Besides the Punk stuff I enjoyed this PPV a lot.

I liked both wargame matches bc it was not just spamming brutal moves and turning everything into a bloody mess. Anyone noticed that in none of the two matches anyone left looking like a slaughtered pig? Both had a lot of little things going on and I especially liked how both heel teams had a plan for their matches.
Expected Bailey to eat the pin bc it will fuel the angle of her being kicked out of the group.
Expected Orton to turn on his team and turning him immediately heel bc of Jey but I'm not mad that they didn't do that. In fact I'm glad they didn't do it and like the way they booked everything way more. In fact it was perfect the way they booked everything for the end of the men's wargames match. I popped really hard when Orton showed up.

Escobar vs Dragon Lee could have been a bit longer. Escobar should have ripped off Lee's mask after he won, then have the two other LWO guys who have no names come out to help Lee and Escobar beats them up just to make Escobar more evil. But I liked the match.

The other two matches were fun. Nothing special and more business-as-usual but I liked it. Not every match needs to have twists and turns and surprise finishes and shit.

Ngl I popped massively when Punk showed up. Not bc I'm a huge fan of him but I absolutely didn't expect it. Like they had no reason at all to bring him in and given his reputation and how a lot of people already are expecting drama I honestly thought they wouldn't do it. But on the other side they created probably the wrestling moment of this year with his return. Without someone in another promotion insisting on doing a glass spot this wouldn't have been possible. Weird how things sometimes play out 🤔

Per Dave:
  • It's a multi-year deal
  • Deal was finalized about 8 days ago, nobody knew except Triple H, Nick Khan, and a couple of others, that includes the higher ups at TKO/Endeavor
  • Talent was informed about his return shortly before the main event
  • Seth reaction was 100% a work
  • Drew McIntyre thing was legit, left the building in a huff right after getting backstage, unclear if he was upset over Punk or if it's not related
So it's safe to conclude that

-It's a one year deal
-Deal was finalized 24 hours ago. Everybody knew
-Talent was informed years go
-Seth's reaction was 100% a shoot
-Drew McIntyre thing is a work

Thanks for clearing it all up Dave

Yeah the guy who was worked by his sources into thinking Cuck Man wasn't coming back is one hundred percent certain that what Seth did was a work And what Drew did wasn't. Why are we listening to Meltyass again?
Because for as Autistic as Meltzer is, he’s unfortunately the lesser evil - with how many dirt sheets and wrestling news channels just cite him, it’s done a fairly decent job of gate keeping Modern “Journalists” out of covering Wrestling. Granted it’s almost completely by accident, but still.
Drew McIntyre thing was legit, left the building in a huff right after getting backstage, unclear if he was upset over Punk or if it's not related
Also this is the only point I can see being legit - Drew’s contract I believe is up soon, and if they couldn’t agree on money, only to then spent god knows how much to bring in a broken down CM Punk, I can believe he’d be pissed.

Drew should stand his ground for higher pay since he's a guy both Vince & Hunter likes. But him going to aew or tna would suck because they'll push some charisma vacuums before him.

There's like three sites out there with their own sources, everyone else just cites them. It's a good business though. Just look at Wrestletalk.

Drews contract is up in April 2024, Doesn't seem like he's going to get what he wants since it's not just about money but his position in the company. He can probably go for another five years at the very least, but they brought in Phil who probably can't wrestle two months before another injury. If he does leave though he'd do better in Japan and without a faction. Just a lone wolf talking out people like his indie run. Probably either doing King or Ark Style just to keep on wrestling for a few more years. He also looks good enough to get some of Prince Devitt's deals and maybe some movies.

The Drew thing is obviously part of the story. They had him do something similar about a week or so ago where he showed up to RAW and then immediately left.

AEW fans when “Drew Galloway” doesn’t show up at Revolution 2024.

Nah that’s bullshit. He left the War Games cage before Punk debuted and he was signaled by the cameraman if you watch the footage.

Honestly it makes sense that WWE are lowballing Drew on contract negotiations, the AEW bubble has completely popped and there's not a single WWE wrestler who could threaten to leave and go to AEW that would frighten the WWE at this stage. If Drew is so desperate to leave he's welcome to join the laundry list of 'underused WWE talent' that somehow ended up being put in worse positions like Andrade, Malakai Black, Miro, Samoa Joe, Cesaro (remember him?) and many more.

Hell, over the past few months AEW has signed Kota Ibushi, Jay White and Will Ospreay and you know for a fact that at least one of them will end up shoved in the same bracket as those other guys either through an extended Chris Jericho feud, a random tag pairing that sucks all the heat out of them or succumbing to the cancer that is the TNT title picture.

I'm guessing they're gonna use Punk to basically eject Cody out of the whole Judgement Day spat and have him continue on with Roman, probably with a mini-program with Orton for the next PPV or whatever cos Orton doesn't stay face for very long.

CM 'Glass Bones' Punk could be slotted into random tag matches and shit vs. Judgement Day.
So you're saying Punk is gonna Nexus the Judgment Day...

Did someone on /pw/ predict Phil would carnie AEW to get back in WWE because he needed money for bad investment deals years ago? :story:

... he is literally incapable of shutting his mouth about Punk, isn't he?
Especially after he tried to cancel him ever since the scrum / totally real backstage fight nobody has any evidence of ...

I bit the bullet based on my post earlier in this thread and watched the Wargames PPV.
Mcintyre looks a lot different than I remember and honestly I enjoyed him just manhandling people, there was a neat spot with Seth Rollins and Cody(who is also a lot different than I remember) fighting a bit over a rope and going "One night without fighting each other) and then hitting someone in the balls with him, and Orton being built like a fridge was neat, I wasn't even aware this was some big return for him because he did more or less what I remember him doing
>walks out to a big crowd reaction
>floors a bunch of people
>does that rope DDT move
>sets up an RKO
>crowd goes wild

But you know what, it was neat.
I can't say I really cared much about the other matches although I found that one japanese lady wearing a literal trash can and doing a leap from the cage was pretty fucking funny for some reason.

Only person in that list that isn't being used well is Andrade, but he does have an attitude problem. Rush doesn't seem to want anything to do with him now and doing his own thing with his brother and Vance. Black does his own thing on Collision, Miro has his thing with his wife, Samoa Joe has his story with MJF. Cesaro is wrapped in the whole Malakai crap. I don't see Kota doing much until he get's his Visa to live there since that's what he wants to do. I do see Jay working with Jericho after the tournament. Will, not sure what he'll be doing. Seems like something with MJF.

With everyone doing their own thing it feels like watching wrestling in the 80's with the champion having multiple people after him instead of flavour of the month.
