I can’t understand why I’m supposed to care more about Dave’s takes vs any basement dweller who writes reviews for Cagematch.net.

I get that Dave has been doing this for what 40 years now? And Bret Hart even mentions in his book how proud he was to get a 4 Star rating from Meltzer. I mean congrats to both him and Jim Cornette for finding ways to still get attention, a lot of the old sports writers failed to adapt to the modern era so that’s impressive by itself.

Dave still thinks that paying $11.99 to read and watch all of his shit is still a sustainable model in 2025 and I guess it seems to be if he still has paypigs willing to buy his thoughts on shit although it is a declining number since he mostly wastes his time arguing with people on twitter.
 
with this Cornette controversy it honestly wouldn’t surprise me if he is still that butthurt over Hogan because of the WWF killing the territories in the 80s, political disagreements are surely a factor but you also have to look out how much of a massive sperg Cornette is when it comes to 70s and 80s wrestling

It's never been explained how a wrestlers union would even work. I think the advent of guaranteed contracts in wrestling and the nature of the business has made the need for a union largely moot. Wrestlers in the big promotions aren't working matches 300+ days of the year and aren't being forced to work through injuries (though some choose to) like they were back in the day. Pay isn't reliant on the number of tickets sold or what the gate is. What would they actually want now, not to be fired ever until their contract is up? All that would result in is fewer people being hired and contracts being a lot shorter. It just doesn't make any sense in wrestling for a union to exist.

That’s hysterical if anyone under 100 years old actually bemoans that Vince turned WWF into a national brand. Of all the actions committed by Vince ending the territory system was not remotely evil it was forward thinking business sense.

Vince saw the beginning of cable broadcast networks and Pay-Per-View. That was the obvious future and if Vince hadn’t moved first it would have been done by another territory. Bret Hart has a whole chapter in his book about this he went with Stu Hart to the Wrestling Carnie Summit and Vince told all of them his plans.

None of those 80s WWF wrestlers lament the end of the territories. I’ve watched enough interviews they all worshipped Vince because a check from WWF was multiples higher than the ramshackle territories of the old school. And they all worshipped Hulk Hogan because Hulk sold tickets.

I’d love to know when WWF stop paying wrestlers based on ticket sales because much of the old bitter feuds is a result of that. There’s videos of Jake The Snake Robert’s calling Bret and Shawn Michaels losers because New Generation had a slump in sales. What was most fascinating to me was that the Champion just got the highest pay of anyone because he was champion. Shawn & Bret’s rivalry was real because they were literally fighting for the biggest payday.

im mistaken actually I heard there was some drama on twitter but I just looked on his twitter and he really hasnt said much yet,I do hope he can remain nice at least with what Hogan did for the business, Cornette believes Trump is a fucking retard and a charlatan (which he is, to be fair) and was upset when Hogans speech at the RNC, Jim is also very sentimental about the territories and Hogan basically was a major reason the WWF got massively popular to the point where Crockett merged all the Southern Territories into WCW, Jim is definintely the guy to hold grudges in that regard

I agree, while I definintely understand Vince Senior's mentality for its time that were all making money here so who the fuck cares, but Vince Junior for all his faults was a visionary in terms of getting Wrestling to where it is now, Cornette for sure has that mentality that there being one massive promotion in the United States is a bad thing (even though he worked for the WWF in the late 90s), and thats coming from a guy who generally thinks monopolies are a bad thing

Not just that, but being in a program with Hogan at the peak of his popularity meant big money for his opponents. It's arguably one of the reasons Paul Orndorf kept working despite the arm issues he was having at the time.
