Gameoverse is disappointing as fuck. Like OY VEY, how did Mr. Donovan miss a premise as golden as "stopping video game heroes from winning"? From the surface it would be like a Dorkly skit but actually funny. Remember the "if video games were n% realistic" videos?

But no we got 32 minutes of a furry coping "my family's bread" and the most confusing hero/villlian setup ever in an indie pilot.
The worst part about GV discourse is the fact more people (on X) are concerned about Kit's outfit than the fact that she has no personality at all. That should be what's more important here. Okay, your family got deleted can you do anything interesting... at all? With troubled characters with dead family members any good author would apply that loss to the character's personality. Is the character a cold, determined character out for revenge like Sasuske or does he/she seek justice instead like Batman? Well, according to Donovan she's sad, THAT'S IT.
Then again, her lack of character matters not; as long as she's a furry catgirl all the gooners and consoomers will be slopping her up in merch sales, and in fanart.
She's only less painful to watch than flappers, but that's a very low bar.
At least her sidekick, Kaboodle, is funny and as an added bonus, he actually DOES THE FUCKING JOB, which is to help the villian. And yet...
They really missed the opportunity to make some meta jokes about platformer bosses here. When Flappers fights Snappers, it doesn't even feel like Snappers did anything extravagant to catch his rival off-guard. Where are the jokes about the weakpoints? Why not have Kaboodle say "You know what, Snaps, wear this, you don't want to let Flappers know your sensitive down there."

And have him put on some protection o algo.
And when Flappers and Snappers are on their last fins, have them both get knocked out and then at the end and then the ceiling can cave in and drop a 1up that lands on Flappers.
The anticlimactic ending we got had none of that, Flaps deflects the fireball and thats it...

Where's the joke, Dobson???
A multi-million dollar budget taking 13 years to develop and yet like 3/4 of the cast are either SNCA are insufferable. But hey, at least it had good animation? Guys? It had good animation? What else do you need? Cinema? This will beat hollywood, guys, CartoonBase and ToonHive said so!

It really sucks that it isn't verifiable because I can see it happening mainly from being too dumb to manage anything. At the same time though there's some massive ego games going on so it's more than likely that as opposed to just stupidity.
In a better world, these egos would be kept in check so Gameoverse could cross over with Action 52 and everyone can realize that MAYBE some worlds just deserve to die and not even be harvested.
The biggest issues is that the decent shit is in the side-stuff and is super easy to actually miss. Kit and Kaboodle at least make a "serious and jokester" duo to balance each other out (except when they're actually separated for the entire first episode and almost never allowing them to show their teamwork except in flashbacks). And to that piece of shit Dolphin's credit, while it isn't as good as your suggestion considering it's supposed to be parody-comedy, what he did do at least was assess the battlefield and look for stuff that could stun the boss, which is something you also do in platformers with that kinda thing. Reflecting the fireball through pure strength was gay though considering you're also supposed to be evasive in platformer bosses and punishing weak points, like at least reflect it with an actual stage macguffin or something.
I feel like the fucking comic book geek from the Simpsons for laying it out, but that's because a concept such as this is for people like that.
I strongly stand by how this episode really should not have been a pilot. It's been in development for 13 years, surely there were bigger, better ideas to showcase your first episode. Maybe this will be a reverse of Digital Circus where this starts weak as hell but takes a bit of stumbling to get to the real shit.

I'm suddenly reminded of an old 2014 Disney cartoon called Penn Zero Part Time Hero.

It's been a while since I've seen it, but from what I remember, this kid and his group of friends travel through different worlds and take the place of the local heroes and do their jobs. There's a rival group that does the same for the villains

GameOverse is just that but reversed. Now granted, GameOverse was in development since 2009, so maybe Ross came up with the idea first or maybe it's just a coincidence. GameOverse IS still different (In a good way, or a bad way, you decide), and we still have several episodes to see how Ross plans on exploring the concept. And again, I haven't watched Penn Zero in a while, so maybe I'm wrong.

But man, it's not a good look for the openly anti-Disney company to now have two shows that you can reasonably argue have Disney parallels. It would be the funniest shit if Knights of Guinevere, once we get to the later episodes goes full scorched earth on saying Disney sucks, while living under the same roof as The Amazing Digital Toy Story and Penn ZerOverse.

Thoughts? Ofc the persons redesign is a bit choppy but I like the idea, gives me nostalgia, with her current design I cant even tell what kinda game shes supposed to be from. Ig its just a bit annoying they are all bobbleheaded midgets even moreso than the gooner stuff.

I don't think they have to look from different worlds in the first place but the fact Gameoverse did no attempt at ALL through all it's cast makes it lazy at best and creatively bankrupt at worst.

Generally speaking stuff that involves crossovers will usually
1-Force everyone into one single style
2-Actually adapt the character to that world
3-Keep certain characters in their own style regardless of how uncanny it looks and make it part of the charm

Smiling friends knew this.

So kit is just going to travel between worlds and everyone is going to have the same artstyle and every girl the same body type so at that point is it even a crossover? This makes all the designs look so generic and harder to spot the references. If there is even a reference there (Miss info and Fold look like Ok Ko background OCs)

That old guy knight from concept art is probably meant to be arthur from Ghosts and goblins but the artstyle just make him look super bland and shitty. Not like arthur is super unique but he had the armor break gimmick, big weapons and is usually very short in crossovers.

Isn't this the dream videogame crossover made by that one guy on newgrounds? With that premise you would think every character had their sprites ripped from different games in different consoles with completely clashing styles. Could even go mixed media like Gumball.

The anticlimactic ending we got had none of that, Flaps deflects the fireball and thats it...

No you see, the joke was that Snappers didn't know he could spit fireballs! And then Jschlat points THAT just happened! It's reference to that uh... iconic retro game where the villain didn't know he could do that?

They must have thought it was reeeeally funny too cause it appeared in all trailers and ads.

The funny thing is that the credits DID decide to switch up the artstyle to reference different games. They CAN do it, they just choose not to, at least for the pilot.

Will Ross do stuff like this in future episodes? Probably. Daddy Glitch needs their merchandisable character designs after all.

Oh cool. The Yuri/Yaoi fandom is known for being completely sane. We can chalk that up as another group that will Gameoverse has drawn in.

And I feel like this is what rubs me the wrong way with Gamoverse. It feels like it's going down a list in an attempt to cater to as many groups as possible. Maybe it's just because of my years on this site and my growing cynicism as I get older, but it feels so incredibly forced.

When you strip away the nostalgia bait of Grant Kirkhope and old video games, the high profile voice actors both English and Japanese to show that this isn't just any indie cartoon show, Kit's outfit scene for the you know who crowd, and now the added lesbian romance. What do you have left?

Rather than create a show that's unique and interesting that hold up on it's own, it comes across as a desperate and manipulative attempt to get people to please please like the show and spread fan art please oh please.
I don't know if it was glitch management or ross or egoraptor, but at some point someone decided to ensure that gameoverse was fully a product and not a piece of art. At least with digital circus you can see that gooseworx put his personal anxieties and fetishes that he liked in there, every decision related to gameoverse just feels so obviously calculated to generate revenue.

Based on how much merch was available immediately after the first episode I'm leaning towards glitch.

I genuinely despise this style of writing.
