He's not the greatest commentator of all time, but he's far from as bad as some of us would like to remember/think

Sadly majority of wrestling communities I've seen seem to just buy into "Cole is just awful" because it is simply an easier excuse
 
I'll rank mania at a 5 out of 10. The undercard was solid and one of the best in a while. But the two main matches did not deliver at all and WWE seems to have forgotten how to use the biggest stage of it all to make stars.

Maybe, just maybe Vince decided that since he had to change his booking two years in a row to fit what the fans wanted, this one was for him and we are just paying the price?
 
Maybe I'm just old and cynical and haven't been desensitized by exposure to the current product (I p much only watch the big 3 PPVs and maybe Raw once in a great while) but this was one of the worst manias ever. I don't even really have a problem with the booking cuz their booking has been trash since the end of the attitude era. There was a lot of subpar work in the ring. Most of the promos were dead in the water. Most of the matches were boring af. I have no idea how you can put Brock Lesnar and Dean Ambrose in a fucking street fight and still have the match be a fucking snoozefest, but they figured it out.

Everyone in the Attitude Era used that formula. Including Benoit and Angle. Fucking Bret Hart wrestled almost identically to Triple H, and he's justly regarded as one of WWE's best workers ever.

We have a shitty product now because the show's too damn long for anyone but hardcore fans to watch, but Vince is still booking like they'll get casuals back even though that'll never happen until the show goes back to a more reasonable length.
 
I was thinking of XXVII the one with Miz over Cena.

Im hoping the rumor of another brand split is true.
 
A quick rundown of what I thought:
Kalisto vs Ryback - I was surprised how enjoyable the match was, it wasn't the most amazing match ever but it was fun (The top rope delayed vertical superplex was my favourite move of the night ), my second favourite match.

The Usos vs. The Dudley Boyz - Boring, not a good match at all, the Usos seem like they could be a lot more interesting, they are way too vanilla and kid friendly for my liking but I guess maybe that is the demographic they are going after?

Team Total Divas vs. Team B.A.D. and Blonde - I had low expectations but found it to be an okay match! It didn't overstay it's welcome and the pace was also pretty good.

Personally I think Eva Marie has been improving and has the potential to be a great heel so I'm not sure at all why she was on the good guys side (I was expecting her to betray her team mates).

Ladder IC Match - A good match and also best the match of the night in my opinion.

The after match promo was really weird though, I get Ryder is HYPED ( ;)) about winning but shouldn't he be looking forward to defending his title and not practically be saying "I can die happy now"?

Y2J vs AJ Styles - I don't get why people like AJ Styles, this was a pretty average match, Y2J is fun to listen to though.

The New Day vs. The League of Nations - This was an okay match, good intro by New Day.

Ambrose vs Lesnar - Why do they bother with street fights/hardcore matches anymore? They don't seem to allow anything too violent or blood so it's just a tease when they show barbed wire baseball bats or whatever.

It was another mediocre match which is a shame because the lead up promos were good where Ambrose gathered his weapons and Ambrose also seems to have a lot of potential so this was really anti-climatic.

Divas Championship Triple Threat - After seeing what they can do on NXT this was disappointing.

Shane McMahon vs. The Undertaker - Aside from the leap of faith from the top of the cage this was yet another average and mostly boring match.

Battle Royal - A fun match, the surprise appearances of Tatanka (Including his top rope finisher) , Shaq and DDP were nice and I'm a fan of Baron Corbin so pretty good!

Rock/Wyatt - The talking segment were great but basically a non match done to make a record.

HHH/Roman - Great intro by HHH/Stephie (They tried so hard to be the bad guys but it was never going to work..), boring match, was half expecting a big heel turn by Roman beforehand but nope.

He had some great matches with Mick Foley back in 2000 if that's not just nostalgia talking.

Trips can have a good match with a great guy but he will always eternally be "the guy who worked with The Guy".

He always had great matches before he tore his quad and packed on about two stone -- as the English would say -- in PED weight. But you can say similar stories about lots of WWE's guys. Triple H lost a significant step physically, but he was still great afterwards and still is great today. Hell, I'd go as far to say he was the best wrestler in the company before his quad tear. Losing a step from that level's no shame.

Does he get preferential treatment? Of course! But even before he was stuppin' the Boss's Daughter, he was part of Vince's inner circle because of his abilities as a wrestler, his mind for the business in general, and his fantastic look. He'd've remained in that spot no matter who he married, much like The Undertaker and HBK or Cena and Orton.
 
Hunter is still pretty good - not great anymore, but pretty good - and came off a real standout match with Ambrose last month. The problem is this Roman push. If they used a time machine to put Roman against Hogan the day after Bash at the Beach 96, the crowd would be cheering for the Hulkster.

I just finished watching Mania. Just some random observations:

- The commentary is all over the place. When they were supposed to be concerned during the HIAC they sounded like they were reading a grocery list, but I think the worst was when they were laughing and joking and counting suplexes during Lesnar-Ambrose. How about being worried that Ambrose is so crazy and stubborn that Lesnar will have to injure him permanently to win the match? Wasn't that the storyline?
- I really wanted to like the HIAC. Taker is Taker and Shane at least always works hard. But it was just punch-punch-saunter over to the next spot everyone has seen coming for the last minute-bump-forget to sell-punch-repeat. It was so bland Shane's highspot was completely wasted.
- Can someone explain what is the upside to having three retired guys bury your tag team champs and the the 1st contenders right after their really good match?
- To say something positive, the show was entertaining up to the women's match. I even liked the street fight that really wasn't much of a street fight but I felt that Brock's physicality and Heyman's and Ambrose's psychology carried it.
- Triple H got one corny, cheapo, rinky-dink entrance. I did dig Stephanie's leather clad witch look though.
- The show was long. So very, very long...
