There was a great docu series on 1860 (maybe posted 6 months ago in thread, maybe it was on Sportschau?). The history is fascinating, although obviously it didn't cover this current chaos. Sure sometimes it all works out- just look at PSG. But when it doesn't, the club could cease to be.

Yeah, Sportschau did a little series about them (and other clubs but the 1860 one was the best of them).

Another update:
1. The Jordanian investor responded and his legal team is starting to do what legal teams do.
2. 1860 fans are starting to refund their season tickets. Numbers are thrown around. Like 8000 season tickets worth 4 million euros had been purchased and the tickets might be worth shit bc of the incoming bankcruptcy.

Those are some good awful kickoff times at the world cup for us eurocucks :(

You're entering the Hulkamania timezone, brother.
I knew years of being a UK wrestling fan would pay off. Can't wait to be up until 5 watching some shitty Panama match before grabbing an hour of sleep and heading to work.

I'm loving the forced controversy of the world cup mind, the media are full on with "The US is a fascist dictatorship" and it's funny as fuck. Turns out, if you've got a criminal record you can't get into the US and that's somehow incredibly surprising to travelers.

The US is a fascist dictatorship unlike the past 2 world cups who were hosted by thriving democracies that the media loves
Honestly you could make the argument that the last World Cup free of corruption was Germany 2006.

It's spellbinding how this World Cup is being compared to the fucking Munich Olympics or some shit like that when we've had Qatar (literally slave labour), South Africa (all the shit regarding that), Russia (Which, tbh was considered the 'good guys' back then but is still the heccin Ukraine genocider) and Brazil (not as bad as the other three but corruption is remarkable) in LIVING MEMORY.

Every single bad person or bad thing is directly compared to Hitler or Nazi Germany, even if there's a more relevant recent example that's much more on the nose.

Meanwhile I'm just looking forward to the Germany vs Curaçao match because I'm going to witness the greatest bloodbath since Saudi Arabia last competed.

And Saudi Arabia managed to buy their way into hosting 2034. I'm sure their PR budget is gonna be in full force leading up to it. Speaking of, of the 15 stadiums planned to host games, 10 of them are brand new, and here's what they're supposedly going to look like. Oh, and they're probably not gonna serve alcohol either.

From first to last, these new stadiums are:
1. King Salman International Stadium
2. South Riyadh Stadium
3. Prince Mohammed bin Salman Stadium
4. New Murabba Stadium
5. ROSHN Stadium
6. Qiddiya Coast Stadium
7. Jeddah Central Development Stadium
8. King Abdullah Economic City Stadium
9. Aramco Stadium
10. NEOM Stadium, which is part of that The Line development project, which might be the first(?) infrastructure project that deserves its own thread.

So with the world cup starting soon I wonder: How hyped are people in your country, around you, etc and how hyped are you?

Not hyped as 2022 for obvious reasons but it is everywhere in media.

Imagine all ads in youtube having something to do with the WC even when it is tangentially related to it. Samsung using it to sell TVs, airbnb using it to sell the idea that you can have your own watch party and so on.

Surprisingly for the media it is quite a interesting fact: from the first time ever since 2002, other TV station will exhibit the games. Two TV stations this time. However only half of the games.

However you will be able to watch all 104 matches for free on YouTube. The only problem will be our country game in case of we scoring because of the delay since TV is faster than streaming. This already happened last WC.

As for myself this WC squad may be one of the worst since 2014. The 2023-2025 may be one of the most dreadful campaigns ever and we were behind a team that started with -5 points. Watching them play is a certified disaster, it is nothing like the hope that we all had in 2022 from an almost perfect qualifiers. It wouldn't surprise me if we get grouped at all since for 3.5 years we have witnessed some bottom of the barrel football.

We won't get even close to then finals, but if we get there and win, Jesus Christ, I will finally live that 2002 day that was the closest I could ever see complete happiness in the world, a true utopia that I am ever chasing.

The improbability field is in full effect around the USMNT. The coverage on the Germany friendly was so over the top and pro homer, that I switched to the Spanish broadcast. (Worth it to hear the GOOOOOOOOAAAAL yell.)

That said, the US kits are moving. I'm glad I got mine when I did because all the fat man sizes are temporarily sold out online. There are still a ton of kits in sporting goods stores though, but typically the cheaper versions.

In the US at least, some of the fever is tempered not just by the level of play of the home team, but also by the seriously expensive costs of tickets. FIFA will talk about how the stadium experience is elevated and it's not as expensive as the Super Bowl - well guess what? Most fans can't afford a Super Bowl (which is why the crowd sucks for those), and while yeah, I can now get a $30 craft beer in addition to a $15 Budweiser in the stadium, it's a good 5+ hour event because of how shit parking and road access is, security theater, etc. (Most MLS games do not have these problems.)

So I'll be watching from home, dealing with lunatics who don't understand why the US (and Mexico) aren't doing as well as they were told they would. Mexico's decline in particular should be the stuff of YouTube documentaries, but then they'd have to confront some uncomfortable truths about what's happening in that country, which mirror the issues going on with their futbol.

Of course, the English media have pumped up how brilliant England will do, "bringing it home".

Last night England were fucking awful against a New Zealand team, already demoralised by a 4-0 thumping by Haiti on Wednesday, and scraping a 1-0 victory.

Seen the excuses pumped out by England "it was too hot" "the pitch was poor" "we have not acclimatised". The same as NZ then?

Once England are knocked out, the media will turn on the team and manager.

Fuck watching England, one of the most boring International teams to watch play. I'm glad I was alive and can remember what it was like to win in 1966.

I got the ugly 2022 home shirt because it'd be cheaper and nobody would want it. Even an XL is very tight. Feels like an M almost. I also have this third kit jersey from 95 or 96 that I really like, it's a light blue instead of the navy blue away.

Denmark vs Ukraine was abandoned after Christian Eriksen appears to have had another heart attack on the pitch. Thankfully the pacemaker he got after the previous one appears to have done it's job and he was able to walk himself off. Even so, that has to be it for him now, right? Anyone letting him play after that is fucking insane.

Personally I'm not particularly hyped. The press and a lot of the usual other suspects are doing the usual "It's coming home" posting, but most of my friends back home think it's less likely than last time (and they didn't really think it would happen then either). As others said watching the press lionize the team only to inevitably turn (while protecting the precious Ngubu's like last time) when we inevitably shit the bed is going to be fun though.

Shambolic that the American posters in this thread are all fat and need fat people shirts even by American inflated sizing.

Germany is going to have another embarrassingly early exit. Frankly by pedigree anything but a semi-final is early, but at least we still made it out of qualifiers unlike some other has-been
