Undertaker just felt very different from his debut, there wasn't really anyone else like him in the WWF. I was legit scared of him when I was a kid until he became a good guy.

Mordecai was later. The Higher Power storyline was in 1999, Mordecai showed up in 2004.

From what I hear Taker was cool with working with him. Mordecai was supposed to feud with Eddie Guerrero but it got canned for one match with Hardcore Holly and then he just disappeared after jobbing to Rey Mysterio. The 2 most popular rumors why Mordecai failed was because he was inconsistent with his wrestling style. (Sometimes slow and methodical and other times wild brawling) or because Eddie refused to job to him.

I'm not sure either is true. And if he was causing any real problems he most likely wouldve been fired and the Kevin Thorne gimmick wouldn't have happened.

The date on the Hade Vansen thing was 2008, which is what I was referring to, sorry.

The only rumours I had heard regarding the higher power was that it could have potentially been Jake Roberts (which would've been a nice payoff from Austin's KotR moment) or Ric Flair (I might be getting my anecdotes mixed, but apparently Flair was circling the arena in a limo negotiating with Vince or Eric and was ' ' close to jumping back to WWF.)

I don't think Jake would've been that great a fit for the role, if only because his style of promos didn't jive with the over-the-top villainy that the Ministry was getting up to. If Jake is going to be the leader, then their methods should reflect his personality: cold, calculated, and meticulous. The Ministry would be less like a group of lunatics running around doing crazy shit and more like a sinister threat looming in the shadows and gradually corrupting and drawing in more and more wrestlers to their group. You could even fit a biblical allegory into it with Jake seeing himself as the serpent in the Garden of Eden that tempts Adam and Eve.

Imagine Jake cutting a promo like this to Vince after getting his boys to attack Stephanie.

I believe the Jake Roberts rumor was dirtsheet/internet gossip and wasn't actually under consideration. Jake was completely unreliable at the time. Jake wasn't signed to any promotion and had a reputation for no-showing appearances due to his alcohol/drug problems. Only a few months after the Higher Power reveal happened, Jake would do the infamous Heroes of Wrestling PPV (legitimately the worst wrestling show of all time) where he was fucked up and embarrassed himself.
 
Speaking of guys who never went anywhere here's the one of Bob Sapp being signed with WCW but the problem was it was November of 2000:
Well it's for the best because he would stay in Japan and be a shit MMA fighter but because he was a big nigger who could bulge his eyes and buckdance and bojangle on talk shows he became something of a celebrity.

On the subject of failed gimmick vignettes, does anyone else remember Trytan? He has a stinker of a debut match on PPV with a Russo finish and his push is immediately dropped. Also, what was character meant to be? It's like TNA wanted him to be a heel Ultimate Warrior with the symbol, but he wrestled like early 90s Undertaker.

Ted DiBiase would have also been a good higher power since he had history with both 'Taker and Austin in kayfabe (brought them both into the company). But I think at that time he wanted nothing to do with wrestling, and was born again and didn't like the lewd stuff on RAW.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, everything involving Jake Roberts is why I firmly believe DDP should qualify for Sainthood. I don't know what the fuck DDP Yoga is about, but if he was able to turn Roberts life around he can do basically anything

If WCW stayed alive with Bischoff at the helm, I could've seen him trying to pull an American version of Inokiism. He still had connections with New Japan and Toryumon (Dragon Gate) and planned on bringing in Toryumon guys to beef up the Cruiserweight Tag division. Keep in mind Shamrock was a free agent at this time, and Bas Rutten had an entertaining but brief wrestling stint in 2001/02. There was a lot of potential there to tap into the MMA craze early on, TNA didn't have the budget to do it and Vince didn't get it when Shane wanted to buy Pride. There was a lot of wasted potential there.

Never would have happened because Undertaker hated him to the point where he made the hardy boys go break toothpicks in the locks of his car, because taker was a known bully and piece of shit. Undertaker had his tongue so far up Vince McMahon's ass I'm surprised he was able to even shit on Janelle Grant's head.
He was basically JBL with a little bit of talent. Overrated as hell and I don't care if I get a negative react. You know what else was overrated as hell? Stone cold when he was a bad guy and just became annoying as fuck.
