Rockstar Games has delayed Grand Theft Auto 6 for the second time. Previously scheduled for a May 2026 release, the studio's highly anticipated open-world crime epic is now scheduled to arrive on Nov. 19, 2026, Rockstar Games has announced.

Rockstar announced the latest GTA 6 delay on Thursday, just ahead of publisher Take-Two Interactive's earnings, noting that an additional six months of development time "will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve."

Here's the studio's statement:

Grand Theft Auto VI will now release on Thursday, November 19, 2026.

We are sorry for adding additional time to what we realize has been a long wait, but these extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve.

We want to thank you again for your patience and support. While the wait is a little longer, we are incredibly excited for players to experience the sprawling state of Leonida and a return to modern day Vice City.

Grand Theft Auto 6 was originally slated for release sometime in 2025 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, but was pushed out to 2026 back in May.

Another delay for GTA 6 isn't much of a surprise, however; Rockstar is also known for its perfectionism and is pitching GTA 6 as "the largest game launch in history," with a day-one audience of millions of players worldwide. Rockstar has a history of delaying its big games, including marquee titles like Grand Theft Auto 4, Grand Theft Auto 5, and Red Dead Redemption 2.

That said, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said as recently as August that his "level of conviction is very, very high" regarding GTA 6's May 2026 release date. Given that, pencil in GTA 6's new November 2026 release date. Or use a dry-erase marker.

GTA 6's online component is going to be front and center for those sweet, sweet shark cards.

I wasn't going to buy it anyway, I hated how 5 just cut out shit just to add it to the online part of the game. San Andreas ended up feeling bigger than 5.

If they end up releasing it in 2029 because of that whole “we’re not going to release a GTA game when Trump is president” I’m going to LOL.
The biggest losers in all of this though has to be the PlayStation fanboys acting like GTA 6 is going to save the PS5 somehow despite pretty much everyone who’s going to play GTA 6 on PlayStation already owning one.

Unfortunately this will probably be true. They can't be happy that RDR2's online mode flopped so hard when GTA5 was an infinite money glitch for them. But, Rockstar is one of the only game companies that consistently puts out an ambitious and polished game — one that you can actually tell cost hundreds of millions of dollars to make. I am cautiously optimistic

Nah, they'll release it but they have to rewrite every mission that didn't have you killing a thinly veiled MAGA character to make sure that is now who gets shot.

Anyone who thinks GTA 6 is going to be as buggy as Cyberpunk or as crappy as Starfield is coping. The game will be fine.

But it will have some glitches. It will have plot elements many people won't like. And it will be monetized as hard if not harder than any Chink gacha.

gta6 is gonna be a landmark in vidya history, it's the absolute maximum that can be done with the tech available we have right now. it's gonna be THE hyperrealistic open world game that kids have wanted (or thought they wanted) since the 90s. rockstar is just about the only studio that can pull a game of this magnitude off since they have infinite money and no time constraints. cdpr tried to do something similar with cyberpunk but they forgot they didn't have the sheer amount of money or manpower needed to make the game they really wanted.
after this i think games are really gonna stagnate or scale back a bit in terms of what they want to do since the cost to develop games of this scope is simply too much for anybody except a handful of companies with deep pockets to see through to completion. there will be even more layoffs once development is done as they switch to maintaining the game which needs much less work than active development. the industry has had bomb after bomb lately and execs need to start realizing that hiring infinity indians and throwing more money and middle managers at a game is not going to get them returns, or they can continue to be retarded jews and crash their studios with no survivors.
only gta i've played is 10 minutes of san andreas and maybe III/vice city

I hope they're not removing the pride parades. That would be the only reason to play.
That reminds me there was once some group of faggots who modded in a gay pride parade into GTA 5 right after the Orlando shooting and you couldn't hurt the people in the parade at all. I only know about it cause shit like Kotaku and Polygon were shilling the fuck out of it hard but I don't think too many people actually downloaded it since it disappeared just as fast as it was shilled.

Like it happened with Concord before, the investors and the dev that are betting their hopes on this game are brainless fuckwits. Hey western devs, just because you put 1000s of pajeets and DEI hires into making this game and billions of dollars doesn't mean the result is going to turn out great. You need visionaries, likes of Sam and Dan Houser who understood what the fuck they were doing. The current Rockstar lacks any key individuals to give their game that familiar identity, GTA 6 is like soulless husk in skinsuit of GTA.

This game is going to be the modern day ET and flush the industry down the toilet.

It will £99 on launch+subscription model +dlc + sharkcards and it will be forgotten as quick as RDR2.

Dev costs to date are north of $2 billion.

6 month delay is another 50+ million dollars added to the budget (extremely conservative guess)

Edit: A slightly more informed guess, RDR2 had 7k devs credited, lets assume 8k for GTA6 (likely very conservative), lets assume a sallary of 60k a year because game dev rapes you and gives nothing in return, 6 month delay is AT LEAST 240 million, this would also put the total budget in the 3.8 billion dollar range assuming 8 years of development since RDR2.

In the time it took modern Rockstar to go from the release of the 1st trailer to the release of the 2nd trailer, old Rockstar had released GTA III, started working on GTA Vice City, put out a trailer for VC, made the entire game, sent preview copies to j*urnalists, hyped it up and released the fucking sequel.
