World Class Championship Wrestlingfuck do i even start as a nu-fan so i can enjoy sweaty man drama?
A typical Stone Cold match at the height of his popularity was glass shatter, milk theme music by standing on all four turnbuckles, punch, punch, jump on top of a guy straddling him, punch punch, throw him into the corner, sloppy stomps, double birds, stunner, beer chug.
He was overrated. Sorry to say, but there were plenty of guys who were much better than he was in the ring.
If I'm not mistaken, it was a case of good timing as Stone Cold's anti-authority attitude is a foil to Vinnie Mac who was hated for screwing Bret. Put them together and you have an instant likeable face of WWE. No doubt, Austin stunning Vince was what the people wanted to see.
I'll give some respect to Vince for being willing to be humiliated at that time. And him being beaten up was entertaining to say the least. Wish it happened the same to the Authority then maybe WWE's ratings during the late 2010s may not have slipped badly.Plus the 90s at that point had a strong anti-authority edge to it. Then you factor in Vince who was willing to be degraded and humiliated for the entertainment of the crowds, Vince was also pretty entertaining as the cartoonishly evil owner.
Clearly the higher power should've been Jeff Jarrett as he's the only true leader of the NWO.Wasn't it confirmed years later that the Higher Power was supposed to be Jake Roberts but Jake had relapsed hard and they kept stalling the reveal to try and find a replacement until they finally said "fuck it" and made it Vince?
Plus, being a brawler just fits the Stone Cold character better anyway. A wrestler's style should fit their persona.Congrats, you have discovered that skill isn't everything with a performance art like wrestling. People want someone they connect with and cheer for more than someone who is the most skilled wrestler. Why do think AEW is failing despite having a roster full of spotmonkeys like Omega and Ospreay who can exhaust you with every power rangers move known to man?
Why I never feel bad for owen hart. He took at least 5 years off Steve's career and turned Steve who was a great wrestler into a punch and kick brawler .look at stone colds match with Shawn at KoTR and then mania 14Plus, being a brawler just fits the Stone Cold character better anyway. A wrestler's style should fit their persona.
I ran a booth at BiMonSciFiCon for a minute, occasionally they'd have a wrestler.I spent a *very* small time in local wrestling as a trainee and the handshake thing is a weird tradition that every worker in the south/Appalachians still follow by. It's a respect thing but also there's a particular way you shake hands to to show that you're a "safe guy". Doc Gallows did a podcast some time back saying it's dying out because it doesn't fly in WWE.
Maybe one of Vince's best qualities is his willingness to show his ass (sometimes literally) in order to make the best entertainment and get the most out of every segment. Obviously Stephanie didn't inherit that trait and Triple "not allowed to look weak in the commercials for a video game" H was never going to really put anyone over that way. Instead you get Stephanie slapping and emasculating the entire roster every week and the only "comeuppance" she ever got was in the Roman match at Mania getting knocked off the apron and falling through a table (and I guess Rhonda jobbing her out when she debuted).I'll give some respect to Vince for being willing to be humiliated at that time. And him being beaten up was entertaining to say the least. Wish it happened the same to the Authority then maybe WWE's ratings during the late 2010s may not have slipped badly.
WUT? WUT? WUT? WUT? WUT?
How often have you heard the term Uncle Tom? Most likely, it was used in a degrading way. If you’ve actually read the literature, Uncle Tom was whipped to death for helping free two female slaves. I apologize for the use of the term Mr. Bogangles, it was in poor taste and obviously offensive. I just see talent being pushed in a direction that I disagree with. He should be the male version of Sol Ruca. More contemporary than urban. It’s funny how I’m usually the only person who pays attention to the development of black talent
KWAB"Big Soy" Kevin Nash was forced to apologize for wanting Je'Von Evans to have more edge and referring to him as Mr. Bojangles. He then turned it around to pat himself on the back for being a good ally.
I thought it was supposed to be Christopher Daniel's until Vince saw how skinny he was.Wasn't it confirmed years later that the Higher Power was supposed to be Jake Roberts but Jake had relapsed hard and they kept stalling the reveal to try and find a replacement until they finally said "fuck it" and made it Vince?
We did get thr greatest Undertaker moment out of that "Ill tell ya something say what if you fantasize about sleeping with sister" *dumb fuck marks* "WHUT?" *Taker makes disappointed face*That was the most annoying rassling-related call-out and response in decades.
That his everlasting legacy in the business. I would analyze him some more but I did not realize that the thread was full of people that are gay for Austin and hold him up as a sacred cow the way that neck beards do for CM Punk. That was the most annoying rassling-related call-out and response in decades.
When you apologize, it's the real life equivalent of feeding the trolls. One of the major reasons cancel culture died out was because people smartened up and realized the best way to deal with people demanding an apology is to double down and telling them to go fuck themselves."Big Soy" Kevin Nash was forced to apologize for wanting Je'Von Evans to have more edge and referring to him as Mr. Bojangles. He then turned it around to pat himself on the back for being a good ally.
Explanation to those of us who were toddlers in 1992, please?KWAB
He's definitely had an eye for black talent since that fateful night in the Summer of '92.
They're once was a man from Quebec,WWE is unfair!
Triple H is in there!
Standing at the concession!
Plotting his oppression!
That doesn't make sense on a timeline because Christopher Daniels was nobody until TNA.I thought it was supposed to be Christopher Daniel's until Vince saw how skinny he was.
Mr. Monday Night, duh.Who would be the face to rise up and eventually beat them?
But true per Bruce and Christopher, at the time they had literally zero foresight for the corporate ministry and were throwing any name out there even DiBiase who was still in WCW, the whole thing got shutdown before it even took off so yeah it doesn't sound feasible because it was a spitball idea. That doesn't make sense on a timeline because Christopher Daniels was nobody until TNA.
Honestly it sounds like somebody just saying some shit in hindsight to put themselves over after the fact, which is what I've noticed a lot of these old head wrestling people do, especially people who are managers and never wrestlers like Bruce "I was going to make the higher power Christopher Daniels" Prichard and Jim "I'm the guy who came up with the Montreal screwjob" Cornette. But true per Bruce and Christopher, at the time they had literally zero foresight for the corporate ministry and were throwing any name out there even DiBiase who was still in WCW, the whole thing got shutdown before it even took off so yeah it doesn't sound feasible because it was a spitball idea.
Almost every Attitude era main event was a big sloppy brawl after Bret/Shawn left up until Triple H took the belt and started working holds. Rock, Austin, Taker, Mankind , Kane etc none would win technical wrestler of the year. They all could do it but crash tv doesn't mix with 60 minute time limit draws.Congrats, you have discovered that skill isn't everything with a performance art like wrestling. People want someone they connect with and cheer for more than someone who is the most skilled wrestler.
