So hasan wanted a cute animal that sits down all day to give him ego points... why didn't he adopt an elderly cat?

Fancy working dog:
- Haram, unclean
- Needs to be trained (electrocuted) to stay in one place all day
- Needs playing, attention, something to do
- Enjoys walking around and physical activity
- Needs to be taken for walks if it drinks water
- Will have an unhappy life of neglect

10 year old cat:
- "Favored pet of many muslims" according to wikipedia
- Will voluntarily lie down in a warm spot all day
- Enjoys human attention but not too much, content to be in the same room as you and sit there
- Playing days are over, doesn't want to run around
- Litterbox trained, doesn't leave the house
- Probably wasn't going to get adopted anyways due to age so you did a good thing giving it a happy retirement
