The twitter posts in the bottom left corner on AEW TV is ghetto as fuck. This is some lol-TNA level shit.

I don't give a solitary shit about what Rizzlord42069 thinks about some random midcard who-gives-shit match on Collision.

Stop leaning into the utter fucking garbage that TKO/UFC/WWE have fallen in love with. It adds nothing to your show and you are more unique by not paying attention to this scutter.

So I was lapsed during AJ Lee's run. What's the appeal? She looks like a tiny Indian boy. Is it just because she would sometimes wrestle men and is le smol bean?
She never wrestled men, it’s WWE. She was one of the only people who obviously liked wrestling and wanted to be good at it on a roster genuinely made up of people Johnny Ace picked out of magazines. You got to know her on NXT season 3 where so many girls were just fucking terrible here’s this little nerd girl trying her best because she actually likes wrestling. Then she gets to the main show and they have her be a crazy slut, but a wholesome crazy slut. She’s not having miscarriages like the attitude era she’s just kissing everyone, it’s like the nerdy girl grew up to be attractive and since realizing it she’s gone a bit crazy using it. She’s kissing Kane she’s kissing punk she’s kissing Bryan. She’s stands up Bryan at their wedding to become Raw GM instead. Then she finally gets to get away from all that and settle down. That’s when she becomes the manager of Dolph Ziggler when Ziggler was the held down darling of the marks and having her to make him less boring made WWE feel okay putting the world title on him. He blew it by getting injured, but his incredible moment winning the belt was because he had her no doubt. During that time she feuds with Kaitlyn also from NXT season 3 and they have genuinely solid matches for the era especially in WWE, so now AJ is starting to get a reputation as one of the only WWE girls who cares about her matches. She breaks up with injury prone shitter Dolph and for the first time finally she’s allowed to be a wrestler she’s allowed to not have male focused storylines and she goes on a long ass title run. During this title run Total Divas the E! Reality show is starting and people like the Bella’s who are fucking trash and Eva Marie who’s beyond trash are getting all this focus to advertise Total Divas and they allow AJ to go on screen and just say what she genuinely thinks, she talks about being the only one who can wrestle while the Bella’s stand ringside literally screeching into their microphones. Now she’s cemented that not only is she practically the only girl who gives a shit to be any good at wrestling but she’s also the only girl of that era who can promo worth a shit. Until here comes AJ LEE 2. Insert Paige, Paige ends the long ass title run the night after mania and Paige is literally know as the anti diva(if you’ve seen modern Paige this Paige looked nothing like that and fit the bill of anti diva) now you’ve got two very non traditionally WWE women feuding over the belt and actually wrestling on the PPVs. You’re not getting hair whips in these matches or whatever Eva thought wrestling was. They bring back the crazy full force as AJ and Paige start trying to out lesbian each other licking each others faces and stuff. But then it all comes crashing down. Punk leaves. AJ doesn’t. Now there’s just a cloud over her. Will WWE continue to use AJ? Will she be asked to leave? Why didn’t she walk with her husband? Turns out WWE would just kinda sparingly use AJ for the reminder of her contract and basically pretend the connection wasn’t there despite fans now chanting CM PUNK during her matches, a disrespectful part of history now long forgotten. Then near the end AJ said fuck it and went scorched earth with WWE herself with two simple tweets.

IMG_5039.webp

These tweets are the women’s revolution. Not Becky. Not Charlotte. Not whatever WWE wants you to think in their documentary. These tweets happened and things started trending and Vince didn’t automatically start respecting women BUT he did see oh this is what fans want now, this is how you make money with the women now. So the women started to get more time and be allowed to wrestle, again, because of these tweets sparking, thousands of fan tweets not some NXT match Vince never saw. After that AJ just unremarkably finished up her career although she did retire at mania teaming with Paige.
TLDR: she’s one of if not the greatest CHARACTER in the history of the WWE women’s division by virtue of actually having one and having multiple branching storylines associated with it. She dragged WWE kicking and screaming into letting her wrestle and letting the women wrestle overall. She’s honestly more voice of the voiceless than CM punk has ever been. Where he ran away and then said shit she said it under contract and change actually got made.

People are excited because:

She’s the top female star of an era
She’s what Punk thinks he was
She’s Punk’s wife
She was known for great promos
She was hot with a look not often catered to in WWE
She’s crazy in kayfabe and for shoot and some people like girls like that.

well this is weird. TNT bundled with ESPN would change things, just who knows in what direction. Does it make WWE cease counter programming? Does it make WBD take AEW off streaming? Do they just say fuck it wrestling isn't a sport and keep it on HBO MAX as entertainment? This will change something IF it happens, but who knows.

they are fucking retarded. aj lee was fucking dogshit in the ring, did the same retarded angle of current liv morgan and shitted all over what could have been a great feud between danielson and punk.
It’s really funny you think Danielson vs Punk would have gotten as long of a feud in 2012 if a writer didn’t have the AJ Lee angle idea for it. You should thank her for it not being at most one match on RAW. The match she reffed between them was fun. It wasn’t the yummy ROH match you dreamed of, but it wouldn’t have existed at all without her.

this shit that was shit would have been even more shit its not the own you think it is my dude

I don't think AJ was any hot shit in the ring or on the mic, but she did have a connection with the audience and fans loved the shit out of her.

Did she hop, skip to the ring on Smackdown? Cos that was basically her gimmick -- grown woman with the mannerisms of a child.

