problem as the muscle would be larger and could therefore lift more. And you're right, if it didn't also have to lift itself as well. The bigger the muscle, the more strength needed to lift that muscle and the less strength it has to lift anything else.

Think of it like this. In order for a rocket to take off, it needs fuel. But that fuel has weight and therefore needs more fuel to lift it. Which is why 90% of a rocket's mass is propellant. Only 6% is the actual structure and that leaves only 4% for the actual payload including the astronauts.
