WWE had a choice between keep paying Brock for years or buying out his contract and moving on. Vince clearly liked Brock (too much) and set him up with a sweetheart deal to keep him around no matter what. I'm curious how much time there is left on that deal because if there's a year or even less, it could have been a "fuck it, let's get SOMETHING out of Brock before he's gone for good" decision.

Oh, god.
Some old bit of Taimapedia (RIP, this was one of kirtaner's sites, so it died along with 420chan) lore came back to me.
So, they had a LOLWWE history page. One of the sections there was Jack Swagger's first world title reign, titled "You Just Haven't Earned It Yet Baby"
Then, a music video of his "highlights" as champion was there, with this song:
Sadly, that video was deleted. It was well done, basically showed that even a stiff wind could beat Swagger during that period. No idea why Vince McMahon fucked him over like that, he fit the physical profile Vince likes. Big. Tall. Can roar like a monster. I guess he couldn't get over the lisp?
(This was long before that time Swagger got busted with weed)

He simply didn't stick, they gave him the WHC waaay to early, when he was still warm at best as a heel and they just rushed it in giving him everything before he can do anything with his new earned push. After that, there wasn't too much to do with him.

It still baffles me that the guy was the last Lucha Underground champion, that's how you know that the promotion was on its dying bed.

WWE fans reacting like children to criticism towards WWE is so on brand I have to think the people doing it in this thread are in on the parody.

I feel like he never found where his strengths lie in regards to his character work. When I first saw him, I was surprised to hear that he was a heel because he looks like a lovable goofball jock from a nineties sports film.

I started showing a best friend of mine the wacky world of pro wrestling, I'm showing him the first episode of Nitro and Raw. He seemed hooked right from the start.

He disliked the DQ finishes on Nitro, oh boy will he be in a treat for that. I need to show him stuff from Japan to get him hooked for good because with Nitro only he'll get bored fast.

Show him the Hell in a Cell match.

It’s no different than the people who defend AEW. All wrestling fans are autistic spergs.
This is your Semi-Regular Reminder - the worst thing about Wrestling is Wrestling Fans.

For WWE’s many faults, going after the Casual Audience has made them the biggest game in town, because the Casual Audience, while still retarded, isn’t as full Pants on Head as the IWC

This match was my intro to wrestling:

Pre-steriods, pre-busted knees Rey Mysterio vs Dean Malenko. Rey is unbelievably acrobatic in the match and it was one of the few times I watched wrestling thinking "how did he do that?".

Dean is no slouch here. There's a few times in the match where Dean just legit slams Rey with no regard. He's the perfect counterbalance to Rey flying around the whole time. Underrated feud looked over in favor of Rey's later stuff.

Lol at the reports that they were paying Brock his full salary during the two years they couldn't use him. So much for Vince being great at negotiating, it sounds like he just threw everything at Brock that he could. You know the suits were seething this whole time while Brock just went hunting and got paid millions for nothing. Also lmao he won't even fly out for the Paris PPV, suffer TKO.
Good. Excellent even.
It’s not like Vince paid the price though- he was already cashing out.

That’s the thing everyone kvetching about what wwe is doing now needs to realize they don’t give a shit and are after the normies now. They don’t like then VPN and torrent that shit and move on.

This cannot be emphasized enough, WWEs target audience aren’t 40 year old neckbeards soying the fuck out over a le 5 star Bryan Danielson match at Forbidden Door hell even the more reasonable Hardcore fanbase like many of us are aren’t a big priority for TKO the normalfag money is just too good to pass up, Wrestling fans have earned the reputation of being one of the most obnoxious kill joy retards, like those neckbeards who would shit on 10 year old Cena fans during the PG era in the crowds it’s just shocking behavior to a certain point, I can understand much of TKOs mentality even if I disagree with some of it, you give these morons an inch they take a mile

My guess: Hogan stays in AWA, but Verne keeps honeydicking the AWA title and fans continue to leave. In a late, desperate attempt, Verne finally puts the belt on Hogan but way after anyone gives a fuck. The territory dies, Hogan goes to Vince or JCP and becomes a midcarder and a footnote in history.
Verne Gagne, along with being old school about wrestling and promotion, did not see the value in merchandising. Hogan has overblown over the years how much influence he had in inventing wrestling merch (for example, claiming that WWWF didn't have magazine and shirt sales until he showed up) but at the end of the day, AWA was terrible at merchandising and modern advertising. Hulk was the Nikola Tesla of merchandizing compared to Verne.

On top of no real investment into merchandising, Verne expected pretty much all merch sales go to him. It literally encouraged talent to not work that side of the business.

Also, keep in mind, Verne Gagne never had signed contracts with talent. It was all handshakes which is a retarded way of doing any sort of business. And like Cornette mention, Hogan was smart to learn from other wrestlers.

Looking back, it's amazing AWA lasted as long as it did. Just to give a taste of what Verne had and he let slip away, Hulk v Brockwinkle. Verne would do three of these matches where Hulk would win and then they would overturn it for a rule violation.
You got Hogan, Nick Brockwinkle, Bobby the Brain in the corner. Mean Jean Okerland is the ring announcer. The pop for Hulk is crazy.

Verne thought this couldn't print him money.
That's cool hope it does well for him. Like Sabu, I think Raven really doesn't get his due because his best stuff was in ECW but before they got PPV/TNN. And even if you weren't a fan of his wrestling he has some of the most entertaining shoot interviews of all time especially the Sandman series.
It's because he is responsible for Disco Inferno.

I don’t buy that as the reason he didn’t stick. Sheamus was given the same treatment yet he made it work better.
Swagger’s problem was his lack of personality.
He was supposed to be Kurt Angle 3.0 but didn’t have the charisma for the dorkier sides to come across as funny, nor intense enough for his in-ring work to be memorable and captivating.
Jack Swagger is what Kurt would’ve been if he insisted on his olympic feats being enough to carry him with the crowd and not turn heel.

That reminds me of some faggot from cagedsideseats who made an article on how he was so proud to have shat on a kid in a WWE show who was a fan of Roman Reigns 'cause "muh smarkness."

Typical IWC no-lifers.

His lisps likely held him back too as Vince used to love humiliating guys with speech impediments and Jack didn't have the time to get rid of it like Cody did.
