”We are in the imperial core. This is the country that defeated the USSR—unfortunately.”
One thing that irks me the most about tankies and campist, self-professed communists like Hasan is that they can literally only ever exist in a capitalist society like the US. There would be no online pundit class in the glorious communist utopias they imagine, being a professional opinion-giver wouldn't be a job.
Hasan is a trustfund kiddie who lives off of the capital he, his parents, and his grandparents have accrued from the comforts of capitalism. This faggot would never have been able to live the comfortable life he currently has in the Soviet Union, much less survive in it, working menial labor. If a revolt against the rich were to ever happen, Hasan would be on the top of that imaginary movement's "To Purge" list.
Is the mayor of NYC really such an important political office that he had to fly in from L.A.?
Hasan and other leftists see Mamdani as their gateway to legitimacy in broader politics.
Hasan's sway begins and ends with his fanbase of teenaged girls, manchildren and trannies on Twitch, meanwhile Mamdani went from an obscure DSA councilman to the mayor of the country's biggest city. Hasan thought that if he could ride Mamdani's coattails long enough, he'd be able to exert the same kind of influence that someone like Steve Bannon or Heritage exerts on Trump, being the talking head whispering in his ear while never having to directly govern himself.
Unfortunately for him, the realities of electoral power gave Zohran repeated reminders that figures like Hasan are electoral cancer and he needs to distance himself from them as much as possible if he actually plans on being effective.
