Congratulations to Palmeiras, who just earned their third Libertadores just now. This time, the match was pretty good and well-contested, going into extra time.
Let's see if they actually manage to go to the Club World Cup finals this time. Even then, I don't see them beating Chelsea, though.

And just as expected, due to the distance and the pricing, there was not a single favelado nigga in the stands. And they form the biggest part of Flamengo's fanbase, just so you know.

On the topic of the Club World Cup, what's everyone's thoughts on the expanded format from next year? To me it's certainly the most transparent attempt yet of further globalising football to package and sell to the East Asian and North American markets. All they need to do on top of it is make a Netflix 'up close' documentary to go alongside it and they'll be set.

Not pleased to see support for Stonewall though, wish it was LGB Alliance and the likes

They're almost certainly part of the Stonewall programme still so it'll be part of their agreement they have to promote them. And at this stage I don't think anywhere big is voicing open support for the LGB Alliance.

On topic for the the thread Tottenham and Burnley had a match cancelled due to an excess of weather at Burnley's home grounds

There was this clip of Sean Dyche braving the snow lol

Straight back in for a hot chocolate or warm Vimto after that.

It unfortunately came in so suddenly that they didn't have chance to warn people not to bother travelling either. Snow only probably started seriously falling late morning which for a match to start at 2 meant they only called it off just after 1.

My thoughts are with that one bloke who took a 13 hour trip down to Burnley only for the game to be called off.

it will make the first week feels incredible dull, we needed more european and south american teams, not more others...

England Women beat Latvia by 20 goals to 0. Note how when the men's team beat San Marino by half that there was a lot of criticism (with some validity) but here the narrative is about how incredible they are for breaking records. Just look at the state of this

lmao, remember when the USWNT won Thailand 13-0?

Women's football is horrible and will never be taken serious no matter how badly the bbc and sky sports want it to be.

Ronaldo's mask is currently slipping. We know he's arrogant and mostly cares about himself but c'mon geezer, try to hide it a bit better.

This is just petulance.

Ronaldo's been having a tough time the last few weeks.

Starting on the bench against Chelsea could be a sign of things to come under Rangnick, who apparently isn't a fan of older players with crazy wages. It's hard to imagine Carrick having the balls to drop Ronaldo from the starting 11 in a game like that.

To add to his club woes, Portugal's path to World Cup qualification is pretty rough. They'll have to beat Turkey and then (most likely) Italy for Ronaldo to get his last chance at International silverware.

You'd think that with his prestigious career and supermodel wife, he wouldn't feel the need to follow and interact with simp fan accounts...but he does according to the Daily Mail article:
The post, on the page of a fan account called 'Cristiano Ronaldo - The Legendary' which Ronaldo himself follows,
This is just sad.

Surprised I haven't heard more whining from Rapinoe et al about how the England women aren't getting criticised more for this, they're usually good at making things about themselves.

It can be entertaining in how lopsided it can be, but I haven't seen a truly good close contest in women's football up to now.

I think the powers that be desperately trying to put in on an equal footing to the men's game doesn't help it. They play the Women's FA Cup final at Wembley with less than half capacity (40,000 tickets sold for Sunday). Put that in Stamford Bridge or the Emirates and you'd have a near full house and could well get a better atmosphere for it, which would help it in the long run, but if they did that there'd just be a million Sexist FA articles for not letting our brave girls play at Wembley.

They could even book it at Villa Park and still have it mean something.

Lol, I've watched football for so many years and never seen this type of goal scored, one of the weird ones I guess.

Strangely enough, we never had that much of a problem with our own NT, even if they are also annoying cunts about "muh equality".

Rather than demanding to play in the Maracanã or in the modern stadiums in São Paulo, they found excellent niches in Brasília and Manaus. They don't sell those out either, but they can proudly say those are the "homes" of the Women's NT.

I do remember local club Corinthians did organize a special day for the national women's championship where they not only played at their stadium, they filled the seats of the place. And it is a 50k arena in a densely populated area of São Paulo, mind you. Then again, Corinthians has been trying to be this progressive team for the better part of the last 50 years (their third shirt for this season even had a pattern that said "Respect the Girls") so it was more of a marketing ploy than anything.

Anyway, you'll never catch me watching a women's game unless I were inebriated and wanted some cheap laughs.

Speaking of women's football, Roma just conceded a goal on a corner. As in, the man taking the corner scored the goal, no deflections or anything. Mourinho getting absolutely felted by his former club, down 3-0 in the first half at the Stadio Olimpico. What an embarrassment.

Zaniolo needs to get the fuck out of there while he's still young. He might be the best player in Serie A, I could see him fitting in really nicely with Liverpool or Chelsea. He better at least get the call up and start for the national team in the World Cup qualifiers. If Mancini keeps ignoring him, we deserve to go out.

Edit: Wow, another dominant performance from Bernardo Silva. He has to be the best player in the prem so far this season.

So let's talk the English Championship table for just a moment. Typically around this time of year, the league is bottlenecked between those fighting for promotion along side either Fulham or Norwich and those struggling to avoid the horrors of Sunderland in League 1. However due to the various teams dealing with FFP woes, it might not matter at all.

Derby is pretty much gone and unlikely to recover, sad as it is to say. Another club bled by external investors and bullshit practises like it's stadium sale to active board members. They can maintain a last gasp of life, if they somehow win the next three games back to back. Barnsley, whilst with rich owners... Haven't really spent a penny nor recovered from the loss of manager Valérien Ismaël. They have already had three different managers this season, with a forth likely come this winter window. I am sure Chien Lee is going to take delight in steamrolling League 1 again with the parachute payments. Fucking hate yo-yo clubs.

However it's Peterborough's and Cardiff's fates that may be indirectly saved by the dreaded FFP rules that loom over this finically unstable chase towards Premiership glory. Reading may potentially still have a 9 to 12 point deduction come the end of the season. Taking them from 21 to 12, affectively turning the relegation fight into a one legged race. Alternatively they may start the 2022-23 season with an even larger deduction. Of course, this is only what we currently know now. So many clubs go bust within an instance, we may witness three teams relegated by FFP rather than actual performances.

Really enjoyed the FA Cup action this weekend. These early proper rounds (1 and 2) are great, especially when non-league clubs involved. Always worth watching or attending if you get the chance - it's not a realistic depiction of what non-league is like (these clubs always get inflated attendance because FA Cup versus league team) but they're always great experiences, seeing a town get behind its team to pull off an upset.

As much as Derby's owners deserve this, their most recent deduction happened because the EFL decided to change their minds on how Derby values their players (which they had accepted previously) feels almost malicious
