I generally hate Deathmatch Wrestling, but if you feel you MUST have it around, the best approach is "less is more." The more over the top you get with the use of weapons, the less invested I get. If you have modern deathmatch fans watch old IWA deathmatch tourneys, they're not likely to find it interesting because a fair amount of those matches involve the competitors trying their best not to get hurt by the barbwire strewn about the ring. When Cactus Jack whips Terry into the barbwire ring ropes and Terry manages to stop himself just in time, you can actually hear some women in the audience scream. The audience shouldn't be constantly braying for blood, they should mostly be concerned for the safety of the people involved, and that requires actual fucking pacing. There is no pacing when it comes to AEW's garbage deathmatches, and that's why they're always fucking boring.

I saw a death match at GCW one time and the crowd started chanting “We want blood!” as they were setting up for the match with light tubes etc.

Probably in the minority here, but I really enjoy outlaw mud show death matches that end in a lot of blood.
Not much actual wrestling happens so it’s conflicting to call it wrestling in a way, but it’s fun.
Wish I had been able to see ECW’s matches back in the day with Blue Meanie and New Jack.
Maybe I’m just a freak that enjoys blood sports (because that’s ultimately what death matches are), but they have a time and place if that’s something that someone wants to see.

What did Nash mean by this?

We've only got a couple of weeks left until the Superbowl of wrestling and I'm not impressed by the card at all.
Hopefully they can turn this around and make some good stories here, starting tonight on raw. "Because I want the belt" is almost every story so far.

I'm excited for Vegas. I had a lot of fun last year. Planning on going to TJPW, Stardom, Marvelous, Bloodsport, the Despy Invitational, Spark Joshi, and will probably hit up Wrestlecon one morning. I just got back from a week in Texas following around TJPW on their tour, so it's been a pretty busy rasslin' schedule for me.

Nice. What are you looking forward to most?

Seeing Maki again. I guess it'll also be interesting to see if any of the TJPW girls remember me considering I'll have just met them all three weeks prior. Probably not, but maybe that's a good thing.

Joshi shit has been so choice lately I feel bad for Asuka, Kairi and Io being completely fucking wasted in WWE catering.

Yeah, Stardom has been pretty good lately. The "will Tam Nakano come back" tease is interesting. Business is still white hot while NJPW is still struggling. TJPW has been on fire this year too; the Texas tour drew 5,500 paid across four shows, they just had their biggest house ever on Sunday at Sumo Hall, and before Vegas they are making their Canadian debut with two shows in Vancouver which I think are both close to sellouts.

She seems like she would be cool and remarkably self-aware for a pro wrestler.
She's just the best.

I will die on the hill that Maki doing that fall over dead headbutt on to her opponent is still one of the funniest fucking moves in wrestling.

Maki vs Kairi and Nakano vs Io are my dream matches.

Am I being overly optimistic or did Stephanie McMahon just start Cody on his Homelander heel arc?
I actually agree here I hope Cody turns at Mania I don’t even care who goes over in the match just that Cody turns, I honestly think the third title run is the best way to start a heel arc, after a year long title run and a half year title run as a babyface the crowd starts to turn anyway especially now that social media exists obviously I think the winner of Punk vs Roman drops it to Breakker at Summerslam but they could easily have Cody go full Homelander this year have him beat down Orton senseless after the match I can think of at least 5 guys on the smackdown roster who could feud with Cody after wrestlemania

In today's WWE 2K26 patch, 2K made the Battle Passes a lot less scummy:

1774922225061.png

Players were given 20 free Battle Pass levels, and players who buy the game before Season 2 releases will be automatically leveled up to 20 in the Season 2 Battle Pass. EXP required per level will be reduced from 800 to 625 per level starting in Season 2, and Season 2 and on Battle Passes will unlock all 4 of the DLC Wrestlers at Level 1, so you don't have to grind to use them.

This is one example of the video game tactic of making something really greedy on launch, and then backtrack on some of those changes by saying "we've listened to your concerns". It also is a sign that the game hasn't sold well compared to past games, due to the poor reception to the Battle Pass, presumably not as many players were buying Tier Skips compared to NBA 2K, and more people requested for refunds (and some Nintendo Switch 2 players were able to get refunds from Nintendo).