Despite not really liking her, she was part of one of my favorite PPV posters (No Way Out 2012.)

aj lee was fucking HORRID. i was watching at the time dude, trust me
I was never sold either but to play devil's advocate it isn't like she had an Iyo Sky to work with during her era. Natalya was probably the "best" but fans never cared. Maybe Paige next but you can have arguments about her being overrated as well.

Daffney was the original crazy chick. RIP Daffney.
No the fuck she wasn’t. Luna and Sherri both had crazy gimmicks before Daffney stumbled into wrestling. Woman was a crazy devil worshipper before those two even. Bull Nakano became Bull Nakano in 84, she was a different flavor of crazy from Daffney and the ones I listed but she was certainly still crazy. People pretend Daffney meant something to the history of wrestling because of how she died but unfortunately she was in WCW at a really fucking terrible time then in TNA at a really fucking terrible time. She never had a chance to actually mean something unfortunately.

It looks like nobody has mentioned the departure of Maki Itoh from TJPW on the 26th, which to me was a combination of 9/11, Pearl Harbor, and every space shuttle disaster. I'm only being a smidge hyperbolic when I say that. I'm still at stage four of the Kübler-Ross model, and the whole thing is fucking bizarre.

A few days after August's big Korakuen Hall show, TJPW sent out an unceremonious Tweet saying that her contract expired and they couldn't come to terms on a new one. This was fucking nuts because:
  1. When someone leaves TJPW they announce it at least a month beforehand and market upcoming shows as a "graduation tour" as a way to sell tickets (be sure to see [X] wrestler at [Y] venue for the last time!). Then they have a big graduation show on their last contracted date where whoever is leaving wins in the main event and then everyone in the locker room comes out and says a few words and presents them with flowers and everyone cries because wahmen. This (usually) happens even if they are leaving for another company.
  2. She was on the marketing material for all the upcoming shows in September and October.
So this was very obviously a last minute thing and it's safe to assume that CyberFight thought they were going to come to terms. To not have a graduation tour for a main eventer who had been with the company for almost a decade is WILD too. I'm trying to come up with what an equivalent would be in WWE or AEW but it's difficult because TJPW doesn't work like other promotions. Trust me though, this shit was as surprising and confusing as an atom bomb to those who follow joshi.

I assume it had to be a money issue, and to let her walk over that is crazy shit given how over she is outside of Japan. I talked about going to all three shows they did this July in Texas, but I didn't mention how insane her merch numbers were. Both shows in Houston drew 600 people, and I'd estimate that at least half of those people ponied up the cash to get her autograph at $30 a pop. Then in Dallas they did that monster 2,500 seat house. I didn't stay for the meet and greet afterwards because I knew it would be a clusterfuck so I met everyone over the two nights in Houston, but there were reports on Twitter that she was there until 8:00 p.m. signing autographs. The show ended at 2:00. My conservative estimate is that she signed for 1,000 people on the tour, meaning that she pulled in $30,000 worth of autographs over three days and very possibly did more in sales than the rest of the 13 girls they brought over combined. I don't know what she was asking for in the new contract, but the company has been harping on how they want to increase their presence overseas, so to let that golden goose walk must have meant she made some outrageous demands.

Now with all that said, I'm 99% sure she isn't signed elsewhere as I type this. Her OnlyFans and Pro Wrestling Tees shop are still online, and there isn't another promotion on the face of the planet outside of TJPW that would allow a contracted employee to keep both of those. Unless I'm getting worked hard (and I really don't think that I am), she walked from Tokyo Joshi Pro without having another contract lined up, and if it really was a money issue that made her walk, that doesn't make a whole lot of sense. It's likely that she's fishing for something, as she said a couple of days after all this went down, something along the lines of "I don't know how long I'm going to be able to keep this OF page up so enjoy it while it lasts", but as of now she's claiming that she's freelancing and is not retired. She hasn't taken any new dates though, which again is making me scratch my head. On top of that, she had enough seniority in TJPW where she could take off as much time as she wanted working indies in North America and Europe, primarily GCW. Again though, if she did simply want more money, there is no way in fuck she is going to be able to make it working Japanese indies and GCW, unless the latter is paying for all of her travel and incidentals on the road which would add up FAST flying her back and forth from Japan.

I also don't think she's moving to the States, as she keeps talking on her OF blog about how she's looking for new apartments in Tokyo. Again, I think I know enough about how she operates to conclude that's not a work and she isn't debuting in AEW any time soon. She probably would sign a contract if Tony called her up, which I'm dreading the possibility of. I would go from watching my favorite every week on a show I love to having to watch her on a show I despise on the rare occasions Tony digs her out of the toy box. And I suppose anything is possible, but I could never see WWE signing her. I suppose there's a long shot that TNA winds up with her. Best case scenario would be Stardom, but I don't know man. The whole situation is bizarre and making me depressed as fuck. TJPW isn't the same without her.

Don't forget Woman down in Florida in the late 80s when she was portraying a cult member that people actively believed was real.

I mean she did fuck off right as the women's division was starting to explode with Charlotte, Becky, Bailey and Sasha. I always got the impression she bounced because she knew she couldn't hack it with the new generation because lets face it she can't.

Whoops, I forgot about them bitches. My bad!

WWE recently signed Kelly Kelly to a legends contract. She is famous for being barely able to run the ropes. She's the punchline for every joke about how bad the Divas era was.

In ring ability is the last thing WWE cares about when it comes to their female workers. It's a happy accident when they sign/push someone who can actually work a match.
