I don't know, you'd think they'd want to show off the more impressive of the two feats. If there's some super technical/difficult bug required for any% it would be a good showcase, but if not it's just a wasted opportunity.

Reminds me of the Binding of Isaac run from a few years ago where the runner ran a seeded run that gave him extremely OP items quickly. There was 0 tension, the entire run was so boring that even chat was pissed.

The issue for GDQ is that it started making a fucking shit ton of money. Enough money where people could start seriously grifting and taking on big corporate sponsors. Once that happens, those people who were previously "a bunch of autists on a couch" who are now making $120k/year for doing 2 shows a year are going to do whatever they can to make sure the money keeps flowing.

Trannies in GDQ is just the easy way for free "progressive" points and lets them do "women's only" events.

i see this as a failure on their part where they cannot get legitimate women into "competitive" "sports" and instead make men troon out to fill that quota. They fucked up affirmative action in their progressive circles which is hilarious and without making any actual change to women not being objectified in video gaming spaces. All of this is alphabet soup im typing but i digress.

Also, you can't blame them for easy money. Theyll deny that it isn't true and that the hosts are in it for more than just the money and state some altruistic lie, but to be an event organiser at 120k? Set for life.

His youtube icon is some Dark Souls character doing a track suit Slav squat, and there are a few of his older vids that have what you can safely presume are him speaking over the footage; his accent sounded eastern Euro stilted rather than Oriental stilted.

But honestly, those sorts of videos would be more of filler content, since the presenter have to go back and edit them down to remove all the dead air in it - after all, several of his videos have death montages and would probably be boring as shit to watch raw. It'd be nice filler, but still filler, unless some of the goofy shit in it was later used by a "proper" runner in the event or something.

I can't believe I forgot about AOE2. You're right about that one, and they're not afraid to do funny gimmicky shit like Forest Nothing, stacking tech mods, and Viper smurfing.

Why troons hate him? He is pretty milquetoast and didn't say anything against them. Was one of the texts in his runs?
 
This reaffirms my belief that the only good speedrun event left is the soul blazer memorial race. One game, two hours, once a year, honoring a cool dude who died in a shitty way as commentated by people who actually know the game. If GDQ was just open speedrun races for every game commentated similarly I'd background the hell out of it all week even if the games were shitty.

GnGR being run on a difficulty other than Legend is proof skill in speedrunning is dead. That game is nintendo hard and if it was Legend I'd legitimately tune in for it and actually watch.

Agreed; I kinda phrased that badly. Given his blindfolded battletoads showcase and ridiculous cuphead skill he's one of the few I'd expect to be actually able to pull off GNGR Legend which makes me wonder why it's a Squire run. It seems like one of those situations where the game's just being pushed onto the schedule for meme reasons (similar to BotW a few years back) when the runners are still figuring out the nuances.

The hosts are 100% trying to use the event to grow their audience (same as the runners), which is partially why the event is dying the way it is.

It's also worth pointing out that GDQ is such a great scam that no one really knows how much money it makes. There's the donation total, sure, which is usually over a million in cash and they probably take a bit off the top of it - but there's the promotional considerations. Sponsorships, brand deals, product placement, commercials, twitch subscribers, you name it - GDQ does it.

I'm no expert in how much money this all would be worth, but I would be shocked if the event wasn't making $5,000,000 in profit that isn't required to be donated to the charity in any capacity, per event.

They don't have even have any real expenses. The staff is nearly 100% volunteer, the "talent" is 100% volunteer, the staff has to pay for their own travel, their own food, and they have to bring their own equipment to the show.

Someone (probably a bunch of people) are making some serious fucking money from this. All they need to do is trick a bunch of twitch wannabees into donating free labor for a week - twice a year - and it'll keep rolling in. It's pretty genius.

I'm hoping for some outburst when people realize someone is speedrunning Factorio, watching troons play random vidya is boring and the only entertaining thing left in life is collective hysteria.

Checked out Games done quick back in 2015 or 16 and never again. These Donation messages were so cringe inducing I almost died of ear-cancer.
Rather watch a YouTube video of a speedrun if I ever feel like it.
And now it’s dilation-central might as we’ll be named „self mutilation done quick“.
